00:00 How's it going everybody? Randall Sweet, AllSooners.com, here to talk more about OU's 2024 signing class.
00:06 We're going to talk about Reggie Powers, the safety from Dayton, Ohio.
00:09 Now Powers hails from Centerville High School in Dayton, Ohio, where he's rated a four-star recruit, number
00:14 166 overall player, and the number 12 safety in the 2024 class, according to 24/7 Sports. If you remember,
00:21 Powers was committed to Michigan State up until
00:25 around the middle of September when he decommitted and decided to take a look around at his other offers.
00:30 Powers did have an offer from Ohio State,
00:32 ended up choosing the Sooners over Ohio State, which is a good get for Brent Venables and company. If you'll remember, Powers did
00:38 commit to OU during that Kansas game, which I know is a bit of a dark spot for OU fans,
00:43 but again, his commitment makes it a little bit brighter. Now listed at 6'1", 200 pounds,
00:49 Powers is a really versatile defensive back.
00:52 He's got the ability to play in the box and play coverage on the back end. His size, his physicality,
00:58 he loves to run down and hit people and run defense, lend themselves really well to him playing as a box safety role.
01:03 But again, he's got the speed, the athleticism that he needs to play on the back end, especially in a conference like the SEC,
01:10 where those receivers will be a little bit bigger.
01:12 They'll need a player of his size, his stature, with again the athleticism to be able to play out there on
01:20 the back end. And Powers is the highest rated defensive back commit in OU's 2024 class.
01:25 So again, great get for Brandon Hall, JVLI getting him away from
01:30 his home state of Ohio State, over the Buckeyes.
