00:00 >> You hear Mark say you set some records, what does that mean to you?
00:05 >> It means a lot.
00:07 Tonight or today is the type of game that I've known for
00:11 five years that I can have the capability of having.
00:16 And it's just, I can't thank Coach Morales and Josh and
00:21 everybody's been part of it enough for allowing me to display that tonight.
00:29 >> When's the last time you ran 81 yards for a touchdown?
00:32 >> Never.
00:32 >> [LAUGH] >> On both those runs,
00:35 I mean both those touchdowns you were wide open.
00:36 What happened to enable that to happen like you did?
00:39 >> Yeah, the first one, I mean, I just ran a seam and I don't know how you can cut
00:44 someone who's six foot seven wide open like that down the seam, but they did.
00:50 And Josh did a great job seeing it, looking out for middle safety.
00:53 And that's just kind of what happened on that one.
00:57 The second one, any time with a third and long or anything like that,
01:03 we've had this play for a couple weeks.
01:07 We kind of run everybody on verticals to clear it out.
01:10 And I just kind of sit in there and wait for
01:13 the linebacker that's guarding me to trigger a blitz.
01:16 And the second he does, I go and I just was wide open.
01:21 >> How important was it for you guys to get this win to have something?
01:24 Next week going in, knowing you can play for goal.
01:26 >> Yeah, that's a big thing for us.
01:29 Nobody in this locker room is ready for the season to be over.
01:34 Nobody wants it to end on Friday.
01:36 And having this momentum going into a big week to fight for
01:42 bowl eligibility, I mean, that's a really big deal for us.
01:48 >> Can you talk about the growth that you've seen out of Josh these last
01:52 couple weeks?
01:52 >> Yeah, he got thrown in at a tough time.
01:59 BYU, he played great.
02:02 And then you go play three or four just really good defenses.
02:07 And then you end that stretch playing UT,
02:09 who arguably has one of the best defenses in the country.
02:13 I mean, for him just to be resilient and stay confident in himself and
02:18 to just trust the process of everything.
02:20 That shows to who he is and as a person, as a leader for us.
02:26 And that just shows the resiliency that he has.
02:31 >> Talking about the offense to get off to a quicker start this week.
02:36 >> Yeah, that's a big deal for us.
02:39 We say all the time, we have to start fast and
02:41 kind of get whoever we're playing kind of on their toes or on their heels a little
02:45 bit.
02:46 We did that tonight.
02:48 I don't think we did it great.
02:50 We go 0-2 in the red zone to start the game off or whatever.
02:53 But nobody's played the perfect game ever.
02:57 And just to see us as an offense just bounce back and
03:02 have our defenses back, it was pretty close going into halftime.
03:06 And offense knew what it was gonna take to kind of put the game away and
03:12 we did it.
03:13 >> You mentioned Josh Hoover's leadership.
03:16 What has he meant to you in this offense as a leader and
03:18 what's his leadership style?
03:20 >> He's trying to get a little bit more vocal.
03:23 It's hard for a retro freshman or
03:28 any younger guy to get in front of a lot of people and talk.
03:32 He'll get up here and this whole room is full of players and coaches and
03:36 staff members and he'll get up and say his piece.
03:38 And he's been doing a really good job at it.
03:41 Yeah, I would say that his best leadership quality is just
03:44 the actions that he does.
03:46 He could easily went after the K-State game and
03:52 stop doing his weekly routine and just kind of been like, you know what?
03:55 It is what it is at this point.
03:57 Let's just try the rest of the season out.
03:59 And he didn't do that.
04:00 He does the same thing every week.
04:02 The receivers and scope groups get the same text every week that he's up here
04:06 watching film.
04:07 And if we have any questions, we're gonna come up here.
04:09 He's up here to talk to us about it.
04:11 And I think that's a really big deal.
04:15 The payout hasn't been what you would like it to be for him this year, but
04:20 for the future and to finish this year out, I mean,
04:23 it's gonna pay off for him and a long run.
04:26 >> Was this game any more special for you being a senior?
04:29 >> Yeah, it's pretty emotional and that's what I told the offense today.
04:34 I told them that we need to go out there and play with a lot of emotion.
04:39 I don't think that playing with emotion is bad necessarily.
04:43 I think that whenever you make big plays and you start building up
04:49 all that feeling that you have inside and then you just finally let it go,
04:55 then that's whenever you're playing your best brand of football.
04:59 And our guys did that tonight.
05:02 I can't thank them enough for just sending us seniors outright.
05:07 Like I said, obviously everybody knows that this year is just
05:13 kind of been rough on everybody to a certain extent.
05:16 But to be able to end it in the car like that and get the win like that,
05:20 it was a big deal for me.
05:22 >> Can you talk a little bit about this senior class?
05:24 Obviously a lot of guys like you transferred in, but
05:26 there are guys that have been here four and five years now.
05:29 How tight is this class and what have they meant to you?
05:32 >> Yeah, this is as tight knit of a group as I've been around.
05:36 We kind of be used last year as a stepping stone.
05:41 I wasn't close with a lot of the guys that I'm close with this year, last year.
05:47 And this year has been really just,
05:51 I think a big deal just in the team bonding type of deal for us.
05:57 We hang out outside of the facilities, we play video games together.
06:04 We do a whole bunch of stuff together that you don't really get
06:09 that type of bond or friendship or whatever everywhere else.
06:15 And it's been really special to just be a part of here.
06:19 >> The last five quarters you guys have scored 62 points as an offense.
06:23 You feel like you're clicking right now?
06:25 >> Yeah, we definitely are.
06:27 Like I said earlier, no one's played the perfect game.
06:29 We obviously have some stuff to clean up.
06:31 But I think that people discredit how hard it is to have a new coordinator and
06:39 then another new quarterback and then have some receivers go down and
06:43 have to rotate.
06:44 It's a lot going on for the offense.
06:47 And sometimes that takes time to just kind of figure out the pieces of the puzzle and
06:53 then get rolling.
06:54 And this year just it's taken a little bit.
06:57 But I feel like with the last six quarters that we've played,
07:00 we've kind of started to hit our stride.
07:02 And I mean, if you ask me, it's kind of perfect timing for bowl season and
07:07 however you wanna finish out the year.
07:09 >> Talked about starting the game off 0-2 in the red zone.
07:14 To speak to the character of this team,
07:15 did that let in a negative only affect you going forward?
07:18 >> Yeah, it does.
07:20 And to be honest with you, offense players, we get tired of hearing about
07:25 how bad we've been in the red zone this year.
07:27 So if anything, I think it just kind of lit a fire under us.
07:31 And we're all very mature, we're a mature group.
07:35 And we know if it's not good enough, then you just have to do better.
07:39 Let's take it for what it is.
07:40 And Hoover got us all up and he was just saying, I mean,
07:45 we just have to finish, that's all it is.
07:46 We just have to finish, find a way to finish the drives and
07:49 find a way to put the ball in the end zone.
07:50 So we started doing that and then we kind of got a roll.
