00:00 Hey everyone, how's it going?
00:01 Randall Sweet, AllSooners.com here to talk to you about Taylor Tatum, another member
00:05 of OU's 2024 signing class here on National Signing Day.
00:09 Now Taylor Tatum is the number one running back in the country.
00:12 It's a huge get for DeMarco Murray and company, especially after him narrowing his top two
00:18 schools down to USC and Oklahoma.
00:19 I know OU fans were very happy to get one of the top running backs in the country, especially
00:25 over such a high powered offense like USC.
00:29 But this is a guy who can play in the slot, who can play in the backfield and be equally
00:33 as effective in both areas.
00:35 If you watch his high school tape, he beats people down the field as a slot receiver.
00:39 He tracks the ball really well and really he's a decent route runner for a guy who's
00:43 a high school running back.
00:45 And again, in the modern era of football, you need those guys who are versatile who
00:49 can do both.
00:50 Now, Taylor Tatum coming out of the backfield, he's got speed, he's got power, he's got great
00:55 vision, just really everything you want, everything you'd expect a top tier running back to have.
00:59 Now, Taylor Tatum is also coming to OU to play baseball.
01:03 So that's maybe where some of that tracking ability as a receiver comes into play and
01:07 being an outfielder.
01:08 Again, you can see some of that power that he displays as a runner when he's at the plate,
01:13 knocks some home runs over the fence.
01:15 I think that Skip Johnson was very happy to get him in his signing day class as well.
01:19 But Taylor Tatum is a guy who, another guy who I think, like David Stone, who we talked
01:23 about earlier, can challenge for playing time early in his career in Norman.
01:27 He's been a very accomplished high school player coming from Longview, Texas.
01:32 He's standing at about 5'10", 205 pounds right now, a guy who will get even more built out
01:37 when he gets to work with Jerry Schmidt, OU's strength and conditioning coach.
01:41 But Taylor Tatum, very, very talented running back and a guy who, again, I feel like I've
01:47 said this multiple times, will challenge for playing time early in his career.
01:51 OU's running back room is a little bit thin and he's just got so much talent that I would
01:56 not be surprised to come in and see him take command.
01:58 Maybe not as a freshman, maybe as a sophomore, but I do think that he'll factor into the
02:02 rotation as a freshman.
