00:00 "Why is there shit here? How is it here?"
00:04 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at questions
00:07 from Disney and Pixar movies that received answers through sequels,
00:10 TV continuations, tie-in materials, and the filmmakers themselves.
00:15 This entails more than a few spoilers.
00:17 "Like I told you, things are never quite what they seem, are they?"
00:22 Number 10. What's the sorcerer's name? Fantasia.
00:28 Mickey Mouse was already an icon by the time he appeared in
00:31 The Sorcerer's Apprentice with a slick redesign.
00:33 Without any dialogue, though, the sorcerer's name never comes up.
00:43 In a 1940 screenplay for Fantasia, the sorcerer is identified as Yen Sid,
00:48 Disney spelled backward.
00:50 The filmmakers not only confirm this as the sorcerer's official name,
00:53 but also that the character was modeled after Walt Disney himself.
00:56 "Mr. Yen Sid, it's an honor."
01:00 "Hey there."
01:00 "Show us. Show some respect."
01:03 Walt would occasionally use "Retlaw Yen Sid" as a pseudonym,
01:07 most notably for a story credit in the 1966 comedy Lieutenant Robin Crusoe, USN.
01:12 With Yen Sid reflecting Walt's stern, no-nonsense demeanor,
01:16 and Mickey bringing out his playful, experimental side,
01:18 The Sorcerer's Apprentice centers on two opposites
01:21 who together paint a full portrait of Mr. Disney.

01:32 Many Disney movies bring up the same question,
01:39 "Where's the protagonist's mom?"
01:41 "I don't even have a mom."
01:42 "Neither do we!"
01:44 The Little Mermaid got around to answering this
01:46 in the straight-to-video Ariel's Beginning.
01:48 While Ariel's mom was briefly mentioned in the TV series,
01:51 she didn't make an on-screen appearance until this prequel.
01:55 Queen Athena is the spitting image of Ariel,
01:57 but not really her other six daughters.
02:00 Ariel inherited a love of singing from her mother,
02:03 who received a music box from Triton on their anniversary.
02:05 "Hm. Endless sky."
02:08 "Our song."
02:10 "Our song."
02:13 While trying to rescue oldest daughter Atina and reclaim her music box,
02:20 Athena is crushed by a pirate ship.
02:23 "Somewhere in the chaos, Queen Athena was lost to us."
02:28 "Athena!"
02:30 Her death causes a grief-stricken Triton to go footloose on the kingdom.
02:33 Ariel brings music back in Ren McCormack fashion,
02:36 although Triton remains skeptical about human stuff.
02:39 "Have you lost your senses completely?
02:42 He's a human! You're a mermaid!"
02:44 "I don't care!"
02:45 "Oh, help me, Ariel.
02:47 I am going to get through to you.
02:49 And if this is the only way, so be it."
02:53 Number 8.
02:54 Where is Dory's family?
02:56 Finding Nemo.
02:57 Crashing into Marlin's life,
02:59 Dory remembers little about her past outside of the fact
03:02 that she has a short-term memory.
03:04 Dory ponders where her family is,
03:06 although she immediately forgets what she was thinking about.
03:09 "No, it's true! I forget things almost instantly.
03:11 It runs in my family.
03:12 Well, I mean, at least I think it does.
03:14 Hm. Where are they?"
03:18 The question doesn't come up again until the sequel,
03:20 which takes place one year later.
03:22 In a flashback, we learn that Dory was separated from her mom and dad.
03:26 "Hi, I'm Dory. Can you please help me?"
03:29 "Well, hi, Dory. Dory, are you lost?"
03:32 "Yeah, well, where are your parents?"
03:33 "Um, I can't remember."
03:37 Dory just keeps swimming, in the wrong direction,
03:40 eventually switching priorities.
03:42 When a memory is triggered,
03:44 Dory once again sets out to find her parents,
03:46 who never stop looking for her.
03:48 "Oh, honey, you found us, and you know why you found us?
03:51 Because you remembered.
03:52 You remembered in your own amazing Dory way."
03:59 It's a happy ending for Dory,
04:01 but not so much for the Tank Gang,
04:03 who miraculously floated across the ocean in plastic bags without starving,
04:07 only to be captured again.
04:08 Number 7.
04:10 Where did Mother Gothel come from?
04:12 Tangled
04:13 Tangled opens with an elderly Mother Gothel
04:15 discovering the Sundrop Flower,
04:17 unlocking its powers with a song.
