  • last year

00:00 Morning, it's great to be here at Bletchley Park, a place that obviously has a hugely
00:03 significant role in our country's history. It was where the famous British computer scientist
00:08 Alan Turing broke the Nazis' Enigma code and helped Britain turn the tide in the war.
00:13 But today it's playing host to another World First, the world's first summit focusing on
00:18 AI safety, bringing together business and political leaders from around the globe. AI
00:23 has the potential to transform our lives in every aspect, from healthcare to education
00:28 and our economy. Thanks to the actions we've taken this week, Britain is well placed to
00:33 be at the forefront of that change. Well, the people developing this technology themselves
00:37 have raised the risk that AI may pose, and it's important to not be alarmist about this.
00:41 There's debate about this topic. People in the industry themselves don't agree and we
00:45 can't be certain. But there is a case to believe that it may pose risks on a scale like pandemics
00:51 and nuclear war. And that's why, as leaders, we have a responsibility to act, to take the
00:56 steps to protect people, and that's exactly what we're doing. We've created an AI safety
01:01 institute here in the UK, investing more in safety research than any other country, and
01:05 that will ensure that we have the capabilities and tools we need to keep people safe. And
01:09 over the course of this summit, we've been working with other countries and the companies
01:13 themselves to ensure that we can put those principles into practice. Thank you very much.
01:17 Thanks, guys.
01:18 Thank you for having us. What a great location. Honestly, the feedback I got yesterday was
01:34 incredible. My phone was buzzing with people just saying everything was fantastic. Lots
01:41 of conversations. It's been brilliant. Enjoying it?
