00:02 - Well, honestly, when they told me
00:10 I was speaking to Barstool and they said Dave,
00:13 I was thinking, you know, Honcho, Big Dave.
00:17 - Dave Two is what we call him here.
00:19 I'm Dave One at Barstool Sports.
00:20 He's Dave Two.
00:22 - That's not Dave Two.
00:23 - Yeah, that's Dave Two.
00:25 I'm Dave One.
00:27 - Chicago, city of big shoulders,
00:30 birthplace of the baby back rip,
00:32 epicenter of sports mediocrity,
00:34 and primary residence of a quaint little urban college
00:37 that resides on the shores of Lake Michigan,
00:39 Loyola University.
00:40 Loyola University has its handprints all over Chicago
00:45 with a history of athletic and academic tradition
00:48 dating back decades.
00:50 But all this history leads us to one question.
00:52 What is a Rambler?
00:55 And who's a better ambassador of Loyola University
00:58 to find out what a Rambler exactly is
01:01 than Sister Jean herself?
01:03 Sister Jean, can you tell me what your estimation
01:05 of a Rambler is?
01:06 - Oh, we're called Ramblers because in the early days
01:10 when we had a football team,
01:13 they were called Loyolans and that name just didn't stick.
01:17 So we were the only ones going from one school to another
01:20 to play football.
01:22 Everybody called us rambling around,
01:24 so we took the name Ramblers.
01:26 - Loyola basketball has a lot of history behind it.
01:29 Most recently a Final Four run in 2017,
01:32 dating back to a championship. - Excuse me, 18.
01:35 - 2017, 18, that's right.
01:36 Dating back to when they won a championship
01:38 in the early 60s.
01:39 - And we have a little slogan, "Worship, work, and win."
01:43 Now that doesn't mean you win every game,
01:45 but it means you win something from the game
01:48 that you can do for the next game.
01:49 - Three W's, worship, work, and win.
01:53 And while I'd be remiss not to take Sister Jean's word
01:56 as gospel myself, I still had to ask the players
01:59 what a Rambler is.
02:01 - You're joined by Phillip Alston of Ohio,
02:03 joined by local product Tom Welch of Chicago,
02:06 grad transfer, first year Rambler, Greg Dolan.
02:09 And you gotta, I just gotta know this.
02:11 What's a Rambler?
02:12 - I was thinking the same thing like three weeks ago.
02:15 - Oh, that was something I had to figure out myself.
02:17 - And we looked it up and it's supposedly a Wolf now.
02:20 - 'Cause our mascot's a wolf,
02:23 I'm pretty sure a Rambler's not a wolf.
02:25 - Nope.
02:26 - But it used to be a homeless person,
02:27 is what the internet says.
02:29 - I don't even know if I wanna even say it,
02:30 but I looked it up, I think a Rambler's like--
02:33 - A homeless person.
02:34 - Yeah, it is.
02:36 So you're just a bunch of homeless people running around.
02:38 - I guess, yeah.
02:39 - I don't like to mess with homeless people,
02:40 so it's kind of intimidating you got that on your side now.
02:43 - Yeah, I don't know why they think that.
02:45 - You're the loyal homeless people.
02:48 - I guess so, yeah.
02:50 - Notice right off the bat you didn't correct me.
02:52 You are not from Seacliff, you're from Naperville,
02:54 and you do that because--
02:57 - Just trying to be light, you know?
02:58 - Yeah, sounds cooler.
03:00 I gotta ask you a question,
03:01 do you think you're better than me?
03:02 - At basketball?
03:03 - Just at everything.
03:04 - Definitely at basketball,
03:05 and from what I've seen, baseball, for sure.
03:07 - Who would win in a fist fight between those two?
03:11 - Oh, Greg and Tom?
03:12 - Yeah.
03:12 - And you gotta remember, Tom's from Naperville,
03:15 yeah, and Greg's another, he's an Ivy League guy.
03:17 - Ivy League, yeah.
03:18 - They're both pretty much--
03:19 - They don't fight, yeah.
03:20 - No, they don't fight.
03:21 I know the line that's coming, you can say it.
