00:00 "Neo, no one has ever done anything like this."
00:04 "That's why it's going to work."
00:07 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best film fights in
00:12 hallways and other narrow rooms and spaces.
00:14 "Ahh!"
00:20 Number 10, Hit Girl hits mobsters.
00:24 Kick-ass.
00:25 She may be 11 years old, but Hit Girl is easily the most badass character in this film.
00:31 After her father is murdered by mob boss Frank D'Amico, Mindy McCready, or Hit Girl, storms
00:35 his headquarters.
00:37 After doing some absurd kills with a knife on a rope, Hit Girl proceeds to shoot her
00:41 way through the rest of D'Amico's goons in a narrow book-lined hallway.
00:48 Her acrobatics have her leaping off of her opponents, the walls, and over obstacles,
00:53 and all this over-the-top violence is set to Joan Jett's bad reputation.
00:56 It's a snappy, bloody sequence that is a ton of fun to watch, even if it's the shortest
01:02 of the fights we'll be discussing.
01:08 Number 9, Brothel Assault, Taxi Driver.
01:11 The climax of this classic thriller sees Travis Bickle attacking Sport, a pimp who he knows
01:16 employs a child sex worker named Iris.
01:22 After shooting Sport, Travis makes his way inside, shooting a client and contending with
01:27 the injured pimp who follows him in.
01:28 Wounded, Travis makes his way up a staircase, fighting off the bleeding client and Sports
01:34 Bouncer.
01:35 It's a haunting, bloody sequence, with an ambiguous ending that leaves Travis' fate,
01:42 in light of later events, hard to pin down.
01:45 But there is nothing in question about how intense the shootout is, even almost half
01:50 a century later.
02:01 Number 8, Vader Pursues the Rebels, Rogue One, A Star Wars Story.
02:12 The conclusion of this Star Wars prequel sees the Rebellion get their hands on the plans
02:16 to the Death Star, at great cost.
02:18 But the Rebels are not out of the woods just yet.
02:21 As a door jams in a hallway, who should appear at the darkened opposite end but Darth Vader
02:26 himself?
02:30 The Sith Lord ignites his lightsaber and angrily tears through the panicked Rebel soldiers
02:34 like tissue paper, throwing them around with the Force and generally causing mayhem.
02:39 While calling this a fight is a bit generous, the sheer terror and presence Vader invokes
02:44 makes this sequence unforgettable.
02:55 Number 7, Black Widow vs. Hammer Security, Iron Man 2.
03:01 Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow, has a lot of great fight scenes, but her debut
03:06 is still something special.
03:07 The SHIELD assassin shows up at the Hammer factory with Tony Stark's bodyguard, Happy
03:11 Hogan in tow.
03:13 While Happy struggles against the first guard they encounter, Black Widow charges down the
03:17 hallway and quickly takes down a dozen guards.
03:20 She does so with a ton of gadgets, wires, and her signature head scissor move.
03:32 She even breaks out some mace!
03:34 The variety of weapons, creative takedowns, and bits of humor make this an excellent fight.
03:46 Number 6, Stairwell Fight, Atomic Blonde.
03:53 On the eve of the Berlin Wall coming down, Lorraine Broughton is an MI6 agent trying to
03:58 get a defector, Spyglass, out of East Berlin.
04:01 Finding refuge in a nearby building's stairwell after Spyglass is shot, Lorraine fights half
04:05 a dozen KGB agents who pursue them.
04:08 Lorraine fights the first two in the stairwell, with all three combatants getting bloodied
04:12 throughout as they gradually make it down the stairs.
04:21 A shootout with some more opponents leads to a nearby flat, where an exhausted Lorraine
04:25 finally takes down the final opponent.
04:34 Arranged to appear like one continuous shot, though with a couple of clever cuts, this
04:38 scene is among the most brutal hallway fights around.
04:42 Number 5, White House Attack, X2, X-Men United.
04:49 Sometimes a hallway fight is the best way to open a movie.
04:52 At the White House, a brainwashed Nightcrawler teleports his way through security before
04:56 he begins attacking every guard in his way.
04:59 The blue, devilish-looking mutants' acrobatics and teleportation make for a truly unique
05:03 and exciting fight scene, as he appears and disappears faster than you can say "bamf".
05:15 With classic Mozart accompanying his attack, Nightcrawler nearly kills the US President
05:20 before he's wounded and retreats.
05:27 Even decades after its release, this is still an epic set piece and one of the coolest uses
05:32 of teleportation on screen.
05:34 Number 4, Rotating Hallway, Inception.
05:37 Christopher Nolan is famous for his wild, high-concept fight scenes.
05:41 And while the backwards fight in Tenet was tempting, this fight is simply more memorable.
05:46 Inception in general has plenty of mind-bending moments, due to its concept of dreams within
05:51 dreams.
05:52 However, one of the coolest uses of the concept occurs in a fight scene.
05:56 Arthur is dreaming he's in a hotel, while he's in a car being driven by Yusuf.
06:08 As Arthur fights off assailants in a hotel hallway, Yusuf's frankly terrible driving
06:12 causes the whole world to rotate, leading to Arthur and his foes battling not just on
06:17 the floor of the hallway, but also its walls and ceiling.
06:21 Not only is this effect incredible, it's also achieved without CGI.
06:26 Crazy right?
06:35 Number 3, Lobby Shootout, The Matrix.
06:41 A lobby isn't exactly a hallway, but it's narrow enough that we're counting it.
06:46 In this famous scene from The Matrix, Neo and Trinity waltz into the building where
06:50 their leader Morpheus is being held, armed to the teeth.
06:57 After blowing away the initial guards, they're faced with much more dangerous resistance.
07:02 With each taking one side of the room, the duo shoots their way towards the elevator,
07:06 all while effortlessly avoiding the hail of bullets coming their way.
07:15 Between the music, the trademark slow motion and all the flying debris, the lobby fight
07:19 is among the most effortlessly cool shootouts in cinema.
07:27 Number 2, Rama vs. The Machete Gang, The Raid Redemption.
07:32 The Raid films have some of the best fight scenes ever, so it's no surprise that one
07:36 of the best hallway fights is in one of them.
07:39 Rama is a police officer whose team becomes trapped and ambushed in an apartment building
07:43 controlled by drug dealers.
07:45 Alone and without backup, Rama faces off against a gang of machete-wielding thugs in a hallway.
08:01 Rama fights off the gang using rapid-fire kicks, the environment, some of their machetes,
08:06 and his considerable skills in martial arts.
08:09 The choreography is fluid yet natural and all the hits are brutal.
08:13 The whole thing will leave you breathless until Rama dives with the last guy out a window.

08:43 Number 1, The Hallway Fight, Oldboy.
08:46 This is the OG hallway fight.
08:49 It's the one that has inspired so many others, including one from the third Guardians of
08:53 the Galaxy.
08:54 Odesu is a man on a quest for vengeance and answers.
08:58 After interrogating the warden of the prison he was held in for years, Odesu is set upon
09:02 by many guards.
09:04 Shot from the side and in one continuous take, Odesu fights off the men with a hammer and
09:09 his fists.
09:17 Despite the extraordinary circumstances, the whole fight feels grounded in reality.
09:22 The combatants tire eventually.
09:24 Odesu gets a second wind and manages to prevail.
09:27 Despite backup appearing, the grizzled badass still wins.
09:31 The stylish approach and gritty, ferocious combat have made it the gold standard of hallway
09:36 fights.
