00:00 >> Did you feel like just yesterday you were in a playoff game in the divisional
00:03 round, but yet also a long time ago at the same time?
00:06 >> Yeah, no, it's been a pretty quick year.
00:09 Feels like we were just in the playoffs and
00:12 like we were just in Philly and all that, so it's gone fast.
00:15 >> Have you ever met Jordan Love?
00:17 How familiar are you with his game?
00:19 >> I haven't met him.
00:21 I know guys that have, and everyone respects him.
00:24 I respect him, obviously, for what he's done and just the situation that he's been.
00:29 And playing behind Aaron for a number of years and then coming in and
00:34 sort of proving to himself and everybody who he is.
00:39 So definitely respect his story and his game and everything and
00:42 how he's handled himself, so, yep.
00:44 >> Do you think you feel different this year just having had playoff experience
00:47 last year, having gone through it, and
00:49 then now having that under your belt going into your second time around?
00:53 >> Yeah, I feel like it's a little different.
00:56 Just last year, still trying to find my way in a sense.
00:59 I got thrown in towards the end of the year.
01:01 And so every single week I was still trying to play good and learn who I was as
01:05 a quarterback and obviously get more familiar with playing within the system.
01:09 So those are all things that were sort of on my plate last year and
01:13 then obviously trying to win every single week and get this team to the end.
01:17 And so now, I guess this year, just being more familiar with the offense,
01:21 who I am and all that, it's a little different.
01:25 But it's good to sort of watch the games from last year and
01:28 sort of remember just the feeling and the emotions of playing in a playoff game.
01:33 It's good.
01:36 It's huge for me as a quarterback to go back to those moments and
01:39 sort of remember what it feels like.
01:40 So those are things that I'm sort of banking on.
01:43 >> What did it feel like?
01:46 >> Yeah, I feel like the first game was a little bit tense,
01:50 just in terms of every play mattered, not trying to turn the ball over.
01:54 But at the same time, making plays still and winning and doing what it takes to win.
02:00 So those were things I sort of had to learn in watching the film.
02:03 It's sort of you get back into that feeling of last year and
02:07 the first time in a playoff game.
02:09 And so it's sort of good to remember those kinds of things moving forward,
02:13 sort of understanding what to expect for the first playoff game this year for me.
02:18 >> At what point in the game on Sunday did you kind of feel like, okay,
02:21 we are gonna be playing the Packers and start to wrap your head around that?
02:26 >> I mean, you never know.
02:28 At the end, the Cowboys were making a push.
02:30 And so you never really know.
02:32 But after they got up, and in the third quarter, they were up pretty big.
02:36 I was like, okay, I think this is gonna probably be the team.
02:39 But like I said, you never know.
02:41 And the Cowboys started to come back and it was all right.
02:43 And so you're just watching.
02:45 And then obviously the minute the clock said zero, it's all right, let's go.
02:49 It's gonna be the Packers.
02:50 So it was a great game to watch.
02:53 And they came out ready to play against the Cowboys.
02:56 And man, they played really well.
02:58 So yeah, I guess third quarter, I started thinking we're gonna play the Packers.
03:04 >> How much tape of when the 49ers played in Lambeau a couple years ago in
03:08 the playoffs?
03:09 And do you remember maybe watching it live, I guess, when you were in school?
03:13 >> Yeah, all I remember in that game in college was the end,
03:16 like the block punt and all that kind of stuff.
03:18 It was crazy.
03:19 But, and it just being really cold.
03:21 But we've watched a couple plays and stuff from that game.
03:24 And sort of just seeing the environment, playoff football in Lambeau with the snow
03:29 and all that, I mean, what a crazy game.
03:32 So, but yeah, just the history of these two organizations and
03:35 the playoff games and stuff.
03:36 It's pretty cool to say that I get to play in that game now.
03:41 So I'm excited for it.
03:42 >> Brock, Kyle said that he worked you pretty hard during the bye week.
03:46 What was the process?
03:47 What kinds of things did you guys work on?
03:50 Did you feel like it was a productive use of your time?
03:52 >> Yeah, it was a great off week.
03:54 Obviously, it wasn't like you're gonna have a bunch of days off to just go do
03:58 whatever you want.
03:59 Like it was, we came in every day, got good work in.
04:02 So obviously getting after it with the playbook and little fundamentals for
04:06 myself that I need to get better at.
04:09 That have popped up on film and stuff throughout the year.
04:11 So we just wanna keep hammering away at those things.
04:14 And then just getting in that competitive nature with our defense.
04:18 Obviously, Fred across on the other side of the ball and competing.
04:21 And so we definitely got some good work in.