03:23 - I don't know if it's a specific line,
03:25 but you went to an Ivy League school.
03:27 - Yeah.
03:28 - One-on-one interview, I wanted to know
03:29 if you thought you were better than me.
03:30 - Do you think I'm better than you?
03:31 - Oh, absolutely.
03:33 I'm worthless.
03:33 - You just answered it, yeah.
03:35 - Who are we working with at NIL West?
03:37 - I don't know what to say.
03:38 - I'll start at a million dollars and just tell me when.
03:41 A million.
03:41 - That's a million?
03:42 - 900,000.
03:44 800,000.
03:45 - That's still, but I can't say.
03:46 - 700,000.
03:47 - I'm not saying.
03:48 - You're just, nod your head.
03:49 But you are from Buffalo as well.
03:51 - Yeah.
03:51 - So you do got some blue collar in you.
03:53 - Bill's Mafia all the way.
03:54 - Speaking of Bill's Mafia,
03:55 we brought a present for you today.
03:56 - Really?
03:57 - We did, we did.
03:58 Danny, if you could.
04:01 Now, I got this little object here.
04:04 It's gonna be right behind your left shoulder.
04:07 I did hear this,
04:08 so I heard you don't even like folding tables.
04:10 - Why would that be?
04:11 - Sister Jean just told me
04:12 that you don't even really care about them all that much.
04:15 - She's probably right then.
04:17 - She is?
04:18 - I do love folding tables,
04:20 but if Sister Jean said it,
04:22 that's her word.
04:23 I can't go against that.
04:24 - That's literal gospel.
04:25 I asked Sister Jean
04:26 if you guys are gonna be better this year.
04:28 - Yeah.
04:28 - And she looked at me and she scoffed,
04:30 and she goes, "Ha, they better."
04:32 Like literally.
04:33 - Actually should.
04:34 - And then I say, "Better,"
04:36 knowing that they're gonna laugh when I say that,
04:39 'cause we better do better.
04:40 - How good are you at 22s?
04:42 - I'm actually, I'm the fastest.
04:44 - Sister Jean was actually telling me you were the fastest.
04:46 What is it like being second in command to her though?
04:49 - I mean, Sister Jean,
04:50 she's like the most famous person
04:52 probably in Chicago right now.
04:54 - One of them.
04:55 - Honestly, I would say so.
04:56 - Next to you though.
04:58 - Well, honestly, when they told me
04:59 I was speaking to Barstool,
05:02 and they said, "Dave,"
05:03 I was thinking, you know, "Honcho,"
05:05 big Dave.
05:06 - Dave Two is what we call him here.
05:08 I'm Dave One at Barstool Sports.
05:10 He's Dave Two.
05:11 - That's not Dave Two.
05:12 - What are your goals personal
05:14 and as a team this year?
05:16 - Don't really have many personal,
05:18 kind of a team guy,
05:19 but wanna win a championship,
05:20 wanna cut a net, get another ring.
05:22 Ultimately just have a better year than we did last year
05:24 'cause last year sucked.
05:25 - How many points are you gonna put up this year per game?
05:28 I want a quantified number,
05:30 and I know you know what that word means
05:32 because you went to an Ivy League school.
05:33 - I think this is gonna be a first dub of many this year.
05:36 Just to be able to show the fans
05:38 how different this team is this year,
05:40 and I'm just super excited for sure.
05:42 - Playing FAU November 8th,
05:45 Wintrust Arena hosted by Barstool.
05:47 Top 10 FAU, so gonna be an exciting game,
05:49 and we're looking forward to it.
05:51 - Did I leave Rogers Park with a full understanding
05:53 of what a Rambler is?
05:55 Not exactly, but I still learned a lot.
05:58 I learned that Loyola University
05:59 is a wonderfully scenic institution
06:01 with a bustling student population
06:03 and a men's basketball program
06:05 that strives to be the best collegiate program in Illinois.
06:08 And that Sister Jean is of course a force to be reckoned with.
06:10 That's what a Rambler is in the end.
06:13 Will they head back to the dance?
06:15 Well according to Sister Jean, they better.
06:18 (whooshing)
06:20 (whooshing)
