Martin Dempster reports from Dubai as the golf season gets into full swing.
Transcript
00:00 Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from
00:06 the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, the second leg of a Dubai doubleheader to start 2024
00:16 on the DP World Tour. The first leg was the inaugural Dubai Invitational at Dubai Creek,
00:23 where Tommy Fleetwood finished birdie-birdie to finish a shot ahead of Rory McIlroy, who
00:31 led by a shot, standing on the last tee, only to put his tee shot in the water and finish
00:38 with a five, which proved to be costly. Rory, though, was quite upbeat in terms of what
00:44 he produced over the four days in that event, and now he's the defending champion in the
00:50 second leg, which of course is the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. It's the 35th staging of this
00:58 event, one of the most iconic events on the DP World Tour. The back drop behind me is
01:06 one of the reasons for that. And it's played on a great golf course, the Majulus at Emirates
01:13 Golf Club, where the organisers just continue to raise the bar in terms of everything they
01:21 deliver with this event. We've got nine Scots in the field this week, including Stephen
01:26 Gallagher, a double winner, and this is the 10th anniversary of Stephen landing this coveted
01:35 title for a second time. The Open champion, Brian Harman, is also in the field. As is
01:42 Tyrrell Hatton, a member of Europe's Winning Rider Cup team, and of course, already mentioned,
01:49 Marco Roy and Tommy Fleetwood, who's based in Dubai, is also in the field. To keep up
01:55 to date with everything about the event, either buy the Scotsman or log on to Scotsman.com.
