00:00 Travelers between Malaysia and Singapore want authorities to reinstate the shortcut
00:05 to the immigration clearance area at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs
00:10 Immigration and Quarantine Complex in Johor Bahru.
00:13 They said the shortcut near Hakka Hotel allowed them to bypass the traffic jam
00:17 along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, and this will significantly shorten their travel time.
00:23 Before the lockdown, I worked in Singapore for four years.
00:27 After the lockdown, I stayed in Singapore.
00:30 After the customs opened, I moved here to JB.
00:35 It's very near to the customs.
00:37 Then I just walked because it's very near and I only took the bus ride.
00:41 But before, there was a way to get here easily.
00:44 But now it's closed. After the lockdown, they didn't open it again.
00:47 After I walked, it's been about 10 minutes.
00:50 I also had a record of when it was opened, but I just waited and didn't open it.
00:55 From my room to the...
00:59 until I thump in, in the customs, it's 10 minutes.
01:03 Now it takes me 25 minutes.
01:05 Hopefully our MBA will try to expedite the thing for the common good of these common people.
01:15 The Johor government said they are considering to reopen the shortcut route.
01:21 The PHJ and the MBJB will discuss with the JKR to come up with a concept design first.
01:29 Which route is suitable for us to pass, but we can't finalise it there.
01:33 In the end, the GM has to make a decision, the KNN has to make a decision.
01:37 With the reopening of the shortcut,
01:39 the government hoped that it will help reduce congestion in Johor Bahru,
01:43 especially in the town area.
01:45 It is learned that pedestrians were previously allowed access into the building,
01:49 located near the bus entrance,
01:51 via the shortcut for many years until the Home Ministry stopped it during the COVID-19 pandemic.
01:57 [traffic noise]
02:00 [silence]
