00:00 So it's time for another Car Expert Drag Parison.
00:03 I know you thought we were done with the Ranger,
00:04 but not quite yet.
00:06 We wanna see how much quicker the new Raptor is
00:08 up against the V6 Wildtrak
00:10 and then the four-cylinder Wildtrak.
00:12 Now, a quick overview of what each of these is powered by.
00:14 So Raptor now uses a twin turbocharged three litre V6 petrol.
00:18 It's called the EcoBoost,
00:19 makes just under 300 kilowatts of power
00:23 and almost 600 newton metres of torque.
00:25 The Wildtrak V6, it is around 200 kilowatts of power,
00:28 but 600 newton metres of torque.
00:30 And finally, the four-cylinder,
00:32 it's around that 150 kilowatt mark
00:33 and 500 newton metres of torque.
00:35 Each of these uses a 10-speed automatic transmission.
00:38 They're all on all-terrain tyres.
00:40 This is a big old set of KO2s.
00:42 The other two are on a set of Wranglers.
00:44 Now, importantly, what is your power to weight ratio like?
00:47 Well, Raptor comes in at just over 120 kilowatts per tonne.
00:51 The V6 Wildtrak is just under 80 kilowatts per tonne
00:54 and the four-cylinder Wildtrak
00:56 is just under 68 kilowatts per tonne.
00:58 Now let's do a sound test.
01:00 We'll start off with the Raptor.
01:01 Fire it up, Sean.
01:02 Stand out of the way.
01:04 Now, this has four exhaust modes.
01:06 We're gonna go straight to the loudest, which is Baja mode.
01:08 I can already hear it's got a pretty mean idle.
01:11 Give it a rev.
01:11 (engine revving)
01:14 That sounds so good.
01:21 Absolutely love that.
01:22 Okay, now I know we've already heard these
01:24 in our last drag race,
01:25 but I'll just give you a recap.
01:26 James, fire it up.
01:27 This is the V6.
01:29 (engine revving)
01:31 Sounds very Range Rover-like.
01:38 And then this is the four-cylinder.
01:39 (engine revving)
01:42 Still got a little bit of gruffness to it.
01:49 Now, before we kick off,

02:08 So we're gonna just take off all at the same time.
02:11 And I'll run you through who's who in the zoos.
02:12 So, confusingly, 'cause they're both orange,
02:14 next to me, I have James in the V6 Wildtrak.
02:17 Next to James is Scott in the four-cylinder Wildtrak.
02:20 So when we cross the finish line,
02:22 you'll be able to see how they perform.
02:23 James is gonna leave it in four auto.
02:25 Scott is gonna leave it in four high.
02:27 They were the two fastest modes when we did drag race those.

02:37 that I just wanna do a drag race now.

02:40 I'm gonna do some actual performance testing with the V-Box
02:42 to see how quick this is from zero to 100
02:45 and how quick it is across the eighth mile
02:46 and the quarter mile as well.
02:48 I'm gonna put this in what I think is the fastest setting,
02:50 which is Baja mode.
02:52 That switches it from four auto to four high.
02:55 I'll switch stability control off as well
02:58 'cause it is wet outside at the moment,
03:00 so we're gonna struggle with traction.
03:02 Okay, that is off.
03:03 I think we're ready for our countdown.
03:04 We'll see how we go.
03:05 James looks nervous.
03:07 Okay, count us in, Sean.
03:08 - And in three, two, one, go.

