01:47 Comrades when I entered Morehouse College as a freshman, I was anything but a stellar
01:54 student.
01:57 Focus was not my friend and discipline was a distant stranger.
02:05 After my first week I received a care package from my parents.
02:09 The care package only had three things in it.
02:13 The first was a book entitled The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.
02:22 If you have not read it going into the new year, I want you to have this book.
02:26 It is going to help you to navigate some things in 2024.
02:32 The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.
02:39 Under that book in that same box was a compilation disc called The Classical Masterpieces by
02:48 the London Philharmonic Orchestra which held some of the finest selections from Mozart,
02:55 Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn.
03:02 It was a note inside of it from my parents, Bishop John and Reverend Cecilia Bryant, that
03:08 said we are praying for you, we believe in you, listen to this music as you study.
03:19 It will help you.
03:22 Initially I did not think anything about it, but after a couple of weeks I am working on
03:29 a composition and it is just not coming together.
03:33 I pop in that CD and played Handel's Zadok the Priest.
03:40 Playing Handel's Zadok the Priest I began to write feverishly and beginning to write
03:47 I had no pause.
03:49 I am beginning to write classical music in the background, ideas just started pouring
03:56 out, concepts started connecting.
04:01 As long as I played it I was glued to the paper and I was not tempted to divert my attention
04:08 to frivolous activities.
04:11 Unbeknownst to me at 18 years of age I was experiencing something I want you to write
04:16 down is called the Mozart Effect.
04:21 The Mozart Effect which is the theory that listening to classical music will improve
04:29 spatial learning.
04:32 Listening to classical music will improve spatial learning and increase your IQ, albeit
04:40 temporarily.
04:43 From my freshman year of college even to this day while I am writing sermons I am listening
04:47 to classical music.
04:50 In this season you need to hear something so that next year you can make some smarter
04:55 decisions, make some better choices and maintain pure thoughts.
05:04 Because whatever you were listening to last year you are going to have to take it off
05:10 of repeat.
05:12 You cannot afford to make the same decisions and to think at the exact same level.
05:21 Scholars at the University of Central Florida have curated a class entitled Music on the
05:27 Brain.
05:29 Music on the Brain which explores how music impacts brain function and human behavior.
05:39 Music impacts your brain function and your behavior.
05:44 They discovered that listening to classical music reduces stress, listening to it reduces
05:52 pain and even reduces symptoms of depression as well as improves both cognitive and motor
06:03 skills.
06:04 There are studies at the University of Central Florida additionally found that listening
06:10 to classical music can retard neurodegenerative diseases.
06:17 Listening to classical music will stop and slow down Alzheimer's.
06:24 Listening to classical music, here it is, will steady those who are afflicted with Parkinson's.
06:32 They did a study at the University of Central Florida how that those who are listening to
06:37 classical music when they gave them an MRI their brains begin to light up.
06:44 And when their brains begin to light up it ignites creativity.
06:51 Listening to classical music, here it is, ignites new concepts, new inventions, new
06:59 patterns, new ideas, a different level of artistry and innovation.
07:08 And I speak over every person who can hear my voice today that your mind is about to

07:42 I speak to the mind of every person who is in this room that whatever was in your mind
07:49 that told you it could not happen, God is getting ready to silent the voices that are
07:56 in your head that Jesus said let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.
08:05 I speak over every mind that is in this place.
08:09 Get ready for new ideas to come into your mind.
08:13 I'm talking to somebody, get ready for God to give you concepts that you never thought
08:18 about, getting ready to give you pathways that you didn't even know existed, getting
08:23 ready to give you a blueprint on how to get out of the slump that you are in right now.
08:29 The enemy has been trying to take your mind.
08:33 The enemy don't care about your house, he don't care about your money, he don't care
08:38 about your car, he's been trying to get your mind.
08:43 But I declare your mind is about to be set free.
08:49 That God is getting ready to open up new possibilities that eyes have not seen and ears have not
08:58 heard.
08:59 I think I'm talking to the wrong crowd.
09:01 I don't even speak it to you.
09:03 I speak to the minds of your children that math will not be an issue, that science will
09:12 not be an issue, that English will not be an issue.
09:17 People are looking at me like God won't open your mind.
09:21 God said while I am opening your mind, I am opening up doors.
09:26 While I am opening up mind, I am opening up creativity.
09:32 While I am opening up mind, I am silencing generational curses.