04:19 "Make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine,
04:25 what once was mine."
04:29 "All right, you get the gist. She sings to it, she turns young."
04:32 The film otherwise doesn't delve deep into Gothel's life
04:34 before she captured Rapunzel,
04:36 but the follow-up series provides further insight.
04:39 It's suggested that Gothel was a pupil of Lord Demanitus,
04:42 betraying him in favor of the evil Xantiri.
04:46 This would explain how Gothel already knew so much about the Sundrop,
04:49 which is revealed to have a counterpart, the Moonstone.
04:52 "I knew the research I had written about the Sundrop and Moonstone was valuable,
04:56 dangerous, in evil lands."
04:59 Gothel is only interested in the Sundrop, though,
05:02 since it can restore youth.
05:04 Once Rapunzel absorbs the Sundrop's powers,
05:07 Gothel kidnaps the princess while abandoning her biological daughter, Cassandra.
05:11 Gothel is an even worse mother than we thought,
05:13 setting the stage for an epic sibling rivalry years later.
05:17 "Cass, if what you're saying is true, it means..."
05:21 "It means that I'm Gothel's daughter, and your destiny belongs to me."
05:26 Number 6. How honest is Dolores? Encanto
05:30 "My cousin Dolores can hear this whole corner's a mile away."
05:32 Co-director Jared Bush has taken to social media
05:35 to answer numerous questions about Encanto,
05:37 confirming that if the Madrigal family were to adopt a child,
05:41 they would still get a gift.
05:42 Speaking of gifts, Dolores hears everything that goes on in Casita.
05:46 She even knew Bruno was still living there,
05:49 although she didn't share that information.
05:51 "Gruel and live in fear, Bruno's stuttering or stumbling.
05:53 I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling.
05:56 I associate him with the sound of fallen sand."
05:58 This led viewers to wonder exactly how honest Dolores is.
06:02 One fan pointed to a scene where Dolores tells Isabella
06:05 that Mariano wants five babies.
06:07 "Dolores, do we have a date?"
06:09 "Tonight, he wants five babies."
06:12 "Wonderful."
06:13 It was theorized that Dolores made this up,
06:16 both to mess with Isabella and because she secretly loves Mariano.
06:20 When asked about the exchange, Bush replied,
06:22 "I mean, the evidence is right here."
06:25 Dolores hears all, but that doesn't mean she tells all.
06:29 "And no matter what happens, we're gonna find our way.
06:31 You and you, he never left, I heard him every day."
06:33 Number 5. What happens when Andy goes to college?
06:37 Toy Story franchise
06:38 In Toy Story 2, Stinky Pete tells Woody that nothing lasts forever,
06:42 noting that Andy probably won't take him to college.
06:45 "Do you really think Andy is gonna take you to college?
06:48 Or on his honeymoon?
06:50 Andy's growing up, and there's nothing you can do about it."
06:57 Woody nonetheless decides to make the most of Andy's childhood, but time flies.
07:01 While a college-bound Andy has moved on from his playthings,
07:04 he can't quite bring himself to let go of Woody yet.
07:07 It appears Pete's premonition was off,
07:10 although he was pretty close on the whole rotting-in-some-landfill thing.
07:13 "Where's your kid now, Sheriff?"
07:16 Thankfully, the toys survived their encounter with an incinerator,
07:23 making it back to Andy.
07:24 Before departing, Andy is motivated to pass his toys onto a girl named Bonnie,
07:29 leaving us with just one more question.
07:31 Whatever happened to Bo Peep?
07:33 You'll have to watch Toy Story 4 to find out.
07:35 "How long have you been out on your own?"
07:37 "Seven fantastic years."
07:39 "Seven?"
07:40 "You would not believe the things I've seen."
07:43 Number 4.
07:44 "Wanna know how I got this scar? The Lion King."
07:47 Watching The Lion King, one has to wonder,
07:50 was Simba's uncle named Scar at birth,
07:52 coincidentally getting a facial wound later in life?
07:55 "Hey Uncle Scar, when I'm king, what'll that make you?"
07:59 "A monkey's uncle."
08:00 "You're so weird."
08:02 "You have no idea."
08:04 The Lion Guard TV series reveals that Scar was merely a nickname.
08:08 Mufasa's younger brother was born Asgari.
08:11 Becoming the Lion Guard,
08:13 Asgari initially protected the Pride Lands before letting power go to his head.
