00:16 as historic and as a triumph for the Bolivarian peace diplomacy.
00:23 In Palestine, the Israeli occupation army continues to intensify its aggression against
00:28 the civilian population at hospitals in Gaza.
00:33 In Serbia, more than 6 million citizens are called to the polls to vote this Sunday's
00:38 early parliamentary elections.
00:44 Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesus Studios
00:48 in Havana, Cuba.
00:49 We begin with the news.
00:51 The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, described the meetings in St. Vincent and
00:54 the Grenadines as historic and a triumph for the Bolivarian peace diplomacy.
00:58 During an extended Security Council with the military high command, the Venezuelan President
01:03 pointed out that it was fair and necessary to develop the consultative referendum for
01:07 the Guayana and Zequiba so that the population could determine the terms of the future of
01:11 the Zequiba.
01:12 In addition, he emphasized that they have kept on overcoming the test to consolidate
01:17 peace and internal security in the country.
01:19 Maduro also highlighted the success of the monolithic union of the Bolivarian National
01:24 Armed Forces and the libertarian and unionist vocation of Venezuela before Latin America
01:30 and the Caribbean.
01:36 The historic meeting in St. Vincent and the Grenadines last Thursday, December 14.
01:46 That day will go down in the history of the Venezuelan peaceful diplomacy as a day when
01:52 Venezuela's truth prevailed vis-à-vis Latin America and the Caribbean.
01:58 A day of triumph for Venezuela's truth, for our libertarian vocation and unionist spirit,
02:08 for our diplomatic capacity.
02:11 The Venezuelan President pointed out that it was fair and necessary to carry out the
02:14 consultative referendum so that citizens could take a stance on the future of Guayana and
02:19 Zequiba.
02:25 Which was the first direct impact of the consultative referendum of December the 3rd.
02:32 First impact that still has to be analyzed, especially by our people, in our families,
02:37 in our communities.
02:42 Later when you are playing dominoes, that's where the most precious and valuable analysis
02:46 is, the analysis of our people's conscience to know that we are moving forward, that it
02:55 was right and necessary to have the debate, to call for the referendum and for popular
03:04 sovereignty to set the terms of the future of the Guayana-Zequiba.
03:12 The Venezuelan President pointed out that a consensus was reached in St. Vincent and
03:16 the Grenadines thanks to the historic step taken by the people and the Bolivarian National
03:20 Armed Forces with the referendum of December 3rd.
03:26 Our Guild Agreement for Dialogue and Peace.
03:28 The title is conclusive.
03:30 For Dialogue and Peace.
03:31 And the communication should be read by all.
03:35 You have read it, right?
03:38 And was explained to the personnel.
03:40 Explained.
03:42 An agreement was reached that addresses this conjuncture, this situation.
03:50 So I can say to the people and to the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, thank you for the historic
03:57 step we took on December 3rd.
04:02 Thanks to the union of the people and the armed forces.
04:09 Thanks to the power of the public institutions, the electoral power.
04:18 The peace delegations of the Colombian Government and the National Liberation Army, ELN, met
04:23 in Mexico for the closing of the fifth cycle of dialogues.
04:26 After 13 days of talks, the ELN reportedly committed to suspend any kidnapping action
04:31 in order to guarantee peace in Colombia.
04:33 The closing ceremony of the dialogue cycle was presided over by the Mexican Minister
04:37 of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Barzana.
04:40 During her speech, she recalled the importance of this meeting not only for peace in Colombia,
04:44 but also for stability of the region.
04:50 On Sunday in Chile, people go to the polls for a second referendum on a proposed new
04:54 constitution drafted by the Constitutional Council.
04:57 Polling stations open at 8 o'clock in the morning and will close at 6 o'clock in the
05:01 evening local time.
05:02 Some 15.4 million voters, among them 127,552 residing in 65 countries, are qualified to
05:09 vote on this referendum to decide the latest version for a new Magna Carta drafted by the
05:14 Constitutional Council.
05:16 Electoral officials have urged people to exercise their vote in a peaceful manner without any
05:20 violent incidents, and they have also reminded people that those who may choose not to vote
05:26 are risking being fined anywhere from 32,000 to 192,000 pesos, equivalent to $37 and $221.
05:38 Also in Chile, since early Sunday morning, people have been going to police stations
05:41 to apologize for not voting in the constitutional referendum in a country where voting is mandatory.
05:47 This has been the case despite the fact that the law only extends from voting duty those
05:51 who may be out of the country, those living over 20 km away from polling stations, or
05:56 those having a serious impediment duly proven before a competent judge.
06:00 According to data provided by Chilean police, so far over 100,000 people have been excused
06:05 from taking part in this Sunday's referendum.

06:57 Welcome back from the South.
06:59 The Israeli occupation army is intensifying its operations against the civilian population
07:03 in Gaza.
07:04 According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, the occupation continues its siege of the hospitals
07:08 in Gaza.
07:09 The Health Ministry has denounced atrocities committed by the Tel Aviv forces during the
07:13 last few days, such as taking the wounded and medical personnel out of the hospitals.