10:07 Because he's been trying to touch your mind.

10:12 Whatever it is that you were thinking about that robbed you of sleep last night, he's

10:21 Whatever it is that convinced you out of your past that you would not be an achiever, he
10:26 is about to touch your mind.
10:29 Every excuse that society gave you as to why it is that you're not going to go over the
10:34 finish line, he's about to touch your mind.
10:39 I want you all over this room, those of you who are online, I want you to lay hands on

11:37 Please forgive me, this ain't for everybody, but I declare over you, your book is going
11:41 to be finished this year.
11:44 Your business is going to open this year.
11:48 Multiple streams of income are getting ready to hit your house this year.
11:53 I speak of every person, this ain't for you, maybe it's for your grandchildren, that there
11:57 will be no difficulty in learning for the children in your family.
12:02 I speak to every learning disorder, to every behavior disorder, to every dysfunction of
12:09 the brain.
12:10 I can't hear nobody.
12:11 He said if you open up your mouth, I stop brain cancer, I stop clots of blood, I cancel
12:19 out autism in the name of Jesus.
12:22 He said if you open up your mouth, no ADD, no PTSD, no childhood trauma.
12:30 Your mind is going to be free.

12:41 That's why my grandmother said I woke up this morning if my mind stayed on Jesus.

12:53 This helps me then to better understand the psychosis of Saul, who got it literally out
13:02 of the mud from obscurity to authority.
13:06 As the very first king of Israel, his trail to the throne was topsy-turvy, because if
13:15 you can imagine it, he's named king and he never campaigned.
13:22 He's named king and he never prayed for it.
13:25 It's just thrust upon him.
13:28 He has publicly announced that he is going to be king, and he is publicly anointed to
13:39 be king, and he has detractors from people who are anointed.
13:48 God said he would be king, and there are people in the camp who have a problem with an assignment
13:55 he never asked for.
13:58 They want to kill him, and he never prayed for it.
14:03 To add insult to injury, nobody from his family showed up for his elevation.
14:10 Everybody in this room know what it's like to be elevated and frustrated, to have fanfare
14:20 but no support, to be ridiculed for something you took reluctantly.
14:29 If you don't safeguard your mind, the devil will make you ask yourself, "What did I do?"
14:36 If you're not careful, those thoughts will eat you alive.
14:43 They'll have you up at night, staring into the distance.
14:49 You are playing the blues because people are green with envy.
14:57 But God had you here this last Sunday just to announce to you that the tune is about
15:02 to change, that what they thought about you last year has absolutely nothing to do with
15:10 what God is going to do for you next year.
15:14 I can't hear any worshipers.
15:15 I said the tune is about to change.
15:19 You are no longer going to be crying yourself to sleep.
15:22 This is not going to be another lonely Christmas.
15:25 I can't hear nobody, but I'm telling you joy bells are about to start ringing in your soul.
15:31 You get better to operate in a peace that passes all understanding.
15:39 First Samuel chapter 14 verse 52, First Samuel 14 verse 52 says, "All the days of Saul there
15:48 was a bitter war."
15:50 Can you imagine?
15:51 He had no warfare.
15:52 Y'all ain't going to believe it.
15:55 He had no warfare until he's anointed.
16:01 From the moment that he is anointed for the rest of his life, he's just got battle after
16:06 battle.
16:07 He has to fight the Ammonites, has to fight the Moabites, has to fight the Edomites, has
16:12 to fight the Philistines, all because there's an anointing on his life.
16:17 It's a terrible thing to be anointed and always have to be on defense.
16:26 You don't know nothing about this.
16:27 I'm talking to the person behind you.
16:29 Do you know what it's like to have to fight the same people you forgave?
16:38 Y'all don't know nothing about it.
16:39 That the folk who are trying to murder you are the people you gave mercy to?
16:46 It is what psychologists call combat trauma.
16:53 Combat trauma.
16:54 You were just so drained from having to fight.
16:57 You were so depleted from having to always defend your name.
17:02 You have become so fatigued from always having to over explain what people took out of context.
17:10 When you've witnessed so much death, so much destruction, so much duplicitousness, so much
17:17 devastation and so much darkness, you think you're going to go through all of that in
17:22 23 and it not have a toll on your thinking?
17:28 People don't know with all that you have seen, with all that you have heard, with all that
17:34 you have experienced, it has got you in a mood.
17:40 It's got you in a mood and you don't look up and don't even realize that you go through
17:44 mood swings without any warning.
17:48 With everything that you've gone through, folk that don't understand your testimony,
17:52 they don't understand why you stay to yourself.
17:56 They have no idea why you will slip into a dark place while watching TV.
18:01 I can't hear nobody.
18:03 Folk that don't understand how many knives you put out of your back don't know why you
18:08 don't like going nowhere, why you are fine at your house.
18:13 Y'all ain't saying nothing.
18:14 I got to keep text messages just in case you flip out and act like you didn't say what
18:20 you said to me.
18:25 Don't understand why you don't return phone calls.
18:29 They don't understand why you declined invitations.
18:32 They don't understand why you don't like being around a bunch of people who you don't know.
18:38 You are just not in the mood for none of it.
18:42 You try to be cordial, you try to be polite, you try to be nice.
18:47 Y'all ain't saying nothing, but it don't take much to trigger me.
18:50 If I feel like you coming at me sideways, if I sense you got a little shade on what
18:58 you saying, if I believe that I can't trust you, I will shut down in a heartbeat and you