08:17 His mind was further poisoned after a rogue lion's cobra bit his left eye,
08:21 giving him his signature look.
08:23 "A strange lion was scheming and had a friend I didn't see."
08:29 "That's how I got my scar."
08:35 Killing the lion and cobra,
08:37 Asgari received the nickname Scar from Mufasa.
08:40 This only fuels the animosity between the brothers,
08:42 leading to Scar usurping Pride Rock with help from the hyenas.
08:46 "My first plot for vengeance was spoiled when I lost the roar."
08:51 "My second plan later succeeded. Mufasa was king no more."
08:57 By the way, the hyenas survived the events of The Lion King,
09:00 but only thanks to cannibalism.
09:02 Number 3.
09:04 Where were Anna and Elsa's parents headed?
09:07 Frozen.
09:08 Arendelle's king and queen become lost at sea in Frozen,
09:11 their intended destination left unknown.
09:13 "Do you have to go?"
09:14 "You'll be fine, Elsa."
09:17 The internet cooked up a fun theory that the couple was heading to Rapunzel's wedding,
09:21 their sunken ship was the same one from The Little Mermaid,
09:23 and they were stranded on an island with their newborn son Tarzan.
09:27 While the Frozen filmmakers humored this theory,
09:30 they gave an official explanation in the sequel.
09:32 Discovering their parents' wrecked ship,
09:34 our heroes learn that the king and queen were searching for Otto Holland,
09:37 hoping that they could unlock the mystery of Elsa's powers.
09:40 "This is my fault. They were looking for answers about me."
09:44 "You are not responsible for their choices, Elsa."
09:48 They only got so far, but Elsa finds that her powers aren't a curse,
09:52 but rather a gift that nature granted after her mother selflessly saved her father years ago.
09:57 "Did you find the fifth spirit?"
09:58 "You are the fifth spirit. You are the bridge."
10:05 Number 2. Is the Beast named… Beast? Beauty and the Beast.
10:10 While the narrator identifies him as the prince and his servants call him Master,
10:14 Belle refers to her beau as Beast.
10:16 "Master, have you thought that perhaps this girl could be the one to break the spell?"
10:21 "Of course I have! I'm not a fool."
10:24 Now that he's human again, Beast is hardly a proper name.
10:27 So what did Belle call him going forward?
10:29 "Beast!"
10:30 "Belle."
10:32 Did his real name ever come? Did Belle even ask?
10:35 You won't find the answer in any of the films,
10:37 but you will in the 1998 Disney trivia CD-ROM game, The D Show.
10:42 During a fast-focus round, the player is asked to identify the character,
10:46 the correct answer being Prince Adam.
10:48 "It should be crystal clear the answer is… Prince Adam."
10:54 "He's my beauty."
10:56 It's unclear where the name Adam came from.
10:59 Even the filmmakers aren't entirely in agreement.
11:01 With the name being used for other tie-in material though,
11:04 many consider Prince Adam to be canon.

11:23 Number 1. Are the Genie and Peddler the same person?
11:27 Aladdin
11:28 Everyone knows that Robin Williams brought the Genie to life,
11:31 but you might be surprised to learn that he also voiced the Peddler at the beginning of Aladdin.
11:35 "Welcome to Agrabah, city of mystery, of enchantment."
11:42 "The finest merchandise this side of the river Jordan on sale today! Come on down!"
11:45 This sparked a theory that the Peddler was truly the Genie in disguise.
11:49 "Now I know I'm dreaming."
11:50 "Master!"
11:51 "I don't think you quite realize what you've got here.
11:54 So why don't you just ruminate whilst I illuminate the possibilities."
11:59 Aside from sharing the same voice actor, this would tie into the film's overarching theme
12:04 with Jasmine pretending to be a peasant and Aladdin pretending to be a prince.
12:08 The theory made so much sense that it had to be true, which it was.
12:12 "But what is inside that counts. This is no ordinary lamp!"
12:17 "It once changed the course of a young man's life.
12:20 A young man who liked this lamp was more than what he seemed."
12:23 Directors John Musker and Ron Clements confirmed that this was their intention.
12:27 They even planned an ending where the Peddler unveils his true identity.
12:31 It didn't make the final cut, but the Peddler is officially more than what he seems.
12:36 "Are you sure you don't want to buy this lamp?
12:38 Like I told you, things are never quite what they seem.
12:42 Are they?"
