Oklahoma DB commit Devon Jordan signs with the Sooners.

00:00 How's it going, everybody?
00:01 Randall Sweet, Allstudents.com, here to talk more about OU's 2024 recruiting class.
00:06 I'm going to talk about Devon Jordan, a local prospect from up north in Tulsa Union.
00:12 And again, a guy from Tulsa Union, one of those high-end programs in Oklahoma, really
00:16 one of the top in the state and in the region.
00:19 They always have had some pretty successful teams.
00:22 They put guys through to Norman, obviously, another defensive back, Pat Fields from the
00:27 2018 class, and so Devon Jordan is the latest Red Hawk to follow in that line.
00:34 He's about 6 foot, 170 pounds.
00:37 He's got a slight frame that, of course, you can add more muscle to once he gets into the
00:40 weight room with Jerry Schmidt.
00:42 I think that that'll really help him in his run defense because he's not afraid to do
00:45 that right now, but once he gets a little bigger, I think he'll have really the nose
00:51 and the size to go up there and knock some dudes around in run defense.
00:54 But right now, he's a really, really fast player who can run down the field with top-end
00:59 wide receivers, really.
01:00 I mean, he ran a 10.71 in the 100-meter dash, which is really fast.
01:04 I think he did that as a junior in high school.
01:07 And so again, he's been battle-tested against some of these top-tier receivers.
01:11 If you'll remember, Lee Summit North actually went to Union for a scrimmage, and he was
01:16 matched up with Isaiah Mazzie, got a few one-on-one reps with him.
01:20 And I think that both of those guys took their turn winning some of those reps, which that's
01:23 going to happen whenever you're going up against one of the top receivers in that class, if
01:28 you're Devon Jordan.
01:29 So this season, he wasn't thrown out very much.
01:31 I think that's a testament to just how good of a cover man he was.
01:34 Quarterbacks knew not to throw in his direction.
01:36 Receivers weren't open very often.
01:37 There wasn't a big window.
01:39 So I think that those cover skills are what JV Lai really covets.
01:41 I think that he hopes that Devon Jordan can bring those same coverage skills, that same
01:46 speed that he had in high school, to Norman.
