00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:01 So the new Ford Ranger, it's been revealed
00:03 and we did an in-depth look at what we can expect from it.
00:06 You can click up here to watch that one.
00:07 But Ford's just dropped a teaser on the new Ford Everest.
00:11 And I thought we'd do a video
00:12 on what we're expecting out of the Everest
00:14 when it finally does launch in early 2022.
00:17 Sorry about the rough surroundings here.
00:19 We're in the middle of filming and this news drops.
00:21 So we thought we'd stop and put this together
00:23 and see how we go.
00:24 Now in this video, what I'll do is run over
00:26 some of the new footage they've just released,
00:28 plus the information that we know about the Ranger,
00:30 plus also some spy footage that we got a little while ago.
00:34 Now, if you haven't done so already,
00:34 please make sure you subscribe to our channel
00:36 and press the bell icon so you can find out
00:38 every single time we do one of these videos,
00:39 but let's get stuck into this.
00:41 So let's kick off with the exterior.
00:45 And while this car is camouflaged,
00:46 you can tell exactly where they've got the design from.
00:49 And it was kind of the same story with the current Everest.
00:51 So right down the front there,
00:52 you can see that big open grill,
00:55 and then you have that horizontal slat
00:57 that runs there with the Ford logo built into it.
01:00 C-shaped LED headlights,
01:01 and it looks like this will also get matrix LED headlights,
01:04 which is similar to what we see in the Ford Ranger.
01:07 Now, the other curious thing as well,
01:09 it appears that there's like a orange section
01:11 around the headlights there.
01:13 Often they have an indicator on the outboard
01:15 for the US market,
01:16 so it could mean that Ford is finally deciding
01:18 to sell this vehicle in the States.
01:20 But nestled under that Ford logo as well
01:23 is a camera for the 360 camera,
01:24 and then a radar down the bottom
01:26 for things like radar cruise control.
01:28 And then if you whip around to the side of the car,
01:29 you can see another camera under the wing mirror there
01:32 with an LED indicator.
01:33 So this all tells us that it'll probably get
01:35 the same 360 camera system
01:37 that we've seen in the new Ford Ranger.
01:39 And that's gonna be good news for things like trailers
01:41 and parking in tight spaces.
01:43 And it looks like it also has both front
01:45 and rear parking sensors as well.
01:47 There's a shot down from the roof of the car,
01:49 and I think they did this deliberately
01:50 because in between the roof rails,
01:52 you can actually see a big panoramic sunroof there as well.
01:54 So it looks like the front section opens up.
01:57 This'll be great for kids.
01:58 Kids love sitting in the back seat of these cars
02:00 and being able to look out the roof.
02:01 And I think this type of thing in the Everest
02:03 really will enhance the interior.
02:05 And I think they're gonna spend a lot of time and money
02:07 on making sure the interior is a huge leap forward
02:10 from the current generation Everest,
02:11 which kind of just feels a little bit sort of commercial
02:14 inside the cabin, and not quite as luxurious
02:16 as some of the competitors in this segment.
02:18 Around the back of the car,
02:19 we're seeing some chrome highlights
02:20 on the back of that C pillar.
02:22 And then in addition to that,
02:23 it looks like it has an aerial
02:24 that pokes out of the shark fin aerial.
02:26 The whole point of a shark fin aerial
02:27 is to make it compact and not have that.
02:29 So I don't know what the story is with that.
02:30 But also on the back there, LED strips.
02:33 And there's a curious thing.
02:34 You can see the LED lights along the back of the vehicle
02:37 actually look like they stretch
02:39 and connect in the center there.
02:41 And I don't know whether they've padded that up
02:43 to kind of disguise it a little bit further,
02:45 but it looks like they may actually meet in the center.
02:48 And if not, they actually just curl around
02:49 in a C shape as well, similar to the front end.
02:52 And there's also a brake light integrated
02:53 into the rear spoiler there too,
02:55 with the wiper attached at the base of the rear window.
