00:00 Good evening. Things will slowly start to improve for the next few days or so at least
00:04 as Storm Gerrit moves away slowly but surely. But we've still got low pressure in charge
00:10 so some further unsettled wet and windy weather to come. We'll see these occluded fronts move
00:14 through on Friday bringing bands of showers before this ridge of higher pressure develops
00:19 for a time on Saturday. So not a bad start to Saturday potentially before things deteriorate
00:24 as this next air of low pressure moves in. This could be another stormy spell but the
00:29 strongest winds are expected to affect the Republic of Ireland this time. However, there'll
00:34 probably be some wet and windy weather through much of Saturday afternoon. Through the rest
00:38 of the evening though we'll see continued showers across many northern areas of the
00:42 UK. We've got a northerly wind starting to develop across the far north of Scotland and
00:47 as those showers bump into that cold air we'll continue to see some snow falling over the
00:51 hills at first over eastern areas of Scotland but to lower levels by tomorrow morning. Further
00:56 south we'll see clear spells but with the strength of the breeze that will mean that
01:00 it'll be another mild start to the day tomorrow. Potentially a sunnier start for Wales and
01:05 many central and eastern areas of England but the sunshine will likely turn a little
01:10 bit hazier by the afternoon and showers will quickly develop from the west once again.
01:15 The winds won't be quite as strong so in any sunshine you do see, particularly across eastern
01:19 areas of the UK, it won't feel too bad. However, we're starting to see this colder air push
01:24 further south into more central and southern areas of Scotland, northeastern Scotland,
01:29 England as well, also seeing that colder air so there will be quite a chilly feel to things
01:34 across these areas by tomorrow morning and persistent rain will continue to move in through
01:38 much of the day and into the evening across parts of Northern Ireland, north-western England
01:43 and parts of south-west Scotland too. Could see some snow over the Pennines as well for
01:48 a time but for many of us it should dry out through the course of Friday night and that
01:53 could lead to quite a frosty night, particularly where we have any lying snow and lighter winds
01:58 across parts of Scotland, north-eastern England too, but many southern areas seeing quite
02:02 a chilly start to the day on Saturday. But again, some sunshine to be had so not a bad
02:08 day to get up early and enjoy some of the brighter weather. Because things will change
02:13 through the course of the day as this next area of low pressure pushes in from the west,
02:17 it'll bring a narrow band of rain but quite a gusty band of rain and as that rain moves
02:21 up into Scotland into that colder air we could see some further sleet and snow. So there's
02:25 potential for some further travel disruption through the course of Saturday so if you are
02:30 travelling, moving about on Saturday it's worth keeping up to date with the details
02:35 on that one and checking before you travel. So some further disruptive weather potentially
02:39 on Saturday, New Year's Eve looks like another blustery day but New Year's Day we could see
02:44 some drier and colder weather. That's all for now and I'll see you later.