04:23 And Kyle and Greasy and all those guys pushed us on offense throughout the week.
04:28 So I thought it was a really productive week.
04:31 >> No discount to your scout team, but
04:33 how much more do you get out of going up against the ones?
04:37 >> Yeah, it's huge.
04:38 Obviously, they fly around.
04:40 They're really disciplined with their drops and stuff.
04:43 You got the crazy defensive line that we have and they're pushing the pocket.
04:47 So you put all those things together, man,
04:49 it's really good work that you can get out of it.
04:51 So and then obviously just, like I said, the competitive nature.
04:55 You feel your blood starts to pump a little bit when you're going against Dre and
04:58 Fred and both off the edge and the secondary that we have.
05:02 So it's always fun.
05:04 >> Brock, you said after the Ravens game that you let some of the hype around that
05:10 you didn't have much accident and you didn't feel like that affect you.
05:15 Can you say specifically, does it affect your preparation?
05:20 Does it affect just the way you played in the game?
05:23 And does that experience help you going into this, another big primetime fight?
05:30 >> Yeah, I mean, yeah, just it being a primetime game, Christmas Day and
05:34 all that kind of stuff.
05:35 And then we sort of had two really good plays in the beginning of the game and
05:39 the stadium's feeling it.
05:41 Everybody's feeling good.
05:42 And then boom, you make a mistake.
05:44 So I guess something for me, it's huge to be able to get in that kind of moment and
05:50 remember those kinds of things for as tough as they were and how bad as I felt
05:54 after, man, is that kind of stuff, it can help you if you allow it to.
05:59 To go back and watch it on film and be real with yourself about those moments and
06:03 what it takes to play quarterback at this level and be successful and
06:07 play consistently and make the right decisions consistently.
06:09 So those are all things that I took account from that game that I think I got
06:14 better at.
06:15 And honestly, we're gonna find out, the playoffs coming up and this game.
06:20 So yeah, I thought I took some stuff away from it, but
06:24 at the end of the day, we're gonna find out on Sunday or Saturday.
06:27 >> [INAUDIBLE] Way higher percentage on your first possession than any other
06:32 possession in the game.
06:35 Kyle says he doesn't care one way or the other.
06:36 He thinks they're all important.
06:38 But do you feel any different in the first possession?
06:40 I mean, how do you account for the fact that you guys have been so
06:43 good on scoring touchdowns the first time you hit the ball?
06:45 >> Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of things that go into that.
06:49 But I mean, I think at the end of the day, it's football.
06:51 It's a physical sport.
06:52 So I mean, we're all juiced up and ready to go for the first drive.
06:55 And just our mindset with getting on a team pretty quickly and
07:00 doing the little things right from the jump.
07:03 That's a big emphasis that we have here.
07:04 So that's something I think we've done well.
07:07 And then obviously our scheme and stuff,
07:08 the plays that we know we're gonna call for the first drive.
07:11 Those are all things that you can prepare for and it helps you out as a player.
07:15 So I think all those things added up together.
07:18 That's why you've seen us, I think, have success early on.
07:20 So we gotta, I mean, honestly, every drive matters, just like Kyle said, man.
07:25 So is that something that we gotta go into the game, say we have to?
07:29 Like, every game is different.
07:30 Obviously, we won't score every time we touch the ball.
07:32 But yeah.
07:35 >> Brock, what do you take away from your sit down with Steve Young?
07:37 And did you consider that informative or useful in any way?
07:42 >> Yeah, I thought it was awesome.
07:43 Obviously, he was sort of asking me some questions and
07:46 stuff about my process, how I think and all that.
07:48 But he had some really good just ideas and things that he said and
07:54 good perspectives on just the game in general.
07:56 And so you can tell, obviously, he was successful just by the way he thinks and
08:01 how he views life and stuff.
08:03 I think all of that put into one, man.
08:05 That's the reason why he is the way he is.
08:07 And so to be able to sit down with him, I was very honored.
08:09 And yeah, I thought it was pretty cool that he was asking some really good
08:13 questions, not just the generic stuff.
08:14 So and then after, being able to talk to him and just talk about ball and
08:21 everything and the fact that he has my back and supports me and
08:24 what I'm doing is pretty cool too, so it was sweet.
08:26 >> How much taller are you than Steve?
08:30 >> Am I taller?
08:30 I don't even know that.
08:31 >> I think you are.
08:32 >> Maybe an inch, I hope so, I don't know.
08:34 >> What are your thoughts on your younger brother coming to the Bay Area,
08:39 assuming he's still coming to San Jose State?