02:58 So they haven't tucked that in.
03:00 Now at the back there as well,
03:01 you'll see plenty of room for a tow bar.
03:02 I suspect this will get a three and a half ton
03:04 brake to towing capacity.
03:06 Other vehicles in this segment like the MU-X
03:07 have now moved up to three and a half tons
03:09 and Ranger at three, 3.1.
03:11 It's kind of fine, but not enough.
03:13 And the reason they're gonna move up
03:15 is because I think this will also get a V6 diesel.
03:17 And I'll run through that in a little bit more detail
03:19 in just a sec.
03:20 Now, what about the interior?
03:21 So I mentioned before that, yes,
03:23 this is kind of shared with a Ranger,
03:25 but they need to make the interior
03:28 a whole lot more luxurious than it was
03:30 in the current Everest.
03:31 And they're definitely gonna be able to achieve that.
03:33 So we did get some spy shots of an Everest
03:34 testing here in Australia.
03:36 And that's where we spotted initially
03:38 that first 12 inch screen.
03:40 It is a Whopper, it comes with SYNC 4.
03:42 We've seen that now revealed with Ranger.
03:44 This will really give this vehicle a step ahead
03:46 in terms of the competition.
03:48 If you think of something like a Prado, for example,
03:49 it's got an 80 inch display.
03:51 It really is just quite a small screen
03:53 in comparison to this.
03:54 This will really sort of move the game forward
03:56 in this segment.
03:57 And that's what a competitor needs to do.
03:59 You can't just be releasing the exact same thing
04:01 every single time.
04:02 The good news about that screen
04:03 is it comes with over the air updates.
04:04 And Ford has said that 50 modules or more in the car
04:07 can be updated.
04:08 So it means that while your car's sitting at home
04:10 connected to the wifi,
04:11 you can be getting new features or changes
04:13 to the way that the car drives overnight
04:14 without having to do anything.
04:16 And that's through an embedded SIM inside the car as well.
04:18 So that's pretty cool.
04:19 We reckon also that it will get a TFT screen
04:21 ahead of the driver, similar to the Ranger.
04:23 So they have two grades in the Ranger.
04:24 They've got a smaller one
04:26 that still has digital stuff along the side.
04:28 And then they have a full screen gauge cluster there
04:31 ahead of the driver.
04:32 And I think the Everest will probably get that
04:34 in top spec trims,
04:35 especially these ones here that have that panoramic roof.
04:37 We have seen as well with Ranger,
04:39 some of the lower models will have a smaller 10 inch screen,
04:41 but it's also vertical.
04:42 So I think regardless of which option you go for in Everest,
04:46 it will still have either of those two vertical screens.
04:49 In terms of space,
04:50 Everest was always a seven seater,
04:51 a little cramped in the third row
04:52 with not much room behind the third row for luggage.
04:55 So hopefully Ford has addressed that
04:56 with some changes to the platform.
04:58 We know with Ranger,
04:59 they moved some of the suspension components
05:00 on the rear of the car.
05:01 They're also able to increase the track.
05:03 More track should mean more interior room,
05:05 especially if they have moved the wheel base
05:07 as well for Everest.
05:09 Finally, what about the engines?
05:10 So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out
05:13 that it will probably have engines shared with the Ranger.
05:17 We did hear at the very end of the Ranger reveal
05:19 that we attended in person,
05:21 the Raptor sounds like it's gonna get a petrol turbo.
05:23 And I don't know that that's going to be translated
05:26 to the Everest,
05:27 but we do know that if it does share itself with the Ranger,
05:29 it's likely gonna get both the single turbo
05:31 and the twin turbo two liter diesel engines.
05:34 And they are pretty much what you find
05:36 in the Everest at the moment.
05:37 They may get a bit of a bump up.
05:38 They currently output 500 new meters of torque
05:40 and they're made it to a 10 speed automatic,
05:42 but that could see a bit of an increase,
05:44 especially if they are going to three and a half ton
05:46 brake towing capacity.