03:14 - Oh, there we go.
03:17 Oh, it is walking away,
03:20 but having issues with traction off the line there.
03:22 Let's go.
03:29 All right.
03:31 There's our eighth mile.
03:33 Oh, it is sketchy stopping here in the wet as well.
03:36 My goodness.
03:37 (laughs)
03:38 That was unreal.
03:39 This thing absolutely hauls off the line.
03:41 It is genuinely hard to believe
03:43 how quick this is for a two and a half tonne, dudes.
03:47 Well, I'm gonna have to look back at the footage
03:48 to see if it's sufficiently quick,
03:49 but let's get down to some actual performance testing
03:52 to see how quick this is.
03:53 Zero to 100 and across the eighth mile.
03:55 Righto, so obviously Raptor was gonna be quicker,
04:01 but how quick is it?
04:02 Let's have a look at our performance numbers.
04:04 So it's obviously still wet out here,
04:06 which is a pain in the ass,
04:07 but I'll run you through pretty much all of the drive modes.
04:09 So what we'll do, we'll start off in sport mode
04:12 because normal mode, I don't think is any point there.
04:15 So I'll just give sport mode a shot
04:17 and I'll do that in two wheel drive,
04:18 high range with stability control on to start with,
04:22 and we'll see how we go.
04:23 I'm expecting no traction at all,
04:25 regardless of whether it was wet or not.
04:27 Here we go.
04:28 (car engine roaring)
04:31 (laughs)
04:39 Yeah, not a whole lot is happening.
04:42 Here we go, we're about to hit 100.
04:44 (laughs)
04:46 That whole time it was squirming.
04:49 So zero to 100 in 10.4 seconds
04:53 in sport mode with stability control on.
04:56 That is quite something.
04:58 Okay, you know what it's time for,
04:59 two wheel drive, high range, stability control off.
05:03 So you push and hold the ESC button,
05:05 it will come up there telling you to hold it
05:08 for a little bit longer
05:09 and then it switches stability control entirely off.
05:12 This is obviously just for comical reasons,
05:13 but we'll see how long it takes to get to 100
05:15 if we ever actually get there.
05:17 Here we go.
05:18 (car engine roaring)
05:21 All right, all right, come on.
05:31 Third gear, fifth gear, sixth gear.
05:35 Holy shit.
05:36 Oh Jesus.
05:39 Yes, all right, we just hit 100.
05:41 Holy shit.
05:44 (laughs)
05:45 Like in sixth gear, still spinning its wheels,
05:48 it is insane.
05:49 So 11 seconds.
05:50 So stability control does help you a little bit
05:52 when it's in two wheel drive mode
05:55 in terms of getting the power to the ground.
05:57 This is just, this is genuinely insane.
06:00 300 kilowatt rear wheel drive on tyres
06:02 that have no traction in the wet.
06:04 And yes, that also means that you can then be silly
06:06 if you want.
06:07 (car engine roaring)
06:12 But everything happens in slow-mo.
06:14 So when you do get on it,
06:15 there's smoke coming out of the tyres right now.
06:19 (laughs)
06:21 Oh man, this thing is actually insane,
06:26 but good insane, I love it.
06:28 All right, time to get serious.
06:31 I'm gonna put this into four wheel drive high range.
06:32 I'll keep stability control off
06:34 just because it is pretty clearly wet at the moment
06:37 and we're not gonna get any traction.
06:39 So stability control off sport mode.
06:42 Four wheel drive high range.
06:44 Let's see how we go with this.
06:46 I'll load it up a little bit and then we'll see how it goes.
06:49 I suspect it'll still spin the wheels here as well.
06:51 (car engine roaring)
06:54 It's actually getting that torque to the ground, nice.
07:00 All right, there we are.
07:04 So 6.2 seconds, zero to 100.
07:08 That is in four wheel drive high range,
07:09 stability control off in sport mode.
07:11 Pretty impressed with that for a 2.4, 2.5 tonne dual cab.
07:15 That is bloody unreal.
07:16 Let's move over to Baja mode.
07:21 This is technically just for off-road driving.
07:23 So I don't know whether this is actually going to help us
07:25 with our acceleration, but we'll see what happens anyway.
07:29 So I've got it in Baja mode now.
07:31 I'm gonna turn stability control off
07:34 'cause it is still kind of on in Baja mode.
07:37 Okay, so that is off.
07:39 Exhaust is loud now as well.
07:41 So dial up some revs here
07:43 and we will see what kind of time we can extract from it.
07:46 Here we go.
07:47 (car engine roaring)
07:50 Oh, it feels a little sharper off the line there as well.
07:56 It is scrabbling for grip, that is insane.
07:59 It is insane that in the wet,
08:03 it still doesn't have traction.
08:05 That is absolutely unreal.
08:06 6.1 seconds, zero to 100.
08:10 I reckon there is a sub six second in this
08:12 and whether it means it needs to be dry or not,
08:14 I don't know, but 6.1 in Baja mode there is pretty awesome.
08:17 So I'll give that one more shot in Baja mode,
08:20 just not talking it up as much.
08:23 We'll see how it goes.
08:24 Okay, so let's give Baja mode one more crack here.
08:28 Stability control is off,
08:29 but I won't build up as much torque.
08:30 I found in the diesels that that was the quickest way.
08:33 You basically ramp it up a little bit on the brake
08:35 and then just shoot out of the box.
08:36 So here it goes, Baja mode.
08:38 (engine revving)
08:41 Felt really nice and strong.
08:46 It's still struggling for traction here though.
08:49 It's probably taking a 10th or two out of it.
08:52 Ah, six seconds.
08:54 So I just got a little bit more out of that.
08:56 That's all right, I'm certain in the dry,
08:58 you would get under six seconds with this.
09:00 What I'll do, if it dries up later on,
09:02 after we're done filming,
09:03 I'm gonna give this one more crack
09:04 and I will insert that run into the video just here.
09:07 If it doesn't, six seconds is our best run from zero to 100.
09:11 Okay, so it dried up a little bit,
09:13 as you can see out there.
09:15 We just got 5.8 seconds.
09:17 So you can see that with a little bit more persistence
09:19 and dryness, it actually picks up pace.
09:21 And I think there's probably a 5.7 in there as well.
09:24 So pretty impressive for such a big truck.
09:28 Okay, time for our eighth mile run.
09:30 So I'm gonna pop this in the fastest setting,
09:32 which was Baja mode, stability control off.
09:37 I'll also overlay shots of this on the quarter mile run
09:40 as well, so you can see what the figure looks like.
09:42 All right, here we go.
09:43 We'll dial up some revs and get out of here.
09:46 (engine revving)
09:49 Really does throw you back in the sea, I love it.
09:56 Okay.
09:57 Fuck.

10:03 It is absolutely moving.
10:05 The funny thing is that when we did the other ranges here,
10:08 they, you know, they take a while to wind up,
10:11 whereas this really gets off the line and moves.
10:14 So 9.3 seconds and 128.6 kilometers an hour
10:19 across the eighth mile,
10:20 which I think is pretty awesome for a vehicle this size.
10:23 And I think if it was dry,
10:24 we'd probably get another 10, two tenths out of this.
10:27 So yeah, I am so damn impressed
10:30 with how this performs at a straight line.
10:32 It is absolutely unreal.
10:34 So that was good fun.
10:38 I think we all knew the Raptor was gonna win,
10:39 but by that margin,
10:41 I thought it was pretty damn impressive.
10:42 And it is quick, especially when it's dry.
10:44 It just hooks up so nicely.
10:46 And it is remarkable how a big car like that
10:49 actually feels like a sports car.
10:51 It's strange.
