00:00 Yes and welcome back to South Australia. It's day two of the opening world tour
00:04 cycle race of the year as we face up to stage two from Norwood to Lobethal
00:10 very shortly and there he is signing on right now. And I don't expect today's
00:14 stage is going to be one they're going to target for him it is the hilliest
00:17 stage of the tour.
00:25 Head on a swivel always looking over his left shoulder just keeping across
00:30 right here comes the acceleration now from van der Lee he's got the jump and
00:34 Burns missed it. He should have expected it. He's still got a chance. No he's not
00:40 going to get over the top of van der Lee here. So the Dutchman more explosive on
00:47 that final steep pinch up to the line gets the better of Burns so he'll take
00:52 maximum points. Well here we are in the centre of Woodstock looking for the line
00:57 and a small prize and three seconds time bonus for the first man across.
01:03 Finn Fischer-Black has gone off the back here and looks so he's coming through on
01:07 the left right in the centre and they've gone over the top of him. A bit surprised
01:10 about that. He doesn't proclaim to be a great sprinter but he won it yesterday
01:15 in the opening thing but in the end it looks as though third place has gone
01:19 there to Campbell Stewart. In fact he didn't get to the line it was one of the riders of
01:25 UAE it was Romero who came through and pipped at the end. Where was he? So Isaac
01:28 del Toro it seemed nobody really knew where the line was. I still couldn't see it.
01:35 Yeah and it was very late and Campbell Stewart jumped and almost like he didn't know where the line was.
01:39 So Isaac del Toro the Mexican he says well I know where it is
01:44 follow me. Burns just hovering on the right-hand side of Van der Lee. I think
01:50 after what he saw last time the kick that Van der Lee has he wouldn't really
01:53 want to give him a lengthy start. He's gone. He goes. He was listening to you Robbie.
01:58 He's gone he caught him again this time now because this time he's gonna get
02:02 his own back I think. There's it 100 meters a good decision yes he's done it
02:06 and so that's a reversal now so your worst nightmare Robbie. We've now got joint
02:11 leaders in the competition. We've got a clear leader. So Burns was 9. Oh that's right Burns was 9.
02:20 So he's now got 16. 16 plays 12. 16 plays 12. Very very good. The pace that they'll be
02:28 holding all the way from the top of the final climb to the finish that 8k that'll
02:31 disappear really quickly as Van der Lee keeps the pressure on the pedals and he
02:36 will roll through the zip track intermediate sprint and take the three points and the
02:42 three bonus seconds. Luke Burns just stays tucked in the wheel. He's content.
02:48 It looks as though you might be right here Robbie. And Campbell Stewart he's been told get up
02:52 there and stop them. And Caleb Ewan also in the wheel of Stewart
02:56 saying no no no you blokes cannot have the one second that's up for grabs. So
03:01 Caleb Ewan goes through and says I'm not allowed to let you pass me. He's trying to
03:05 do it as easy as possible. Chain off. So that was del Toro again. Yes.
03:12 After yesterday Caleb said he wanted to have a go at today. He was hoping he was
03:16 gonna feel even better again and and be going well enough to survive the climb
03:20 and fight it out at the finish. So he would have rather saved a little bit
03:24 more at the moment. Even a gel has flown out of the pocket of del Toro. I was
03:32 surprised that del Toro challenged for quite so long. It's a bit of a waste and
03:36 effort when it was just for one second after all. As we went through Ashton
03:40 early on today. And he has. He's gone. Van der Lee has gone early. Well a theory was
03:46 right but the result was certainly different because he wasn't doing any
03:49 of the sort. This man wants the points. He's taking everything he can get his
03:53 hands on. He won the climb over over Ashton. He's won the sprints. Burns came
03:58 up with the last climb up here and he's done it again. It brings him up to 23
04:04 points. He's scored. He's gonna be pretty pleased with this now because this may
04:10 not be put to rights tomorrow. He could be the leader again for a couple of days.
04:14 He could be facing the last weekend and what a credit that would be for the
04:18 young Australian. Now his hands up here by Caleb. He's got a problem. You can't
04:24 see any teammates around him. They haven't sent anybody back for this. Where's the car?
04:30 Bike change coming for Caleb Ewan. Well this could be the winning move. He's
04:34 coming up to the final left hand bend and hesitation behind. So del Toro he'll
04:40 be loving this. And he's not even on the hook still. He's riding off the handlebars on the top.
04:46 Caleb Ewan is in amongst there as well but is it too little too late inside the
04:51 final 100 meters. Well as they come now they build up the sprint behind.
04:55 Caleb Ewan is not in on this one as it is Israel. Oh he's done it right on the line.
05:01 Can you believe an opportunist win like that? And he was sat with Caleb Ewan at
05:07 the back about five or six kilometers to go and was showing no interest in the race.
05:11 Isaac what does this mean for you? A victory so big as this.
05:15 No I don't know. It's so emotional you know. Last year was crazy but this one
05:22 maybe I start really good. I don't know. I don't know what I want to say.
05:27 It's so much. Congratulations. Lost for words. Fantastic result. And being so
05:33 daring, so strong and what I really like too is someone that says I'm lost for
05:39 words and they're actually lost for words. He was also lost for breath. That's
05:43 understandable. He's pulled. William's in for second. Yeah but as he was going up
05:50 towards the line he was riding like that on the tops of the handlebars. He never
05:54 went down. Aero as possible so keeping that frontal surface area as narrow as
05:59 he possibly could but he looked behind at this point and he knew he'd already
06:02 done enough. He's getting the victory salute ready. Takes another look around
06:06 and says remember this name fellas. Del Toro numero uno.
06:14 And doesn't that jersey look good. Take a step forward Isaac. Your new leader in
06:30 the OCA jersey after two stages. But this man here Isaac Del Toro becomes the
06:36 first Mexican to win a stage of the Santos Tour Down Under. He's beat the man
06:41 who could well get a stage win for the end of this race in Corbin Strong
06:45 because it was second and third for the Israel Premier Tech team and Binyam
06:50 Gemay yes he hasn't won a stage yet but he's now got the lead in the sprint
06:54 competition and we'll see how much he can do tomorrow to keep that lead but it
06:59 looks as though Kelly Buehren is coming out of the dark area of sickness. He
07:05 rode well today and he had a tough ride as well. Here we go this is how it
07:12 stands tonight as we go in tomorrow's stage. Isaac Del Toro will make the
07:17 headlines tomorrow all around the world. His first pro tour win. He now leads this
07:22 tour by two seconds. We'll see what he can do over the remaining four days of
07:26 this race. Strong is in second place. Gemay is in third and Steve Williams also
07:32 on Israel Premier Tech fourth.
