00:00 Hello I'm Neil Johnston, a reporter at the Enbury Evening News and these are some of
00:04 the top stories you can find on our website today. An investigation has been
00:09 launched after a man was found dead in a tenement flat in Leith. Emergency
00:14 services were called to a property on Spey Terrace around 12.20pm on Sunday
00:19 February 25th. A Police Scotland spokesperson said the death is being
00:23 treated as unexplained however does not appear to be suspicious. A 34 year old
00:29 man who was jailed for attacking a priest with a glass bottle inside an
00:33 Edinburgh Cathedral has died in prison. In July 2021 Jason Irvine repeatedly
00:39 struck father Jamie McMorrin to the body with a makeshift weapon while the
00:43 priest was kneeling for morning prayers at St. Mary's Cathedral. After fleeing the
00:47 scene Irvine then assaulted a 16 year old girl in East Princes Street Gardens.
00:51 Irvine was later jailed for 27 months at HMP Edinburgh but was remanded in
00:57 custody on an unrelated matter at the Capitol Court earlier this year. A Police
01:02 Scotland spokesperson said on Wednesday February 21st officers were advised
01:06 about the death of a 34 year old male prisoner at HMP Edinburgh within the
01:11 Royal Infirmary. There are no suspicious circumstances and a report has been
01:15 submitted to Procurator Fiscal. And finally an Edinburgh police officer who
01:21 was stabbed after being called to deal with an armed man in Pennywell Road last
01:24 year has been presented with a bravery award. PC Ryan Bunting sustained injuries
01:29 to his shoulder after 51 year old Derek Archer threw a knife at him on the 14th
01:34 of January 2023. Archer was later jailed for a total of 20 months and handed a
01:40 supervised release order for 12 months. PC Bunting received the award at the
01:45 recent Police Scotland Chief Constable's Bravery and Excellence Awards. Speaking
01:49 at the event Police Scotland Chief Constable Joe Farrell said "these awards
01:53 shine a light on the great value policing brings to communities, keeping
01:57 people safe from harm, protecting the vulnerable, bringing criminals to justice,
02:01 solving problems and reducing offending." For all the latest news from Edinburgh
