00:00 What's up everybody? John Hoover, all Sooners, along with Ryan Chapman, Randall Sweet.
00:05 Wow. 59-20. Oklahoma handles their business. What a bounce back game for the Sooners tonight.
00:11 We're at Owen Field. And post game, Brent Venables was in a good mood. Jeff Levy was in a good mood.
00:18 Dylan Gabriel was very humble, but still in a good mood. I think the whole team was after taking down West Virginia tonight.
00:25 Final Saturday home game of the season for the Sooners. 59-20, a complete victory.
00:31 Brent Venables said he thought it was probably the most complete four quarters they've put together all year.
00:36 Yeah, and we'll talk about, here in a second, Dylan Gabriel's big day, Drake Stoops' big day,
00:41 but the biggest thing for this offense was talking about turnovers and penalties,
00:46 the procedural penalties especially, had killed Oklahoma against Kansas-Doklama State.
00:51 Guys, it was until about two minutes, I think there was like 151 on the clock in the first half,
00:55 Walter Rouse got hit with a false start. Other than that, it was a really, really, really clean performance from Oklahoma.
01:01 Only five penalties for 60 yards. Two of those came after McKay Metire was just taken up for Drake Stoops
01:07 and his teammate in the end zone behind us. Had a couple of pass deference calls that hit against Oklahoma
01:12 that the crowd, and I bet the sideline, didn't like too much. But other than that,
01:17 it was not anything that we saw from the last two weeks in this offense. It was smooth sailing.
01:22 They were able to take big plays and then build on those and keep the momentum rolling.
01:27 It was really, it looked like a Rolls Royce rolling up and down Owen Field tonight
01:31 as Oklahoma just did everything they wanted with West Virginia defense.
01:35 Brent's declaration, too, that it was the best four quarters by both the offense and the defense, I think is spot on.
01:40 We'll see what Pro Football Focus says. The total will be tomorrow, but I didn't see a lot of missed tackles out there
01:45 against one of the best running offenses in the country. Sixth in the nation, West Virginia came in tonight
01:51 in rushing offense, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Oklahoma shut them down in the first half,
01:55 rendered their running game ineffective. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma offense had arguably its best night of the season,
02:02 including a record-setting performance by the quarterback. Dylan Gabriel, eight total touchdowns tonight.
02:09 Five throwing, three rushing. I told him, I said, "Dylan, we had to go to the record books and look it up.
02:14 There's some guys out here in the parking lot that have statues erected to them. You surpassed them."
02:19 Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield holding the previous record at seven.
02:22 Yeah, I mean, Dylan Gabriel was outstanding tonight. I mean, he was hitting his receivers.
02:27 Again, Jeff Levy, it seemed like, was more aggressive, pushing the ball downfield.
02:31 I mean, you saw Dylan Gabriel hit Jaden Gibson deep down the field, Nick Anderson.
02:35 Obviously, Drake Stoops had 150 yards, three touchdowns. Dylan Gabriel himself, 420 yards,
02:42 five touchdowns through the air, 50 yards, three more scores on the ground.
02:46 I mean, those two had a great connection all day.
02:48 Drake Stoops hanging onto the ball in this end zone right behind me, even after getting rocked, was really impressive.
02:53 I mean, going to the other end zone, he broke multiple tackles, fought his way for a touchdown.
02:59 I mean, over the past three weeks, Drake Stoops has looked like one of the best receivers on the team,
03:03 if not the best receiver on the team. I mean, the past two weeks, he's clearly been the best receiver on the team.
03:08 And Dylan Gabriel tonight might have put his name back in the Heisman conversation.
03:13 We'll see about that. But a very, very strong performance again.
03:17 Almost 500 total yards, eight touchdowns, one of the best OU performances from a quarterback we'll probably ever see.
03:25 Yeah, Dylan Gabriel was on fire. Drake Stoops, as Randall mentioned, was on fire.
03:29 164 yards receiving for him, including that 60-yard touchdown where he was zigzagging back and forth in the final.
03:35 Five yards just bowled through into the end zone. What a performance by him.
