00:14 along the Sandakan-Lahat Datu Road near Kampung Paris 1 on Saturday morning.
00:19 Kinabatangan OCPD Superintendent Zulbaharin Ismail said initial investigations revealed
00:25 that two lorries had collided when the drivers tried to avoid potholes and uneven roads.
00:31 In a statement, he said two other vehicles, a sedan and a three-ton lorry, had to brake
00:36 to avoid crashing into the lorries.
00:38 However, an express bus coming from the same direction failed to stop and rammed into the
00:43 back of the sedan.
00:45 The impact caused the sedan to slide forward, crashing into the three-ton lorry.
00:50 The sedan driver sustained minor injuries, but a girl in the sedan was later pronounced
00:55 dead.
00:56 Superintendent Zulbaharin added that all 29 passengers and the driver on the express bus
01:02 escaped unhurt.
01:04 Following the accident, the bus driver was detained to facilitate investigations for
01:08 reckless driving, and a remand application would be made soon.
