TCU cornerback Josh Newton speaks on how the TCU defense plans to stop the Oklahoma offense.
Transcript
00:00 >> Josh Newton, we'll go straight to questions for Josh.
00:03 >> How y'all doing?
00:03 >> How'd it feel last week, Josh, with this team to be able to do that on
00:13 senior night for you guys, what did that feel like?
00:16 >> It was refreshing, man, just, you know,
00:20 had a season going, a lot of roller coaster moments.
00:23 And just to count the last home game and court I stayed him up,
00:27 I mean, it couldn't have been no better.
00:30 >> That being your last game with the Carter, I know you got that one game,
00:33 but when you look at your time here at TCU, do you feel like you accomplished
00:36 everything you wanted to in terms of leaving a legacy for
00:38 the next group of Horned Frogs coming up?
00:40 >> Yeah, I have no regret, no regret at all.
00:44 >> What have you seen from Oklahoma's offense?
00:48 >> A lot of tempo, the offensive coordinator is kind of, I think,
00:55 he related to Coach Browse in some type of way.
00:59 So that's a lot of similarity as far as tempo, things like that.
01:04 We're not sure what quarterback is gonna play or is he gonna be Gabriel or Arnold.
01:10 So depending on that, they're kind of like, I would say,
01:14 also the game plan as far as, A, he's a great manager, he knows the offense.
01:19 He can run the ball, but T can't too, so really no different, but
01:23 A just a little more experienced.
01:26 But offense is really simple.
01:29 They like to go wide splits to create a light box, and
01:33 if you step the box, they're gonna try to throw it on the edges.
01:36 Same ball, same ball, football.
01:40 Never really too crazy.
01:41 >> Each last six quarters, second half against Texas,
01:44 does it feel like you guys are starting to turn the corner or?
01:48 >> Yeah, definitely.
01:50 I appreciate those last six quarters cuz it kinda like,
01:53 it kinda makes you feel like we're this team then, but it's just, hey man,
01:59 sometimes the ball ain't gonna roll your way every time.
02:03 So you gotta take your punches just like everybody else.
02:06 >> Is there anything in particular that just has really clicked for
02:10 you guys to start playing successful?
02:12 >> Trusting each other, counting on the next man, and stop, and
02:18 not wanting to play just, you know what I'm saying, like, selfish.
02:21 You kinda like drop the selfish way, trusting the man left right behind you,
02:27 in front of you, to do his job.
02:29 And you see the results we can do when we do that, when we play together.
02:33 >> What is the message this week for you guys?
02:37 I mean, you got an attainable goal to reach a bowl game with a win.
02:43 So what's kinda the message been around the team this week?
02:46 >> Well, rule number one, we're not thinking about no bowl game.
02:50 We're thinking about this week, we have to think that way.
02:54 Because when you look up, it's already right in front of you,
02:57 what you gonna do, you gonna trip.
02:59 So we're not looking up, we're looking down,
03:02 what's right in front of us, which is the next practice tomorrow,
03:05 next beat, next workout, just the next breath of living.
03:10 Can't look too far, gotta stay with that moment.
03:12 >> What has Joshua shown you these last couple of starts?
03:15 >> I gotta hold my tone, but words can't explain.
03:21 He gonna be a legend by the time he leave.
03:24 No doubt.
03:27 >> Anything else for Josh?
03:32 >> You've obviously played against some talented receivers.
03:36 What did the OU receivers bring in particular?
03:39 >> One of the guys, one of the guys that really, really stood out,
03:43 he's out for a year, so it's kind of like, to him.
03:47 But, It's kind of like, same old, same old.
03:55 Number 12, we gotta keep an eye on him,
03:58 cuz he can go off if we let him, but other than that, it's a waste.
