00:00 Hello it's Martin Dempster the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here coming to you
00:05 from the Albany Resort in the Bahamas where the opening round in the 2023
00:12 Hero World Challenge has just finished. All eyes of course were on Tiger Woods
00:18 the tournament host as he made his return to action for the first time
00:22 since the Masters in April. Tiger got off to a quite a good start really
00:29 fantastic opening drive his game was pretty sharp for the first five six
00:33 holes he was still going well after holding a 40 foot birdie putt on the 11th
00:40 but he then became a bit ragged after that. Ran up a double bogey and then two
00:46 bogeys after that in the closing few holes and that left him having to settle
00:50 for a three over par 75. He said afterwards that he was feeling a bit
00:56 sore, his body was hurting everywhere actually and said that he didn't really
01:02 play too bad but I think the thing that really made it difficult for him was he
01:10 didn't handle the sort of mental challenge of being back in a competitive
01:16 environment. The lead in this event is being shared by the Open Champion Brian
01:21 Harmon and his fellow American Tony Finau. They both shot 500 par 67's to
01:29 set a shot ahead of Jordan Spieth who had a real roller coaster ride out there.
01:34 He had two eagles and also a double bogey seven. I think he was just five pars on
01:40 his card so it just shows you there's different ways to shoot scores at the
01:45 top level. The day though it was all about Tiger really. He'll be looking to
01:51 do better tomorrow but at the same time it's great to see the 15-time major
01:56 winner back playing golf again. Keep up to date with this event and all the
02:01 goings on in golf by buying the Scotsman or logging on to Scotsman.com