05:47 They probably want just a little bit more juice
05:49 out of that four cylinder diesel.
05:50 But then one step further is the three liter
05:53 turbocharged V6 diesel.
05:55 So this is called the Lion,
05:56 which is the name of the engine.
05:58 It's been used previously in some Land Rover,
06:00 Range Rover products before they moved
06:01 to the Ingenium engines.
06:03 And most recently it was used in the F-150
06:05 before it was discontinued there.
06:07 So we suspect this engine will make its way
06:08 into the Everest as well.
06:10 And this is probably the option you wanna go for
06:12 if you are towing.
06:13 When you tow three and a half tons,
06:14 you really need enough grunt behind the wheel
06:16 and a two liter diesel probably isn't enough,
06:18 but a three liter V6 is really going
06:20 to hit the ground running.
06:21 We reckon it'll be around that 200 kilowatts of power
06:23 and 600 new meters of torque mark.
06:25 In addition to what they've done with Ranger,
06:28 Everest will continue as a full time all wheel drive.
06:30 They do have rear wheel drive versions of the Everest
06:32 and they may offer those as well with the smaller diesels,
06:35 but the V6 most likely will be paired
06:37 to a full time four wheel drive
06:39 because getting that much torque to the ground
06:41 needs a pretty decent all wheel drive system.
06:44 Now, what's my take on all of this?
06:46 Look, there really aren't too many surprises here
06:48 with Everest.
06:49 We've seen what it looks like here in the spy photos.
06:50 It kind of translates to what we've seen with Ranger.
06:53 And I think that's a good thing
06:54 because the Ranger in my opinion is a good looking truck.
06:57 This on the other hand really will take it
06:58 to that next level with creature comforts inside the cabin.
07:01 I really do hope Ford has pushed the envelope
07:03 with perhaps heated rear seats for the second row.
07:05 That panoramic roof looks promising,
07:07 but let's hope they've added a bit more luxury
07:09 to the interior because to be honest,
07:11 if you are gonna be carting your family around,
07:14 yes, it's great to have off-road convenience,
07:16 but really would be nice if Ford
07:17 added a little bit of luxury into that as well.
07:20 It's most likely still gonna be capable off-road
07:21 with the option of a rear differential lock
07:23 and also the TMS system,
07:25 which allows you to configure the drive modes
07:26 while you are off-road as well.
07:28 And I am excited about the technology package too.
07:30 And what does this mean for the competitors?
07:32 Well, Prado is kind of old at the moment.
07:34 It's gonna feel comprehensively old when this is launched
07:37 and the rest of the cars in this segment as well.
07:39 MUX was just launched,
07:40 but again, if Ford is going to release a V6 diesel
07:43 in Everest, it will make the MUX feel very old.
07:46 It already feels old with that infotainment system
07:48 compared to this and the over-the-air updates
07:50 and the other tech that this is gonna be getting.
07:52 So look, let's watch this space
07:54 and see what the competitors do to respond to this.
07:56 It's also our tip that this will get a plug-in hybrid
07:59 or a hybrid at some point in the future along with Ranger.
08:01 And we reckon that'll be around the 2023, 2024 mark
08:04 when that happens.
08:05 And when that does happen,
08:06 it'll be unique to this segment
08:08 because we don't think anyone else is working on this
08:10 right at the moment or won't have anything ready
08:13 in the near future.
08:14 So that will be interesting to watch as well.
08:16 When's it gonna launch?
08:17 We expect this to launch around April, May, 2022,
08:21 shortly after Ranger is launched.
08:23 And hopefully they will have enough supply
08:25 because semiconductor issues are still ongoing.
08:27 This will be built in Thailand for the Australian market.
08:30 And hopefully they get on top of semiconductors
08:32 and all of the parts they're currently short of
08:34 with the rest of the cars on sale around the world.
