Labour: We support action taken on Houthi rebels
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer comments on the prime minister’s decision to join forces with the US to launch strikes against Houthi rebels, after a number of drone and missile attacks were carried out in the Red Sea. 00:05 It's clear that for some time now they've been carrying out attacks on shipping,
00:10 commercial shipping in the Red Sea, putting civilian lives at risk as well as
00:15 disrupting international trade and traffic and shipping.
00:20 And so we support this action.
00:23 Obviously, you know, we need the Prime Minister to make a full statement to Parliament,
00:28 but we're fully supportive of the action that's needed to stop these attacks taking place.
00:34 I want the Prime Minister to make a statement as soon as possible, but
00:38 the principle of taking action against the Houthi rebels is really important.
00:44 The attacks they've been carrying out are against commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
00:49 They are putting civilian lives at risk and disrupting that traffic through the Red Sea,
00:55 traffic that is vital for the world economy.
00:58 So we support the action that the government has taken.
