00:03 >> Yeah, I've talked a little bit about that, but
00:06 the luxury is that Jackson being the backup, you can go play ball with him too.
00:13 So playing in and going about it, there wasn't a ton of strain.
00:17 Dylan having all the experience we felt like when he got cleared,
00:22 he'd be in a really good spot.
00:24 Mentally being able to stay tuned in but not be cut loose to practice as much as he
00:29 obviously wanted to and it worked out.
00:32 >> You talked about the big pass coming right out of the game,
00:36 the 15 yarder, how important was that?
00:39 >> It was good, we needed to start fast.
00:41 We wanted to get the crowd involved, obviously, and
00:44 let our guys go feel good early and create some momentum.
00:48 >> You kept going wrong in the first quarter and
00:50 the running game didn't do much, didn't track much.
00:52 >> Right. >> Did they change to where they, hey,
00:55 backed up and then that opened the running game?
00:57 >> It did, they softened up a little bit and gave us a chance to get the run game
01:01 going, proud of Gavin, obviously, for doing what he did and
01:04 continuing to play how he's playing.
01:06 >> And Jeff, Jeff, obviously,
01:10 [INAUDIBLE]
01:18 >> Yeah, to me, there's a time and a place for all of it.
01:21 Had great focus on today, finishing the regular season here at home today and
01:27 hopefully the chips fall in our favor and we get to go play next weekend.
01:31 So we'll see about that, but that's about it.
01:35 >> Jeff, you had to be patient with the running game, but
01:38 when it did get going, it really hurt.
01:41 >> It was good, it was good just to be able to have some of those runs there late in
01:45 the third and then into the fourth to be able to go ice the game and
01:48 continue to apply pressure to them and stay away from them and not make it close.
01:54 I thought when they cut it to 14, us being able to go answer the way we did and
01:58 get it back right was good.
02:01 Yeah, I thought our guys up front did a nice job of hatting the right people and
02:07 finishing and straining.
02:08 And I felt like the guys played really, really hard, played tough.
02:13 >> Can you go through the decision to go for it on fourth down, fourth and inches?
02:16 Why'd you do it?
02:17 >> Yeah. >> Why'd you do that play?
02:19 >> Felt, knew it was gonna be man to man and
02:22 felt like we were gonna have the ability to be two on one in the C gap.
02:26 And we were, Dylan did a really nice job of being able to tuck it right there as
02:29 a C gap player, went and took the back in the pitch and made a nice play.
02:34 Gave him some grief about not scoring, but it was timely, it was good.
02:39 >> Did you have to lobby Brent?
02:40 Were you guys on the same page?
02:41 >> No, he said let him go for it.
02:42 I said yes, sir.
02:43 >> [LAUGH]
02:44 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:48 >> Yeah.
02:49 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:55 >> Proud of that guy.
02:57 He's stayed the course, he's continued to mature and
03:01 just continued to work to put himself in position to make plays for us.
03:06 And that was his whole goal, is coach,
03:08 I'm gonna do everything I can to where you can't keep me off the field.
03:12 And he had the right mentality and mindset about it and, man, just a lot of trust and
03:16 confidence in where he's at today, which is great.
03:19 >> What was your message to Jason when he was pointing at the crowd right before he
03:22 got the end zone and had someone pulling on him?
03:24 >> Yeah. >> And he's still kind of doing
03:25 an early celebration?
03:26 >> He needs to take that long sleeve shirt off, it wasn't cold.
03:28 >> [LAUGH] >> It looks better with his hands,
03:30 because last year he played some of the season, he had some drops or something.
03:33 >> Yeah, I think he's playing really confident right now.
03:35 He's put in a ton of work, he's put in a ton of time.
03:37 He's continued to work on himself every single day and
03:40 creating consistency when he's not in the building.
03:43 To me, it shows up on the field and it's a credit to him growing up and
03:47 doing a really good job.
03:49 >> My bad, my bad.
03:50 >> What has Dylan meant to you and what do you say to him after the game?
03:54 >> He means the world to me.
03:56 To me, it's pretty uncommon for us to be in the situation that we're in,
04:01 getting to do it with, man, people we love every single day and just proud of him.
04:06 >> How important is Dylan's ability to run the ball?
04:10 How big is that to the offense?
04:12 And you kind of alluded to it, but was the plan just to run him no matter what,
04:16 as long as he's playing today?
04:18 >> Yeah, we wanted to make sure that we were able to stay on schedule and
04:22 him give us the opportunity to make some plays with his feet.
04:25 He did that.
04:25 He did a really good job of sliding and not taking unnecessary shots.
04:29 He hadn't done that all year.
04:31 But I thought he did a really good job of it today and staying out of harm's way.
04:35 >> Is there any part of you that says, okay, let's call the NCAA and
04:37 see what they say about another year for Dylan?
04:39 >> He's actually got another year.
04:41 He does.
04:42 So that's something that we'll talk through and I'm sure he'll address and
04:48 we'll see where we're at moving forward.
04:51 >> [INAUDIBLE]
05:01 >> Pretty special.
05:03 When you talk about Drake and you talk about Oklahoma football,
05:07 he is OU football to the core.
05:10 And I mentioned it earlier on the radio, but
05:13 if I'm fortunate enough to be able to do this for 20, 25 more years, and
05:18 I might not ever have the opportunity to coach a guy like Drake Stoops again.
05:21 So he means the world to me, to us, to our football team, to our locker room.
05:27 And just so dang proud of what he's been able to accomplish and happy for him.
05:31 >> When you took this job,
05:32 you needed the right quarterback to really do what you wanted to do.
05:35 Everything probably couldn't come better fit after two years,
05:38 seeing what Dylan, how he brought this program around.
05:40 Did you think this was exactly the journey it was gonna be to get to this point?
05:43 >> No, I don't think that I thought that there was gonna be some of the lows that
05:48 we went through.
05:49 I think that's probably obvious, but I did know that we had a guy that was gonna be
05:54 incredibly true to himself, that was gonna work as hard or
05:57 harder than anybody in America to dominate his job.
06:01 And he's done that and he's put us in position to win football games and
06:04 just again could not be more proud to be his coach.
06:08 >> Is it difficult at all to mentalize things when you need to work at a different
06:13 job and you still have potential big problems to work back to?
06:18 >> Hopefully it was pretty clear today that my focus was on one thing.
06:22 And my energy and my mindset and how we wanted to go play was on one thing and
06:27 that was going 1-0 today and just again proud of our guys.
06:32 >> PCU's not a great defense, but they're not bad.
06:34 >> Yeah.
06:35 >> 62 offensive points.
06:37 Is this the best your offense, you think in two years,
06:39 is this the best game you guys had?
06:40 >> I thought we did a really nice job of explosive plays and
06:45 our guys competed really well.
06:46 We've played really clean at times this year and
06:49 given us a chance to score a bunch of points and be dominant.
06:52 Today was another opportunity to do that and
06:55 again just our guys went out and did it and credit to them.
06:58 >> Thinking back, it's kind of curious, have you competed against Kendall before?
07:03 Did you guys spend Thanksgiving together?
07:05 What was that dynamic like?
07:06 >> This was the third time we've had to coach against each other.
07:10 So obviously the two years I was at Ole Miss and he was at Arkansas.
07:13 So it's not something we enjoy, not something we like.
07:17 We are family and we are as close of friends as you could ever imagine.
07:23 So hey, he's going through it right now, but I'm glad this one's done.
07:29 >> Thanksgiving, yes, no?
07:30 >> No. >> Okay.
07:31 >> No.
