00:00 the distinguished representative of the Philippines to take the floor.
00:07 Mr. President, the Philippines aligns itself with the
00:36 United States.
00:37 I am pleased to be here today to share with you the statements delivered by Singapore
00:38 on behalf of ASEAN, by Azerbaijan on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement, and by Uganda
00:46 on behalf of the Group of 77 and China.
00:50 For the 31st year, we are witnessing today clear expressions of solidarity with the Cuban
00:57 people through an overwhelming support for the resolution on the necessity of ending
01:04 the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against
01:10 Cuba.
01:12 The report of the Secretary General clearly shows that the international community once
01:18 again supports strongly an end to the six-decade embargo and unjustified sanctions policy.
01:29 It is also the 31st consecutive year that the Philippines will support the resolution.
01:37 Mr. President, the blockade presents a main obstacle for Cuba's socioeconomic development,
01:44 as observed by various UN agencies in the Secretary General's report.
01:51 It also poses a serious challenge for Cuba's implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
01:58 Development.
02:01 It violates international law.
02:04 It is contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.
02:12 With cultural and economic ties dating as far back as the Manila-Acapulco-Gallon trade
02:19 in the early 16th century, Cuba and its people will always have the support of the Philippines.
02:27 The United States should lift the embargo against Cuba unconditionally once and for
02:32 all.
02:33 Thank you, Mr. President.
