Extreme heat forecast for parts of NSW over the next three days

Parts of New South Wales will be sweltering through heatwave conditions for the next few days. Temperatures are expected to range between 35 and 37 degrees and some areas are facing the hottest temperatures in four years this week.

00:06 The heat has been building over WA last week and it's finally hit us here on the east coast.
00:11 We're expecting temperatures to be about 12 degrees above average in Sydney and that's
00:16 particularly tough for those vulnerable groups like the elderly and very small children.
00:20 New South Wales Health Dr Jeremy McAnulty has some tips on how to stay safe over the
00:26 coming heatwave.
00:27 If you are going out and about make sure you're prepared for hot weather so wear comfortable
00:32 loose fitting clothing that's not too heavy, wear a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, carry water
00:38 with you because in hot weather you'll dehydrate more and keep up your water so drink more
00:44 than you would normally do.
00:46 Avoid exercising in the hotter parts of the day.
00:49 Health authorities say for those staying indoors to close the doors, the blinds and windows,
00:54 to crank the air conditioner or the fan and if you don't have those to head to your local
00:59 library or community centre and enjoy the community cooling.
