00:00 Hello and welcome back to the Edinburgh Evening News. I'm Neil Johnston, a reporter at the
00:03 paper and these are some of the top stories you can find on our website today.
00:09 An Edinburgh dad has hit out at budget airline EasyJet after long delays saw his family stuck
00:14 at Edinburgh airport with their toddler for more than seven hours.
00:18 Scott Linus booked a short family holiday to Paris to celebrate the birthday of his
00:22 wife and his son who was due to turn two on the holiday.
00:26 After online check-in problems and long delays their flight was cancelled which resulted
00:30 in the family nearly missing out on their dream family holiday to Disneyland.
00:35 Mr Linus then had to fork out £550 on alternative flights with a different airline to make sure
00:41 that they didn't miss out on their Disneyland trip.
00:44 The 32-year-old dad said the customer service provided by EasyJet was a disgrace and they
00:49 are refusing to pay us for compensation and so far have only refunded us £79 for the
00:54 initial flight. He added "in more than 18 years of flying this is undoubtedly the worst
00:59 experience I've ever had." EasyJet has been approached for comment.
01:04 East Lothian train station has reopened after being closed for nearly 60 years. The first
01:09 train arrived at the station at half past ten yesterday morning where a bagpiper played
01:13 to crowds who had congregated on the platform of Scotland's newest railway station.
01:18 After closing in 1964 the station has since undergone a £15 million revamp supported
01:24 by the Scottish Government and East Lothian Council with funding going towards a new footbridge
01:29 and a large car park which includes 18 electric vehicle charging points.
01:34 Norman Hampshire, leader of the East Lothian Council said "the arrival of the first train
01:39 at the new station is a historic moment for the community" adding "people living here
01:43 will benefit from greatly improved transport connections."
01:47 And finally, Eurovision star Sam Ryder put on a surprise performance outside the Dome
01:52 on George Street yesterday, delighting crowds with a 30 minute acoustic set. The chart-topping
01:57 singer put on a festive performance which included popular Christmas songs, his latest
02:02 single 'Your Christmas to Me' and his signature song 'Spaceman'.
02:07 The special performance was hosted by Deliveroo who organised the event as a gift to Edinburgh
02:11 residents after revealing that the capital is the most charitable city in the UK when
02:16 it comes to using the in-app round-up function to donate to anti-poverty charity the Trostle
02:21 Trust.
