00:00 Suella Braverman has been sacked as Home Secretary for the second time in little over a year.
00:06 Rishi Sunak removed Mrs Braverman from her post on Monday morning, following her unauthorised
00:12 article in the Times, criticising the way pro-Palestinian protests have been policed.
00:18 Her rhetoric and comments accusing police of playing favourites are being widely blamed
00:23 for stoking confrontations between far-right groups and the police on Armistice Day.
00:29 It was her outspokenness on issues such as immigration and law and order that saw Liz
00:33 Truss appoint her as Home Secretary in September 2022.
00:38 We cannot allow a foreign court to undermine the sovereignty of our borders.
00:46 She lasted only six weeks at the Home Office, dismissed for leaking confidential Cabinet
00:51 papers.
00:52 The next day, Liz Truss announced her resignation as Prime Minister, and Mrs Braverman returned
00:58 as Home Secretary the following week in Rishi Sunak's government - her reward for supporting
01:03 his leadership campaign.
01:05 Many questioned the wisdom of reappointing someone who had so recently broken the ministerial
01:10 code, although Mr Sunak would find it was the Home Secretary's words, rather than her
01:15 actions, that he would have to distance himself from.
01:19 Her language on the topic of inward migration to the UK was often seen as dehumanising.
01:24 The British people deserve to know which party is serious about stopping the invasion on
01:32 our southern coast.
01:34 The wind of change that carried my own parents across the globe in the 20th century was a
01:42 mere gust compared to the hurricane that is coming.
01:48 Her headline-making comments became more frequent in the last few weeks of her tenure at the
01:53 Home Office, telling an American think tank that multiculturalism in the UK has failed,
01:59 describing rough sleeping as a lifestyle choice and threatening to fine charities who give
02:04 tents to those living on the streets.
02:07 And this description of pro-Palestinian protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
02:11 To my mind, there's only one way to describe those marches.
02:14 They are hate marches.
02:16 Whether in or out of his cabinet, Suella Braverman is likely to remain a thorn in the side of
02:22 Rishi Sunak.
02:23 Her tough stance on immigration and willingness to engage in culture wars make her a leadership
02:28 challenger for the Tory right.
02:30 As she said herself after being sacked this morning, "I will have more to say in due course."
