00:00 Bolivia signed on Wednesday a 450 million dollar deal with the Russian state firm Uranium
00:05 One Group to build a pilot lithium plant to produce batteries and lead-free vehicle components.
00:11 The chief executive of Bolivia's state-run lithium firm, YLV, Carla Calderon, said the
00:17 pilot plant would produce 1,000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate in the first year, before
00:22 eventually scaling up to 14,000 tons per year.
00:27 Bolivia's 23 million metric tons of certified lithium preserves have drawn interest from
00:31 China and Russia, which have allied with the South American country to launch industrial-scale
00:35 production.
00:36 Together with Argentina and Chile, Bolivia makes up the so-called lithium triangle.
00:48 With this agreement, Bolivia is ratifying the fact that we are involved in absolutely
00:55 every stage of the production and trade of our lithium.
01:02 We had to turn to another model of economic development, and for Bolivians, that is lithium.