03:39 Gavin Sawchuck. OK, so Drake Stoops, one more, set his career high per yardage for the second week in a row.
03:45 Gavin Sawchuck also set his career high for the second week in a row.
03:50 I mean, 133 yards, 135 yards for Gavin Sawchuck tonight.
03:55 I asked the guys if they're getting hot, they're getting the ball, they're just now in week nine, week 10,
04:02 identifying their playmakers, or if that's just the way the game unfolds.
04:06 Guys said to a man, they said, "No, you're identifying playmakers, guys are getting hot, you feed the hot hand."
04:13 So that has happened to the Oklahoma offensive and passing game and running game.
04:18 Now defensively, let's jump back to defense. They got their inspirational leader back, Danny Stutzman.
04:22 Makes a tackle for a loss on, I think, the second play of the game, third play of the game, something like that.
04:26 You knew this was going to be a different night.
04:28 Yeah, there's no need to identify the playmakers or anything defensively.
04:32 It starts and ends with Danny Stutzman, his first game back since, basically, it looked like rolling his ankle
04:39 was a lower body injury against Kansas there. Closed out the first half, and what does he do, boys?
04:44 He leads the team with eight total tackles. They slid Danny Stutzman over, actually, next to Kip Lewis.
04:50 That way they get those two on the field at the same time.
04:52 Brent Vindables, after the game, praised Danny Stutzman, saying, "Hey, he's one of the few guys out there
04:56 that can play multiple positions at a high level."
04:58 And Danny, to his credit, when he was asked about that, he was like, "Yeah, I screwed up a lot of stuff.
05:03 It took me two or three drives to really get going."
05:05 But once they did, this defense was cooking, and they had yet another goal line stand here in the North End Zone.
05:12 You had the Texas game where they had that goal line stand.
05:17 You almost had the goal line stand against UCF until the taunting pilly that gave them a fresh set of downs.
05:22 The taunting today, Oklahoma got it done three straight stops after UCF started the three-yard line
05:27 until UCF went to that shovel pass, and then it was just a horde of Sooners there to push the West Virginia attack back tonight.
05:36 Another goal line stand, you had Kip Lewis tied second on the team, seven tackles, Robert Spears Jennings, and Billy Bowman.
05:41 Those are the other two guys at seven tackles.
05:43 Great, great performance, got some turnovers as well against a really, really high-powered West Virginia rushing attack.
05:48 Yeah, two interceptions for the defense tonight, one by Reggie Pearson on a batted ball by Billy Bowman,
05:53 one at the end of the game by Jacoby Johnson.
05:56 Just an amazing young freshman that's getting his feet wet, getting in there, getting some snaps.
06:02 One of the guys that's not getting in there and getting his feet wet and getting some snaps is Jackson Arnold, the backup quarterback.
06:08 Davis Bevel came in to finish the game today.
06:10 Brent Venables basically said, "Yes, that is true. That is all happening.
06:14 We are trying at this point to redshirt Jackson Arnold.
06:16 You never know if you're going to need him.
06:18 If they need him the last two or three or four games, then they'll try to roll him out as needed.
06:23 But as of right now, it's clear tonight, obviously, the plan was to redshirt Jackson Arnold.
06:29 Another guy that didn't play tonight, you know what, let's back up a step.
06:32 I skipped right over your last segment, and I was going to say this about Drake Stoops.
06:38 Three touchdowns tonight, obviously another career high.
06:41 Someone else we sold short, 119 yards for Nick Anderson on four catches.
06:45 He was big time.
06:47 Austin Stogner had by far his best game of the year in a couple of years, probably three years.
06:53 Four catches for 69 yards for him, popped a 38-yard catch and run at some point.
06:57 The march to 40 continues from this point.
06:59 That's right. We're almost there.
07:01 But when you talk about Drake Stoops, he gets popped in the helmet down here.
07:06 They checked it for targeting. It wasn't targeting.
07:08 We looked at the replay as well. It wasn't targeting.
07:10 It was not a clean hit, but it wasn't targeting.
07:13 But it kicked off a kerfuffle, a scuffle in the end zone.