07:18 It has also been reported that Israeli snipers destroyed the southern part of the Kamal Adwan
07:23 Hospital and fired at anyone moving inside the premises, preventing the entry and exit
07:27 of medical teams and displaced people.
07:30 The Israelis also shelled the Al-Zahaba Clinic, which at present is the only maternity clinic
07:34 in Gaza, and they have also attacked several ambulances transporting the injured.
07:43 In the wake of the Israeli genocide in Kamal Adwan Hospital, Palestinian authorities have
07:47 called for an investigation into the events.
07:50 Through eyewitnesses and journalists, they have been delving into the circumstances surrounding
07:54 the massacre.
08:00 After four days of the cutting of the network and internet here in southern Gaza, we are
08:05 back reporting about what is happening here on the ground.
08:09 Of course, the disturbing incident of what happened inside the Kamal Adwan Hospital,
08:14 the Palestinian Authority required an immediate investigation of what happened inside the
08:19 Kamal Adwan Hospital.
08:21 The Israeli bulldozers entered the hospital, crushed the bodies of Palestinians who were
08:25 inside the tents, and buried them alive.
08:29 Yes, this has happened, and journalists there in northern Gaza reported, eyewitnesses reported,
08:37 photos and videos were published of the scene.
08:40 Now Kamal Adwan Hospital is the only hospital that was operating in northern Gaza.
08:45 It shut down.
08:47 There is only one hospital that is operating for northern Gaza and central Gaza, which
08:52 is the Ash Shifa Hospital.
08:54 Medical sources inside the Ash Shifa Hospital since this morning said that 50 people were
08:59 killed and arrived to the hospital.
09:02 They also added that paramedics could not even reach the other bodies of people that
09:07 were killed around and in northern Gaza and middle Gaza, central Gaza over the past hours.
09:15 Here in southern Gaza, the Israeli warplanes continue striking several places, residential
09:21 homes, streets, farms, and Rafah and Khan Younis in Deir el-Balah.
09:26 Only here in Deir el-Balah and since the morning, 12 people were killed.
09:31 Nurhar Rezin, Telesur, Gaza.
09:34 The Palestinian Red Crescent denounced the onset of a famine of great proportions in
09:38 the Gaza Strip due to the lack of food caused by the blockade and the Israeli attacks.
09:42 Red Crescent representatives regretted that Gaza currently depends entirely on humanitarian
09:46 aid, which, in spite of efforts by many countries, is still insufficient and delayed to tend
09:51 to all those affected due to the blockades of Tel Aviv.
09:54 In recent days, the World Food Program revealed that half of the population in Gaza is starving.
09:58 The Palestinian Red Crescent has also warned about the potential occurrence of an epidemic,
10:03 as many people are sleeping on the streets amid a fertile environment for the rapid spread
10:07 of disease.
10:08 The Lebanese Resistance Hezbollah carried out operations against the Israeli occupation
10:16 forces stationed in the western sector of the border.
10:20 In a release statement, Hezbollah confirmed it had attacked a bunker where Israeli soldiers
10:24 were deployed in response to Israeli bombardments in the south of the country and in support
10:29 of the people of Palestine.
10:31 According to the statement, the action was carried out with appropriate weapons and caused
10:34 injuries in the ranks of the Tel Aviv Armed Forces.
10:38 The Lebanese Resistance also reported an operation against an Israeli military force in the vicinity
10:43 of Hanita position.
10:44 On the other hand, the Tel Aviv fighter jets attacked the eastern outskirts of the city
10:49 of Bleda and five others.
10:55 In Syria, authorities report looting of wheat, barley and oil by the U.S. occupation in warehouses
11:00 located in the town of al-Jarubiha.
11:03 Authorities near the border with Iraq report that a U.S. convoy of 55 trucks loaded with
11:08 wheat, barley and oil entered Iraqi territory through the illegal Al-Walid crossing, in
11:13 addition to at least 40 tanker trucks loaded with crude oil from the oil fields driven
11:18 to the U.S. bases located in Iraqi territory.
11:20 It should be noted that Syria produced, until 2011, more than 380,000 barrels of oil to
11:26 cover the domestic market of wheat.
11:28 The figures decreased after the constant U.S. looting.
11:40 In Egypt, a group of four European lawmakers called on Sunday for a ceasefire in Gaza following
11:44 the trip to the Rafah crossing to see how European aid is helping Palestinians.
11:49 Lawmakers from France, Sweden and Ireland, affiliated to the Centre's parliamentary
11:53 group Green New Europe, are among those participating in the call.
11:56 Christophe Guttler, French lawmaker and head of the delegation, said progress is being
12:00 made on the idea of a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, while Abiraz Salami, a Swedish lawmaker,
12:06 said a ceasefire is urgently needed to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
12:10 Al-Salami also called for pressure to be put on both sides in the war, particularly Prime
12:14 Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right government, and called on the United States
12:18 to join European calls for a ceasefire.
12:24 We found out that no matter how much we are going to send, it doesn't matter because there
12:29 is no ceasefire and there is no security.
