Will recession concerns overrule Tesla's demand vs. supply advantage?

For Tesla, it has always been more demand than supply.

Dan thinks that Tesla dominating the supercharging station for EVs is giving them an advantage over other EVs.

Dan also thinks if we have a recession and crude oil comes in, there will be less demand in the near term.

00:00 I think the other question Dan is for Tesla it's always been more demand than supply.
00:06 If we are going into a recession, depending on what that looks like, will that still be
00:10 the case for Tesla?
00:12 They've never had to really worry about demand, but there's a lot of competition.
00:15 It's funny on the high end you would say they don't have to worry about demand because that
00:19 consumer is doing a bit better, but that's where a lot of the competition is coming on.
00:22 All the Germans, all the Japanese, they all have high end.
00:24 I mean they're all there.
00:26 And if you put these things, you stack them up, you want to take the Tesla Plaid at $140
00:30 versus a Porsche Taycan, I mean 9 out of 10 people are going to take that.
00:34 I'm just telling you, like matter of fact, I do these at every dinner I am.
00:37 I'm just telling you.
00:39 What's the price of the Porsche?
00:40 They're like the same price.
00:41 You know what I mean?
00:42 And so here's the issue, and I say this all the time, you know, I had an EV, I had the
00:45 Ford Mach-E, I had to give it back because, well, I had to take a loss on it.
00:48 It's a great car and it's a great car versus the low end Tesla stuff.
00:52 I think the service is going to be much better.
00:54 The problem is, is the supercharging station build out.
00:58 It's not there yet for anything other than Tesla.
01:00 And that right now is going to give them that advantage on either one of those price ranges.
01:05 But your point about the recession, I mean, listen, at the end of the day, if we have
01:08 a recession and crude oil comes in, I just think that you're going to see less demand
01:12 in the near term until there's more optionality away from Tesla for these things.
01:17 So I go back to that visibility on the back half of this year.
01:20 You know, we've all been around long enough.
01:22 When you start hearing companies talk about, you know, second half loaded sort of stuff,
01:25 it doesn't make you feel good about the guidance that they're giving right now.
