Wales headlines 17 January: Rees-Zammit leaves rugby for NFL

Plans for a new railways station in St Mellons have been put into further doubt due to problems with new Welsh government laws on Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Residents in the area back the plans, which would cut journey times into the city centre to 7 minutes and could provide as many as 6000 jobs.

Wales starlet Louis Rees-Zammit, one of the up and coming names in Welsh rugby, has stepped away from the sport, and will be pursuing a career in the NFL to play American football. The 22 year old will start in the International Players Pathway, with a view to earning a spot on a team for the 2024 season.

A local councillor in Sunderland has been criticised for running an anti-20 miles per hour page on facebook, despite having no links to Wales. Lyall Reed, a conservative councillor has been accused of hypocrisy after supporting a similar law in his city. He argues targeted local laws are different to a national change.