12:32 As long as there are bombs, Israeli bombs falling on the Palestinian people, the aid
12:38 won't do its job.
12:40 We might, you know, give the food and they will be for a while, you know, full, but then
12:47 they go out and they stay at home and they will be killed by the Israeli bombs.
12:53 Indonesians took to the streets to show their rejection of the United States and Israel
12:56 following the genocide unleashed in Gaza.
12:59 About 3,000 demonstrators reportedly filled the center of Jakarta, in front of the guarded
13:03 U.S. embassy carrying Palestinian and Indonesian flags.
13:07 The protest was organized by the Indonesian Council of Mass Organizations, a Muslim conservative
13:12 forum which urged Israel to stop its attacks against the Palestinians with chants.
13:17 The rally began after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday that Tel
13:22 Aviv was committed to war against Hamas.
13:25 This is a way of concern for our family, the Palestinians, because this is a humanitarian
13:32 issue which is a global issue that we should all care about.
13:36 Until now, physical colonialism throughout the world no longer exists except for Palestinians.
13:42 So we have to fight this because it is contrary to human rights.
13:46 This is certain because it is explained in the Koran that Palestinians will be free,
13:52 so we continue to enthusiastically speak out for them.
13:56 Freedom for the Palestinians.

14:39 Welcome back from the South.
14:40 In Serbia, more than six million citizens are called to the polls to vote in Sunday's
14:45 early parliamentary elections, where 8,000 polling stations open their doors at 7 a.m.
14:49 local time.
14:50 In these early elections, voters elect deputies to fill the 250 seats in parliament for a
14:55 term of four years.
14:56 Serbians also hold elections for the Assembly of the Northern Region of Vojvodina, as well
15:00 as municipal elections in Belgrade and 64 other towns.
15:05 Polling stations are expected to close at 8 p.m. local time, with early results expected
15:09 to be announced a few hours later.
15:15 Serbian citizens voice the importance of voting as a way to achieve the changes that society
15:20 wants to see.
15:21 You know, we all hope for something better.
15:25 We'll see what happens.
15:27 I think individually we can't do much.
15:30 But if everybody decides the same thing, something will come about.
15:34 So the decision is up to us.
15:37 I think it is time for Serbia to go full steam ahead.
15:41 This means it should focus on youth, young people, education, and of course, discipline.
15:48 On Sunday, Chad citizens went to the polls to vote in a referendum for a new constitution.
15:53 This is a crucial stepping stone towards scheduled elections next year, which could return the
15:58 country to civilian rule.
15:59 Mahamad Idris Deby was declared the head of state after his father's death in April 2021.
16:03 Instead of following the Chadian constitution's line of succession, opposition political parties
16:08 at the time called the handover a coup d'état, but later agreed to accept Deby as interim
16:13 leader for 18 months.
16:15 However, last year the government announced it was extending the transition for two more
16:18 years, which led to protests across the country.
16:21 The new constitution proposes a decentralized state.
16:24 If it's accepted, elections should take place in October 2024.
16:28 If it's rejected, there's likely a new referendum that will have to take place.
16:35 In Sudan, fighting between the army and the rapid support forces reached the city of Wat
16:39 Madani, where displaced people from the capital Khartoum had come in search of safe shelters.
16:45 According to information from the Norwegian Refugee Council, Wat Madani should not be
16:48 affected by the civil war in Sudan due to its dense population of 700,000 inhabitants
16:53 and the 84,000 other refugees hosted in the region.
16:57 In this regard, the entity pointed out that the city is a place of refuge for displaced
17:01 people from Khartoum, including for humanitarian and medical evacuations.
17:06 Civilians started to flee to neighboring states with Sudan, where their population is overbordened
17:11 and with scarce resources.
17:17 In Canada, authorities are on alert following the death of at least six people and more
17:21 than 150 confirmed salmonella cases.
17:24 Canada's public health agency confirmed the presence of the bacteria in eight provinces,
17:29 including British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, with Quebec
17:34 reporting the highest number of cases.
17:36 The majority of those affected are children and senior citizens, who were infected between
17:41 mid-October and the end of November of this year.
17:49 In Spain, a collision between two passenger trains in Malaga injured 13 people.
17:53 The accident occurred between the routes covering Sevilla and Malaga, as a result of the impact
17:57 amount of streetcars overturned.
17:59 The more than 250 passengers traveling on board both trains were evacuated in the vicinity
18:05 of the region.
18:06 The railway management company reported that the railway infrastructure manager, staff
18:10 and mechanics are working on the repair of the railway units.
18:18 Hundreds of cyclists dressed as Santa Claus cycled through the streets of Rome's historic
18:22 centre on Sunday to raise money for charity.
18:24 The Santa's parade started from the Coliseum, passed through the Imperial Forum, Piazza
18:29 Venezia, Via del Corso, the main shopping streets in the centre of Rome, and finally
18:33 arrived in the characteristic district of Trastevere.
18:36 The aim of the event was to raise funds for La Casa de Peter Pan, or Peter Pan's House,
18:41 a charity project that offers help and support to children with cancer and their families.
