Transcript
00:00 Hello I'm Neil from the Evening News and this video is part of our retro series
00:04 where we look back at historic pictures of Edinburgh and its people. In this video
00:10 we'll be looking at 10 pictures from Halloween from the 50s through to 80s.
00:15 Here we see a children's Halloween party at the Greenside Parish Church in
00:20 Edinburgh 1971. At the centre of the picture is Elizabeth Watson duking for
00:26 apples. This picture from October 1988 shows six-year-old Fiona Cooke in a
00:35 spider costume for the geysers parade on the Edinburgh's Royal Mile. Here we see a
00:41 Halloween party at Lauriston Community Centre in October 1970. This picture from
00:48 1967 shows Elizabeth Smale on a trampoline during a Halloween party at
00:54 the Kangaroo Trampoline Centre in Portobello. This child managed to get the
01:00 apple but judging by their expression in this picture from 1968 I'm guessing that
01:05 water was pretty cold. Here we see children trying to catch treacle scones
01:11 at the children's Halloween party at Greenside Parish Church in November 1971.
01:17 In this picture we see girls from the 175th Brownies in Edinburgh duking for
01:24 apples at Halloween in 1968. Here we see youngsters out geysing in Leith in
01:32 October 1955. Margaret Bain MBE ran an elderly care home at Lambs House in
01:40 Leith for 20 years. Here we see geysers join Margaret on Halloween in 1967. This
01:48 picture shows the Tweedie Memorial Boys Club having their Halloween party in
01:54 1967. If you'd like to check out more retro content you can visit our website
