00:00 "You've had enough to eat fatty, stop eating."
00:02 When I was like seven years old, every time the bell would ring,
00:08 and it would be lunchtime, I would immediately dread that period.
00:12 Because I spent every single day eating by myself.
00:17 I saw three eighth grade kids walking by me,
00:21 and as I was taking a bite out of my sandwich,
00:24 one of the kids comes out and slaps it out of my hand,
00:27 and it just lands on the floor, and I look up,
00:30 and the kid looks at me, and he's like,
00:33 "You've had enough to eat fatty, stop eating."
00:37 I just went to the bathroom.
00:39 I remember just calling my mom, just to hear her voice,
00:42 because I just needed to know that someone out there loved me.
00:47 I have these memories of my mom hugging me,
00:51 and calming me down because I was crying.
00:53 When we immigrated to the U.S.,
00:55 she knew that we wouldn't have that American dream life
00:59 that my parents envisioned.
01:01 We were very poor at the time,
01:02 and so she actually put herself through USC nursing school,
01:06 and was dead set on becoming a doctor,
01:09 and that was always her dream for herself.
01:11 As I got older, and as she graduated nursing school,
01:16 she didn't want to take out any more loans,
01:17 she didn't want to spend any more time away from me.
01:19 She decided to forego medical school.
01:22 And instead, that dream kind of got carried on to me.
01:26 Every time that my mom's friends would ask her,
01:30 like, "What does Catherine want to be when she grows up?"
01:32 She would always say, "She's going to be a doctor.
01:34 "She's going to be a doctor."
01:35 And so my whole life, I was almost trained
01:38 to know that I would have to get good grades,
01:41 that I would have to study,
01:42 and that one day I'm going to become a doctor,
01:45 and make my parents happy.
01:47 As I got older, my mom was very strict with things at home.
01:51 I would always do my best to get really good grades,
01:53 but for some reason, it was really, really tough for me,
01:56 and every time that I would get less than an A,
01:59 I would get grounded.
02:01 All of a sudden, I just hear this voice come through.
02:03 "Catherine, who are you living for?"
02:06 Couple hours later, "Catherine, who are you living for?"
02:10 The next day, it gets louder.
02:12 "Catherine, who are you living for?"
02:15 I finally answered it, and I realized, everyone but myself.
02:20 I kind of got my first awakening,
02:23 as to, like, there might be something more out there for you.
02:26 There might be something better out there for you.
02:29 And in the midst of these crazy decisions,
02:32 and realizing, you know, I'm living
02:34 for all these other people,
02:35 and what I really wanted to do all my life,
02:37 with all that I've been through,
02:39 I was really inspired and passionate about uplifting others.
02:43 And I just realized, "Oh my God, I need to tell my parents
02:48 that I no longer want to go to medical school."
02:51 The only reason why I was doing it, was to please them.
02:56 And I sat down my parents on the couch
02:59 that we have in our kitchen.
03:00 I remember looking at my parents and being like,
03:03 "Guys, like, I'm not going to medical school.
03:06 Like, this is not the path for me."
03:08 And the look on their faces
03:12 were definitely ones of disappointment.
03:16 Their faces went white.
03:18 And then I could see them turning red out of anger.
03:22 And I remember my mom looking at me and being like,
03:26 "This is really disappointing, and you're a disappointment.
03:28 And what you're doing is a big mistake.
03:31 And I don't think you're ever going to be successful at it."
03:34 How could my own parents say that to me?
03:38 And I was on Instagram, like, distracting myself one night,
03:43 when I came across this quote.
03:45 And the quote says,
03:46 "Live your life as if your prayers are already answered."
03:51 And I had a journal next to the cot
03:54 that I remember sitting up, turning on this light,
03:58 opening up my journal,
03:59 and I started to write down my life
04:02 the way that I want it to look like.
04:04 I remember writing down my dream relationship
04:06 and what it would look like,
04:07 that I have this successful business.
04:10 I remember at this time, I was really,
04:12 and I still am, obsessed with travel.
04:14 And so I remember writing, like, every single month,
04:16 I'm going to be in a different country.
04:18 And every single day,
04:19 I worked on becoming that version of myself
04:22 who was already living that reality.
04:24 And I can just feel, like, the shift taking over.
04:27 I fell in love, me and my fiance, well, we got engaged,
04:31 and I started traveling the world.
04:34 And every single month,
04:35 we would be in a different country.
04:37 All of these amazing things just started happening,
04:39 and my life started to take on that vision
04:42 that I wrote for myself two years ago.
04:45 I think the first thing to become aware of
04:48 is that your current destination
04:51 is not your final destination.
04:53 I was able to create a business
04:56 that allows me to fulfill my purpose
04:58 and help thousands of women around the world
05:01 by showing them how their mindset
05:03 doesn't describe their reality.
05:06 It creates it.
05:07 And now, I'm on a mission to inspire every single person
05:11 to create lives wilder than their wildest dream.
05:15 People have this story stuck in their head of,
05:18 this is the way things are
05:19 because this is how my parents made me to be,
05:22 how I had to behave so I wouldn't get bullied,
05:25 how I had to be to protect myself from being hurt.
05:28 But even if my parents didn't believe in me,
05:30 at least I believed in myself, and so can you.
05:34 And so, I tell people to start by looking at
05:37 what is the story of their life that's playing
05:40 and realize you don't have to settle
05:42 for anything less than what you want.
