00:00The KL High Court was told on Monday that there has never been evidence that showed
00:06former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was at M. Islamic Bank Berhad to commit the
00:12crime he's accused of.
00:15Najib's lead counsel, Tan Sri Mohammed Shafi Abdullah, submitted that the prosecution never
00:20showed evidence that the former Pekan MP was present at the bank in Jalan Raja Chulan anywhere
00:26between February 24 and June 14, 2011, to abuse his official position.
00:33The first charge against Najib states that he allegedly used his position as Prime Minister,
00:39Finance Minister, and Chairman of the 1MDB Advisory Board at M. Islamic Bank.
00:45Mohammed Shafi, who was making his submissions at the 2.28 billion ringgit 1MDB trial, said
00:52the charge against his client was defective and fundamentally flawed.
00:56The lawyer said Najib had never seen the M-Bank building, nor had he set foot in there.
01:01He also said his client's lack of presence at the place where the offense was allegedly
01:06committed confused the defense, and the prejudice against Najib caused the 1MDB trial to last
01:13six years.
01:14Najib is on trial for 25 charges in total, four for abuse of power that allegedly brought
01:20him the financial benefit to the tune of 2.28 billion ringgit, and 21 for money laundering
01:26involving the same amount of money.
01:29The hearing before Justice Colin Lawrence Sequeira continues on Tuesday.
