00:00 Ghana is set to bolster its capacity to deal with the raging terrorist insurgency in West
00:05 Africa.
00:06 More than 100 armoured vehicles were delivered from the European Union.
00:10 It's part of a €616 million package to strengthen defence and security of the four coastal countries
00:16 of the Gulf of Guinea.
00:18 Our West Africa correspondent Justice Baidu reports from Accra.
00:22 Ghana has so far been spared the many terror attacks that have been recorded in some of
00:28 its closest West African neighbours.
00:31 But with instability within the government in countries like Burkina Faso and Mali and
00:37 Niger, many analysts have said that it may well be a matter of when and not if that this
00:44 country comes face to face with the menace.
00:47 It is imperative to understand that no single country can confront the terrorist threat
00:54 on its own.
00:55 The European Union foreign policy chief, Joseph Borrell, indicated at the handover ceremony
01:02 that the EU's investment would also be targeting job creation for many of the country's unemployed
01:10 youth, especially in northern Ghana, where insurgency threats are very likely because
01:17 of the insecurities in Burkina Faso and also the already existing terror threats within
01:24 some of Ghana's northern regions.
01:27 Ghana's military is seen as one of the strongest and most robust in the West African sub-region.
01:34 This new investment by the European Union is being hailed as a further boost in their
01:39 capacity to be able to ward off any attacks.
