00:00 Yes, at 1.30pm this afternoon we were called to the corner here of Picton Road and Mount Kira Road
00:07 where a two vehicle crash has occurred.
00:11 Unfortunately, one male has deceased and the second male has been airlifted to St George Hospital.
00:19 He's in a stable condition and has been taken for precaution.
00:23 Do we know what happens yet to cause the crash?
00:27 At this stage we're still under investigation. We've got our crime scene in attendance at the moment
00:33 and they'll have a look at all the circumstances around the crash.
00:40 How bad is this crash, Jason? Just how lucky is that van driver to be alive?
00:45 It looks like there's a substantial impact there, but at this stage I can't comment on that part.
00:52 And what is the condition of the van driver? Is he going to survive?
00:55 I'm led to believe he's been flown to St George Hospital for precautionary examinations.
01:01 Can we just talk about the recent road trauma, Jason? Obviously this is just adding to that growing family.
01:08 Yes, police obviously will put out the message that all crashes are obviously devastating,
01:14 but if we can drive to the conditions and be patient and cautious while you're on the road.
01:20 Can you just tell me as well, Jason, what's the flow-on impact of crashes like this?
01:24 Obviously there's multiple families involved. It's traumatising for emergency services too?
01:29 Yeah, correct. Obviously the impact is far-reaching, not just for the people involved in the crash and that,
01:37 but we've had to shut down Picton Road at the moment in both directions
01:41 and other road users have had to find alternative routes.
01:46 How long is Picton Road expected to be shut for?
01:49 I'd say there will be at least another hour before we can clear the road and get people back on their same route.
