00:00 Cape Town, South Africa has a lot to offer travelers, including the wine, the culinary
00:06 scene, the unique mix of cultures, and of course, the views.
00:11 The most iconic views of the city include Table Mountain, either as a backdrop or from
00:16 the top.
00:21 I visited Cape Town in May 2022 and got to appreciate the sandstone and granite mountain
00:26 that protrudes nearly 3,600 feet above sea level.
00:30 A visit to Cape Town is hardly complete without a trip to this flat top mountain.
00:35 There are two main ways to get to the top, by cable car and by foot.
00:40 I took the cable car, which took about five minutes in a funicular with a revolving door
00:44 and glassless windows.
00:46 As we ascended, I loved seeing the city's other mountains, Lion's Head and Signal Hill,
00:51 the glittering Atlantic Ocean in the distance, and the city of Cape Town sprawling under
00:57 me.
00:58 Table Mountain is one of the oldest mountains in the world, and the cable car will give
01:01 you a glimpse of millions of years of layers of rock.
01:05 When I reached the top, I saw flora and fauna that is unique to the area, including shrubs
01:11 known as fineboss.
01:15 The mountaintop is part of the Cape Floral Region, which in 2004 became a UNESCO World
01:20 Heritage Site.
01:22 Next time, I'll definitely hike to the top.
01:24 There are several hiking routes, some more direct and others more scenic.
01:28 Depending on your fitness level, hiking will take the better part of a day, from base to
01:32 summit and back.
01:35 Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, sunscreen, and to carry plenty of water if you decide to
01:39 go.
01:40 I'd also bring a few extra layers of clothing, as the weather on Table Mountain can change
01:45 on a dime.
01:46 There are even more intense ways to experience the mountain.
01:50 You can mountain bike, rock climb, abseil, paraglide, or compete in an ultramarathon
01:55 like my husband did.
01:57 Hi Ethan.
01:59 Whatever you choose, the views will be unforgettable.
02:01 See you soon.
02:19 Bye.
02:19 Bye.
