00:00 What is the role of the king in the constitution?
00:03 Dato Hsin Najib went through the legal process and is now in prison.
00:10 But every right, the right of every citizen who has been convicted to appeal to the king.
00:18 I used to sit in the PADES board as minister in charge of Kuala Lumpur, now it's being held by someone else.
00:27 But of course the king, as a constitutional monarch, consults the Attorney General, the Prime Minister and many.
00:38 And he is of course the bastion to uphold the constitution and the rule of law.
00:45 And all these considerations are taken into account.
00:53 And then the king, after listening to the board, finally decided to reduce the sentence by 50%, which means in 2028.
01:05 Now, if 50 million ringgit is paid, then he will be released in 2028, August.
01:15 But if it's not paid, then it will be extended another year to 2029.
01:22 Now, having said that, this ongoing case in court, through a judicial process independently, has to continue.
01:33 At the same time, Dato Hsin Najib has every right to again appeal to the new king.
01:44 So I think the process has to be respected, is beyond the Prime Minister or the government.
01:52 And I respect the decision of the king, the then king, now from the first we have a new king.
02:00 So, whatever one feels, of course, is very political, some support, some don't.
02:10 But you cannot ignore the fact that you must respect the right of anyone convicted to appeal to the Padres Board.
02:19 Now, the Padres Board has made a decision. If one is satisfied, it's fair.
02:25 If he's not satisfied, he still, or he or she, still has the avenue to appeal at a later stage.
