00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today, we lost a whole dimension trying to complete these Mario levels.
00:05 Here we go!
00:07 World 8-2, Super Mario Bros.
00:14 Well, the level starts out simple enough with its Parakoopas and Lakitu,
00:25 which you should absolutely deal with as soon as possible unless you want the level overrun by Spineys.
00:31 It quickly devolves into tricky platforming,
00:34 as well as an unending stream of Bullet Bills and an entire squadron of Parakoopas descending on Mario.
00:40 There's also the constant mix between large and small gaps that will put the player's platforming skills to the test,
00:47 as they need to narrowly land on a platform no bigger than Mario's feet.
00:52 Timing is absolutely key, as the endless streams of Bullet Bills and Parakoopas make even the simplest jump on exercise and frustration,
01:00 as your window of opportunity quickly closes.
01:03 Soda Lake, Super Mario World.
01:12 Super Mario World has no shortage of secret levels for dedicated players to find,
01:18 and oftentimes even just finding them can be a challenge in itself.
01:22 Not only do players need to find the secret exit in another of Super Mario World's trickiest levels,
01:28 but the reward for such a feat is also one of the hardest levels in the entire game.
01:33 And of course, it's a swimming level.
01:36 The level is a gauntlet of enemies with Torpedo Teds and Blurps constantly filling the screen,
01:42 attacking from nearly every angle as Mario simply tries to stay afloat.
01:47 This is a level specially designed for those confident in their abilities, and a grueling challenge for the uninitiated.
01:54 World 6-6, New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
01:58 World 6-6's difficulty in New Super Mario Bros. comes not only from the challenge of the level itself, but also its conceptual design.
02:14 Within a pitch black cave, Mario needs to ride along a raft with the only source of light strapped to the back.
02:21 The trick is, not only does the player need to control Mario around the numerous obstacles
02:27 that are almost impossible to see until they're directly in front of the plumber,
02:31 but the player also needs to control the light source using the same Wii mode.
02:35 Not only is the level an exercise in the player's multitasking capabilities,
02:40 but due to the limited light, many enemies will be able to catch Mario by surprise as the raft doesn't stop until the level ends,
02:48 and can easily leave Mario behind, desperately chasing after it in the encroaching darkness.
02:53 World 7-7, Super Mario Bros. 3.
03:05 For a series aimed at players of all ages and skill levels, the Super Mario series isn't afraid to throw a curveball at players just to keep them humble.
03:14 The level starts off innocently enough, until it inexplicably gives the player a Power Star and wishes them luck,
03:21 as they need to maintain constant speed as they jump, duck, and dodge their way across an endless stream of Piranha Plants and Munchers.
03:28 Players need to stay on the move lest their Star Power runs out, leaving them completely vulnerable.
03:35 This one will undoubtedly take most players a couple runs,
03:38 especially if they're unlucky enough to start the level without some kind of power-up already equipped.
03:44 World 7-7, Castle. New Super Mario Bros.
04:01 Auto-scroll levels can often be the bane of any Mario fan's existence,
04:06 as not only do they not allow the player to complete the level at their own pace,
04:10 but they're also often designed to put the player in as much danger as possible.
04:15 Testing the player's skills up to this point are not only the snake blocks above a bottomless pit,
04:20 but also Amps, Ball and Chains, and Thwomps, all preventing Mario from reaching his end goal.
04:27 Don't think the dangers quit just on the journey to the end either,
04:31 because waiting for Mario is lack of thunder and his endless supply of Spinies as well as the ability to shoot lightning at Mario.
04:39 All castles in the Mario games present challenges for the player's abilities,
04:43 but World 7's Castle could present frustrated players with a broken DS.
04:48 World C-3, Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels.
04:57 Nintendo originally believed that the Lost Levels would prove too difficult for many Western players,
05:02 and in hindsight, maybe they were right.
05:05 Not only are the majority of the levels some of the most grueling and challenging gauntlets in the mustachioed plumber's catalog,
05:12 but some levels even introduce all new elements to contend with, such as Wind in World C-3.
05:19 As if dodging the Parakoopas and Lakitu weren't already difficult enough,
05:24 players will be constantly flinging themselves off-screen using the springs scattered around the infrequent platforms.
05:30 In addition, they'll be dealing with the aforementioned wind blowing Mario around off-screen,
05:36 preventing players from knowing where Mario is until he unexpectedly drops from the sky.
05:41 And just to add another level of frustration, the path to the end is blocked by spinning fire bars.
05:48 It's enough to make Mario's last leap of faith off the end of the level.
05:53 World 8 Airship - Super Mario Bros. 3
05:56 As we already mentioned, auto-scrolling levels will test not only the player's abilities, but also their endurance.
06:09 The Airships in Super Mario Bros. 3 always presented some of the game's greatest challenges,
06:14 but World 8's Airship significantly raises the stakes.
06:18 Although how this is even classified as an Airship at all, with its enormous gaps in its design, is a question unto itself.
06:25 In between the precision platforming, players will also need to deal with Rocky wrenches and an unfair amount of fire traps.
06:33 They will need to be sure to bring any power-up they can simply to reach the end of the ship.
06:38 The speed of the auto-scroll is also faster than any other ship or level within the game,
06:44 and Rocky's wrenches will be following you the majority of the way.
06:48 World 8-7 - New Super Mario Bros.
06:51 Just because his adventure is designed to take on the go, don't think some of the levels aren't also designed to frustrate you.
06:58 World 8-7 remains one of the most challenging modern Mario levels simply because of the abundance of enemies within the level.
07:06 With nearly every Koopa-type from the game crammed into one level,
07:10 players will be contending with Boomerang Bros., Fire Bros., and even the Super Mario Bros.
07:15 Players will be contending with Boomerang Bros., Fire Bros., Para-Koopas, as well as regular Koopa Troopas.
07:21 All while having to use some of the turtle-shelled foes just to reach the rest of the level.
07:26 The flag at the end of the level is more than just the goal. It's a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel.
07:32 The final, final test badge marathon - Super Mario Wonder.
07:39 While Super Mario Wonder has its fair share of challenging levels, none compare to the sheer controller-breaking frustration of the final, final test badge marathon.
07:49 Not only do players need to unlock every Wonder Seed in every single world and Petal Isle,
07:55 but also collect every single Flower Coin and finish every level with Wonderful at the top of the flagpole.
08:02 Even completing all these seemingly impossible tasks will not prepare players for the gauntlet Nintendo has waiting for them.
08:10 With minimal checkpoints, Mario will need to use every single badge in the game just to complete the levels.
08:17 Players will need not only precision platforming skills, but also perfect timing,
08:23 with the levels and mechanics constantly switching and keeping players on the edge of their seat, never knowing what to expect next.
08:31 By the end of this marathon, players will be left wondering why they even play games at all.
08:36 The Impossible Pack - New Super Mario Bros. 2.
08:46 We're cheating a bit with this one, but given the level of difficulty in every level of this DLC pack,
08:52 it would be almost impossible to choose one over another.
08:55 Although there are three levels in the entire pack, their difficulty could potentially keep you invested the same amount of time as the base game.
09:04 Combining the most challenging aspects of Mario's previous adventures,
09:08 players will need to traverse everything from difficult swimming sections, precision platforming,
09:13 and a non-stop barrage of enemies in their way.
09:16 And that's only the first level.
09:18 The remaining are even more daunting with rivers of lava peppered with moving platforms,
09:24 spinning blades and bouncing note blocks, as well as a rising lake of poison and a stringent time limit
09:30 that will leave even the most seasoned Mario veterans with sweaty and shaky palms by level's end.