07:17 Teams pushing and shoving, and the quarterback's in the middle of it.
07:20 I loved every second of it.
07:22 Down in that end zone, he bowled over a defender to get the last five yards
07:26 and then spiked the football and drew a 15-yard penalty, which you can't spike the football.
07:32 I mean, you could throw it down, apparently, but you can't spike it.
07:35 Randall was on the field for all this.
07:37 He was taking all this in.
07:39 There were fights, there were 15-yard penalties, and there were chants of "SEC."
07:45 Tell us about the atmosphere on the field, man. It's crazy.
07:48 Obviously, the Oklahoma fans were not happy.
07:51 There was a pass interference call.
07:53 I believe it was on Woody Washington down here going towards this end zone behind me.
07:58 That kind of started the frustration for Sooners fans.
08:01 When Drake Stoops scores a touchdown, spikes the ball, and gets called for that 15-yard penalty,
08:05 as the OU extra point team comes on, you can hear
08:08 instead of boos for the officials, this week it was a chant of "SEC,"
08:12 kind of trying to give the Big 12 a piece of OU fans' mind,
08:17 letting the conference know that the fans are not happy with the way that the games have been officiated the past few weeks.
08:24 You heard more SEC chants after McCade Mottoyer is ejected again in the end zone behind me,
08:29 kind of starting it with Anthony Wilson, a defensive back from West Virginia.
08:34 Getting retribution on that hit.
08:36 Anthony Wilson is the guy who laid the boom on Drake Stoops and then stood over him in the end zone.
08:43 Drake Stoops, after the game, said, "After getting scored on, standing over a guy, not how I would have handled that."
08:49 Drake Stoops, ever the diplomat, but got his shot in there as well.
08:53 He did. On the next play, McCade Mottoyer goes specifically after Anthony Wilson.
08:58 On the PAT.
08:59 On the PAT. It was interesting because, again, standing right there next to it,
09:03 McCade Mottoyer definitely went after him, there's no doubt about that.
09:06 But Wilson does hit him in the face. He puts his hand right on his face mask after the whistle blows.
09:11 A little bit of another tiff there.
09:13 When Mottoyer gets ejected, Wilson, I think, got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
09:18 The Sooner fans, again, started to rain down the SEC chants as the team goes back onto the field to kick off.
09:26 I apologize, not to kick the extra point.
09:28 Again, OU fans, they wanted the officials on the field, they wanted the Big 12 Conference in general to know
09:34 they're not happy with the way that this game, last week, the Kansas game, have been officiated.
09:38 Again, the call on Drake Stoops, the spiking call, probably the correct call.
09:43 Weirdly, it was the best call they made.
09:45 Not probably the right call. It was definitely an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
09:49 You can argue the fight in this end zone, those kind of things happen in football.
09:53 But again, OU fans not happy tonight.
09:55 Brent Venables was not happy either. He had to go out onto the field.
09:59 He went past the numbers this time, grabbed some of his guys, turned them around, said some choice words in their face.
10:04 I heard them.
10:05 And redirected. We got that straight out of Randall's mouth.
10:07 He was standing there with the camera. Hopefully we got that on the highlights.
10:10 You'll have to watch the highlights to see.
10:12 Check the highlights and see.
10:14 That's it for tonight. We're going to get out of here.
10:16 We've got a late podcast coming up. It's a 6 o'clock kick.
10:19 It was a night game. Lots of LEDs, lots of flashing lights, lots of music, lots of sound,
10:23 and lots of points for the Oklahoma offense.
10:26 Coming up next, BYU. Seriously? Kick time is?
10:30 11 a.m.
10:31 Unbelievable. 11 a.m. in Provo. That's 10 o'clock for those poor folks in the Mountain Time Zone.
10:36 We'll be there. The three of us will be in Provo in Salt Lake City half of next week.
10:41 At least the back half. We'll be here Monday for player interviews, Tuesday for Brent Venables interviews.
10:46 And stick it with us, of course, throughout the week at allsooners.com.
10:50 For Ryan Chapman, for Randall Sweet, I'm John Hoover. See you guys.
