00:00 The project that connects power grids across the country was officially approved by the President.

00:05 He asked the President to not allow the widespread brownout that he experienced in Western Visayas.

00:11 Ivan Mayrina is the one who made the call.

00:13 Just three weeks ago, the Panay Islands were covered by darkness

00:20 in the areas of Iloilo, Antique, Capiz, and Taclan.

00:24 This resulted not only in severe damage, but also in a huge loss to the economy of the region.

00:28 The President is now calling on the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, or NGCP,

00:34 to monitor the stability of the grid and ensure that there is continuous supply of electricity.

00:38 The President did not let this go in his recent meeting with the NGCP.

00:44 Aside from the severe damage, the widespread brownout of 3.8 billion pesos

00:49 in the loss of the economy of Iloilo province alone.

00:51 We cannot afford to have another round of this costly interruption.

00:56 Not only in Panay Island, but anywhere in the country.

00:59 So let's move forward with the lessons that we have gained from this blackout.

01:03 Ensure this massive inconvenience and loss for our people should not occur again.

01:20 The President led the ceremonial opening of the Mindanao Visayas Interconnection Project, or MVIP, of the NGCP.

01:26 Where the switch in Malacanang and the converter stations in Cebu and Lanao del Norte were opened simultaneously.

01:32 The MVIP connects the power grid in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao

01:36 through the 184-kilometer high-voltage direct current submarine cable.

01:41 Through this, the supply of electricity from Mindanao to Visayas and Luzon will be distributed.

01:46 And it will be used wherever there is a reserve of electricity in the grid, wherever it is most needed.

01:51 After the MVIP, several big ticket projects will see completion in the next months,

01:57 also in the next years, and within the next 10 years of horizon of our transmission plan.

02:04 The President reminded that this project was promised by the NGCP in March 2023.

02:10 And after this, two more years of the Interconnection Project should be completed.

02:14 The NGCP should be completed within the time frame.

02:17 The President also emphasized the plans that the third party is allowing in the construction of transmission projects.
