The Great North Run 2024 ballot is open - here's where to enter

00:00 The ballot for the Great North Run 2024 is officially open as of January 8th.
00:04 The iconic half marathon, which begins in Newcastle and ends by the coast in South Shields,
00:10 will be back on the streets of the North East on Sunday, September 8th.
00:13 It's a 13.1 mile route and with 60,000 entrants, the event continues to be the UK's biggest running event
00:19 and the world's biggest half marathon.
00:22 Many will be taking part to support good causes,
00:24 raising an estimated £25 million in charitable donations.
00:28 The event is broadcast live on the BBC and to 169 territories around the world,
00:34 showcasing the best of the region nationally and internationally.
00:37 2023 saw the event touched by the effects of the global climate crisis.
00:42 It marked the hottest Great North Run on record
00:44 and ended the day with severe flooding, leaving many runners stranded.
00:48 The 2023 event saw Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe officially starting the race.
00:52 It also marked the last race for athlete Sir Mo Farah before his retirement.
00:57 The ballot is open until 10am on Monday, February 12th.