19:21 David Grossman wrote a book on killing and it speaks to the character disorder.
19:30 There's a character disorder on wearied soldiers.
19:35 You know you are a wearied soldier when you become fixated on people's opinion, when you
19:43 are preoccupied with actions that didn't even have an impact on you.
19:51 You become paranoid and you don't know what's coming behind you.
19:57 You don't even understand how it is that you wrestle with anxiety and depression.
20:03 You don't know why it is that you are flanked by hypersensitivity.
20:09 You have episodes of rage and you have an experience of a complete altering of your
20:14 personality.
20:17 That was on Saul.
20:20 And in fact, that's on a lot of people who's sitting on your road today, who living in
20:27 your house right now.
20:29 Let me warn you that you can't go into a new year with that level of heaviness.
20:35 God, I can't hear nobody.
20:38 And whenever that spirit got on Saul, the Lord sent David.
20:45 He didn't tell David to rap.
20:47 He didn't tell David, y'all ain't saying nothing to go into praise and worship.
20:51 He said, David, get on your harp and just start playing classical music.
20:58 Saul ain't saying nothing because the spirit that is on him, I got to get it off of him
21:03 in order for him to rule.
21:06 I am not talking about the people who are around you.
21:09 I am not talking about your coworkers.
21:11 I'm talking about the spirit that has been attached to you in 2023.
21:17 I need you to lift up that hand.
21:19 God says, as the music plays, this is only for anointed people.
21:26 As the music plays, God says, I am taking that spirit off of you.
21:33 The spirit of anger, the spirit of jealousy, the spirit of suicide, the spirit of resignation,
21:42 the spirit of self doubt, the spirit of rejection, the spirit of misery.
21:48 God says, I don't want you to go in 2024 feeling like you done felt the last 12 months and
21:56 a year, but I break the spirit of heaviness of every person that is on your row.
22:03 Those of you that have not been feeling like yourself, I dare you to open up your mouth
22:09 and give God a sound of glory like you can't go on feeling like this.
