Antonio Arellano's Fatal Crash @ Puebla 2016

Mexican rider Antonio Arellano, mostly known as "El Mandy", 43, died at Puebla hospital on Monday, 29 February 2016 night, from the injuries sustained the previous day in a heavy crash at the Autódromo Miguel E. Abed, in the town of Amozoc, Puebla, Mexico. Arellano participated in the first round of the Campeonato Racing Bike México Nacional de Velocidad, competing in the ProBike 1000 category on a Yamaha entered by the Equipo Furor Products.

The accident took place at approximately 14h30, shortly after the Probike 1000 category race, fifth event of the program, had started. Upon entering the start/finish straight, the riders #97 Mandy Arellano and #134 Juan Manuel Frías collided. The latter was slightly injured in the crash, but Arellano's body did not move at all in the middle of the track, until the ambulance arrived to transfer him to Puebla hospital. He succumbed to his head injuries the following day, whitout regaining consciousness.

After the tragic accident, in sign of solidarity the meeting was suspended. The next round of the series, scheduled to be contested one month later at the Autódromo de León was titled as "Gran Premio Antonio Arellano El Mandy" in his memory. On 17 April another fatal accident marred the 2016 Campeonato Racing Bike México Nacional de Velocidad, when Maribel Ramírez Llort lost control of her bike, crashed and was killed at the Autódromo EcoCentro Querétaro.
