00:00 Hey everybody and welcome back to the Killer Frog postgame show here at A.M. & G. Carter Stadium after Texas took care of business against the TCU Horned Frogs by a score of 29-26.
00:10 It was a much closer game than a lot of people could have imagined. Carson, what were your general thoughts on the game? I know it was kind of a game of two halves per se, but just what were your general thoughts?
00:20 I mean, general thoughts were going into this game, TCU wasn't supposed to be competitive for the most part. I mean, it's an offense that has struggled so much and you're going up against a Texas defensive line that has been absolutely dominant in almost every game they've played.
00:37 I mean, the odds were stacked against TCU no matter how you looked at it this game.
00:43 Yeah, and again, with TCU coming into this game, not a lot of people thought that they were going to pull out a game like they did today. Obviously, their defense stepped up in a big way. They did give up 29 points in total, but only 3 in the second half.
00:55 What did you think of the defense's overall play? I mean, that was a pretty big stout performance in that second half.
01:00 I mean, they made an adjustment, obviously, to play with more energy, I think. I don't think it was necessarily anything technical or making an adjustment in their scheme or anything like that. I think it was just kind of figuring out Texas' offense.
01:15 Because when you've got skilled position players like Texas has, there are going to be explosive plays no matter what. And I think that TCU's tackling was just better in the second half than it was in the first.
01:27 I mean, you can point at a few big plays given up, but other than that, this defense was really good tonight.
01:34 Now, I know that you want to talk about this offense, especially Savion Williams, who had a career high in catches and receiving yards. He had 11 receptions for 164 receiving yards.
01:44 Big night from Savion Williams. Also, some good showing from J.P. Richardson, Jared Wiley, and again, that second half, Josh Hoover really showed up and gave the team something that it really needed.
01:53 What did you think about the offensive performance tonight?
01:56 I mean, I think when you have skilled guys like Jared Wiley and Savion Williams, you have to get them involved early.
02:05 I think in the games where TCU gets behind, I think that we've tried to spread the ball around too much. And you saw that Savion might have dropped a pass in the first quarter, and Kendall Bryles or Josh Hoover, whoever decided that play, I guess, just went right back to him.
02:24 And I think when you've got a guy like Jared Wiley and Savion Williams, you have to find a way to utilize them early in the first half, just to get them going throughout the game.
02:34 Now, we were both there in the press conference after the game. Sonny Dykes was there, Savion Williams, Abe Kamara, a few other guys as well.
02:42 What did you hear from Sonny Dykes about his assessment of this game? Obviously, it's a loss. It's not what you want. But again, the team played pretty dang well.
02:50 Yeah, I mean, he had nothing but good things to say about this team. I mean, again, you're going up against a top 10 team in Texas.
02:58 I mean, you can't expect to go out there and be perfect in every aspect of the game. What kind of stood out to me in that interview was how healthy his mindset was going into next week's game.
03:11 He obviously touched on the Baylor game. He was like, "I am fired up for this game because I want to see how our team responds to a tough loss like this."
03:21 And also, his loss mentality was very good as well. He mentioned that when you win games like this, it's because of the players. When you lose, it's because of the coaches.
03:33 And I think that's a mindset that can not only solidify your job for the long term, but can also give your players a massive boost in confidence.
03:46 Now, looking ahead, TCU's got Baylor next week on Saturday, and then they'll travel to Oklahoma.
03:52 Look, their bowl eligibility is kind of coming down to the wire here. They will need to win their next two games to become bowl eligible.
04:01 What are you hoping for, firstly, from this game against Baylor this next weekend?
04:06 And what do you kind of hope this team brings into these final two games as we get to this end of the season?
04:11 I mean, against a team like Baylor, you just want to see four quarters from Josh Hoover.
04:16 I mean, I hate to break it down in simple terms, but just the turnovers and him being able to go to the guys that he trusts on the outside and on the inside with Jared Wiley.
04:31 Yeah, well, it was a tough game tonight. Obviously, TCU coming out with the loss. 29-26, Texas took this one.
04:38 It's the last Texas-TCU matchup we'll see for quite a while, perhaps, as Texas will be going to the SEC very shortly.
04:45 But for Carson Wersall, my name's Ian DePiche, and thank you so much for tuning in to the Killer Frogs postgame show, and we will see you guys next time.
04:52 next time.
