00:00 Alright, thanks everyone for being here. We have Sedona Prince and Madison Conner following
00:07 tonight's win over Abilene Christian. Questions in the room for these two.
00:12 Sedona, career high 10 blocks tonight. Just talk about it.
00:18 Well, they were trying to shoot. It definitely worked out when you have a 6 foot center down
00:26 the post. That's been one of my talents for a long time. It's so much fun. My biggest
00:33 struggle getting into this season, I was like I just need to stay away from fouling. I've
00:36 been working really hard on that. Just trying to keep it clean. Tonight was a big victory
00:41 for me getting my career high end blocks but also just having one foul.
00:46 One foul on the offensive end.
00:48 Yeah, so that's a big step in the right direction for me. So I was really happy.
00:54 That's another game where you hit 9 threes this time. Shooting well from 3. Is it just
01:00 a natural shot for you? It looks like you're not afraid to put it up.
01:04 Yeah, I'm in the gym all the time. I shoot like 500 threes a day. I'm just getting up
01:08 reps. I've been doing that since my junior year of high school. So I finally have the
01:12 opportunity to have good looks. Having Sedona down there as a post president, they have
01:15 to help. And then having such a good playmaker on the ball as Jaden, I just get wide open
01:20 looks and that's my job to knock them down.
01:23 You hit 9 threes tonight. Do you feel like you could have hit more tonight? Like you
01:30 should have had more tonight?
01:31 Yeah, for sure. I had 19 attempts and I think I had 19 good looks. I mean maybe 18. I think
01:37 I took one or two bad ones. But for me, I feel like that's not that great of a shooting
01:43 night. I want to hit all of them obviously if that's not the case.
01:48 In the third quarter, I feel like Agnes was kind of key for you guys. She's gotten a ton
01:53 of offensive rebounds, had a couple of bugs. Just talk about what she did for you guys
01:58 in that third quarter.
01:59 Yeah, we needed a boost after they scored 26 points in the second quarter. We needed
02:04 that boost of like, "All right, let's go." And I yelled at her when we were doing shooting
02:11 and said, "Aggie, we need you. Come on, we need you, Aggie." And so I'm so glad that
02:15 something just turned on her and she just was like, "I'm going to get every board."
02:19 Because those extra sessions got us some really, really good extra looks and extended our lead
02:25 just that much more in that crunch time.
02:27 What was the message at halftime? Because the second quarter was a little sloppy from
02:32 y'all letting Avalyn Christian back in the game. What did Campbell tell y'all at halftime?
02:36 Just that we need to step it up. I mean, you can't give 26 points up in a quarter to anybody,
02:44 especially in tight games. I mean, what was it? It was a four-point game, I think? Yeah,
02:49 we can't do that. They scored seven points in the first quarter and then in the second
02:52 quarter they scored 26 points. We can't do that. They're a good team. They can knock
02:57 down threes, so that's dangerous. When you play a team that can knock down open threes,
03:01 you can't let them get hot. Once they get hot and get into rhythm, that's dangerous.
03:04 So we try to lock in defensively and just play better offensively, too.
03:08 Was there anything specific in the second quarter where it felt like things started
03:12 to slip away from you guys? I just think it was a lack of focus, to be honest. We were
03:18 just kind of not getting the best shots offensively and then defensively, they were doing whatever
03:23 they wanted. So kind of just a lack of focus. We just had to zone back in in the third quarter.
03:29 Coach, y'all came back out for the second half shoot-around at nine minutes to go with
03:35 the half, ten minutes to go. Was that a little early? Did they have you come out and shoot
03:40 deliberately to get into rhythm for the second half? I feel like that wasn't strategically
03:45 done. I feel like we went in at halftime. We knew we were messing up the second quarter,
03:50 so it was a quick, easy, you guys need to focus and lock in. This is a good team. Don't
03:54 play around. Go back out there and get shots up. So pretty simple. We know what we have
03:58 to do, so he's not going to take 20 minutes at halftime to talk to us.
04:03 How do y'all fight complacency as you go through the non-conference schedule?
04:10 The biggest thing that Mark talks about every day in practice is it's easy to just settle.
04:15 It's easy to lose focus of the big picture and become complacent. So every day in practice,
04:22 we keep energy up. Every game matters. We can't not show up for any of these preseason
04:27 games because they matter in the end. But if something happens in one of these, then
04:31 that's going to hurt our chances later in the season when we put it all together. We
04:35 talk about every day, it takes those great people, all the greats, they put it together
04:41 every day and they just keep pushing and pushing and pushing no matter how far they go.
04:46 There are lessons to be learned out of every game. What was the lesson for y'all in this
04:50 game? We can't lose focus at all. You take 10 minutes
04:54 off in a Big 12 game, you're down by 40 points. So thankfully we were able to work our way
04:59 back and gain a sense of focus in the third quarter. But you do this in a Big 12 game
05:04 and it's not a game. So we just have to lock in and put the pieces together and play 40
05:09 minutes of good basketball. We're doing it slowly. It's when we get two
05:13 quarters or half or three quarters, it's getting longer and longer prolonged periods of time.
05:18 We're locked in. We're playing our best basketball. It's going to keep going and we're going to
05:23 keep narrowing those times. Obviously we want it to be 40 minutes of incredible basketball,
05:27 but our team needs to keep growing and putting every game together and every session together.
05:32 Is that the good thing about these non-conference games that it allows you all to work through
05:37 those kinks as you get ready for Big 12 play? Yeah, for sure. With how many new players we
05:42 have, I feel like we've matched really well. We play really well together, but obviously
05:46 you're not going to play perfect. A team that's been together for three years isn't going
05:49 to play perfect basketball. So kind of just working those kinks out and you can see like
05:53 winches in the Braxton game, we played an amazing first half and then the second half
05:56 we came out and it was a different game. So kind of just putting those things together.
06:01 I feel like everybody works hard. Everybody knows what the end goal is. So it's just a
06:04 matter of us actually locking in and putting 40 minutes of basketball together.
06:08 We all talk about the depth on this team and then like secondary scoring beyond y'all.
06:14 Is it going to take more to get as we move towards Big 12 play?
06:19 Yeah, I mean, it's going to take a whole squad. Especially when you get late in the season,
06:26 you never know what happens. Whether it's a dunk set, whatever.
06:30 You said that.
06:31 It's on the blank.
06:32 But you never know what happens. The season is very long and it takes a lot to win a lot
06:38 of games. And so we need every player to keep pushing and know that anyone can be there
06:43 time. And they are. They're working really hard and we have players on the bench that
06:49 are incredible players and could be playing in those spots. But yeah, we're just contributing
06:53 every way they can and being incredible teammates.
06:58 Anything else for these two?
07:00 All right.
07:01 Thank you.
