00:02 Derbyshire Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward
00:06 after a pensioner was attacked in an unprovoked road raid incident.
00:09 The victim, a man in his 70s, was almost hit by a car that was turning out of Liddell in Ripley
00:16 between 12.30 and 1pm on Thursday. As he walked past the car, which had stopped due to traffic,
00:22 he said he shouted at the driver about the near miss. He then told police that the driver got
00:27 out of the car, pushed him over and punched him a number of times in the face. A woman was seen
00:33 to get out of the car and pull the attacker away. The assault took place in Nottingham Road outside
00:38 Taylors Corn Stores and it is believed that a number of people will have witnessed the incident.
00:43 Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
00:46 Of particular interest is drivers who have dash cam footage that may have captured the incident
00:52 or the moments just before or afterwards. Plans to build a new teaching block at Chesterfield
00:59 College have been approved by the Borough Council. The construction of the two-storey
01:03 Engineering and Life Sciences building on Infirmary Road will be funded by the
01:08 Government and will replace the current North Block 1 which will be demolished.