08:41 >> Yeah, I mean, obviously, there was a lot of the whole coaching turnover thing
08:45 that just happened with the head coach going to Arizona.
08:48 So he's gonna sort of just, I don't know, he's feeling it out still.
08:54 And he's got some decisions to make and I'm really excited for him and
08:58 happy for him either way.
08:59 So, but yeah, if he can be in the Bay, that'd be pretty sweet.
09:02 I have my brother here.
09:03 >> Green Bay's defense had a couple of interceptions against Dallas.
09:06 They didn't really have too many in the regular season.
09:08 Did they show anything differently in how they played Dallas or
09:11 maybe played more aggressively?
09:13 What did you see in that department?
09:15 >> Yeah, I mean, I think there were just some really good plays made by the DBs.
09:18 Jair Alexander, his ball in steaks on his one interception and
09:25 then number 26 Savage coming down and making a good read on Dak and
09:29 jumping a slant.
09:30 I think, I don't wanna say anything on their behalf, but
09:35 I mean, it looks like it's playoff football, man.
09:37 They're aggressive in what they're doing and when they see an opportunity,
09:40 they're willing to, like I said, be aggressive and take it.
09:43 So those are all things that I think we have to take account and for myself,
09:46 obviously with the ball in my hands every play.
09:48 So they're guys that can make plays and I have to understand that.
09:51 So it's gonna be a really good challenge.
09:53 >> We get team how excited or how much you itching to just actually get back out
09:58 there and to gain action?
10:00 >> Yeah, I mean, it was weird seeing the whole team and all my guys just out,
10:05 warming up for the game and stuff and I was like, man,
10:07 I wish I was able to do it with them and stuff.
10:10 So I'm glad honestly that we were able to get through that and
10:15 I was able to practice with them this week and I'm playing this week.
10:18 So I'm really excited about that, but definitely was an itch for sure.
10:21 But at the same time, being able to see the other guys get opportunities to go in
10:24 and play was huge and watching them play was sweet.
10:27 So but definitely ready for this one.
10:31 >> How much did you lean on?
10:31 >> You said guys will have animated side-line conversations,
10:36 not like screaming at each other or anything.
10:39 But it gets tense and tight and you gotta figure out what the next step is.
10:44 I mean, I guess, what are those like and do they get,
10:48 I don't know, heated is not the right word, but
10:53 what are the exchanges like during the heat of a game?
10:57 >> Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, we wanna win and we're competitors at heart.
10:59 He played this position, he played it well, and so he gets it.
11:03 And we're obviously very hard on ourselves at the quarterback position and
11:07 we have a standard that we have here.
11:08 And whenever I'm not playing at a level that I should be,
11:11 he's the first to tell me, which I love.
11:14 And as a quarterback, I want a coach who's real and holds a standard and
11:20 doesn't allow any room for error and doesn't have any slack on us.
11:24 If that were the case, man, I don't think I'd be playing good football.
11:28 I wouldn't be able to play at my full potential and he helps me get to that and
11:33 centers me back on the mindset that we need to have.
11:35 And honestly, he lights a fire in me throughout the game too and
11:39 reminds me of the competitive nature that we need to have,
11:43 even though we're quarterbacks and stuff.
11:45 We're the guys that can bring the juice to the offense.
11:47 And so he's done that a lot throughout the year and I respect that a lot from him.
11:51 So anytime there's some animation on the sideline between us,
11:56 it's I think a good thing too, so.
11:58 >> Last week, did you and Christian lean on each other?
12:01 It seemed like you both had that mentality of really, really wanting to play, but
12:04 you knew that you couldn't.
12:05 I mean, did you guys lean on each other during that?
12:08 >> From week 18, you're talking about?
12:10 Yeah, I mean, we- >> [INAUDIBLE]
12:13 >> Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think we had talked about it throughout the week and
12:18 stuff and obviously we understand what the end goal is and
12:21 the big picture of things.
12:22 And so for him, obviously getting his body healthy and right and
12:26 then obviously keeping me healthy and going into playoffs as well was huge.
12:29 So those are things we both understood and
12:32 we both hammered away at the little things throughout the week.
12:36 Obviously, he came back looking great at practice and stuff, but
12:40 that's a professional right there.
12:42 You understand what we're trying to do.
12:44 Obviously, we understood we had the first seed locked up and to go out and
12:48 play for our team was awesome, every opportunity we get.
12:52 But at the same time, we both understand that we have to be healthy going into
12:56 playoffs, and so having his advice and help throughout that time was huge too.
13:00 But we're both excited to obviously get through that and be healthy for this game.
13:04 So we're excited for the opportunity.
13:06 Thank you.
