00:00 How's it going everybody?
00:01 Randall Sweet, All Sooners.com, here to talk more about OU's 2024 recruiting class.
00:07 I'm going to talk about Ivan Carreon, one of the Sooners' talented wide receivers in
00:11 this 2024 class.
00:12 As you know, Emmitt Jones was able to get a handful of talented guys into this class.
00:16 Yvonne Carreon is the second highest rated of all of them behind Zion Kearney.
00:20 He's rated the number 218 overall prospect in the country.
00:24 Hailing from Odessa, Texas, he was originally committed to Emmitt Jones and Company when
00:28 Emmitt Jones was at Texas Tech.
00:30 Now, he's 6'6", about 195 pounds, so he's got a great frame for a wide receiver.
00:36 I was able to get out and see him play this year, and I originally, going into the game,
00:41 thought that he would be more of a possession receiver, but I was surprised that he was
00:46 able to do both.
00:47 He was a good possession receiver and a good vertical threat.
00:50 His first touchdown of the game, he was able to just use his speed to run right by a defender,
00:55 and a quarterback hit him on a ball over the shoulder into the end zone for a touchdown.
00:59 A second touchdown, he caught about a 10-15 yard pass, broke a couple tackles, and housed
01:03 it 80 yards in.
01:04 And then the rest of the game, he was really able to use his long arms, his big frame to
01:09 kind of box out defenders, catch passes over the middle of the field.
01:12 It felt like every time he got the ball, it was a 10-15 yard gain just because he knew
01:16 how to use his size to get open in the short to intermediate areas of the field, which
01:21 again, that's going to be super important in any offense, but having that 6'6" wide
01:25 receiver, especially if you can put him and a tight end on the field, it's just going
01:28 to give the Sooners a lot of really good size mismatches.
01:33 And again, Yvonne is a guy who's really athletic.
01:35 He's not just a 6'6" frame out there.
01:38 He's a guy who ran the hurdles in track and did quite well, advanced through into the
01:43 state meet, and again, he's a basketball player as well.
01:45 So multiple sport athlete, good athlete, even at 6'6", nearly 200 pounds, working with Jerry
01:51 Schmidt is going to do wonders for him, and he's got the chance to be a really good wide
01:54 receiver at OU in the same mold as a Jaden Gibson.
