Michelin Guide 2024: The new fine dining hotspots added to the latest edition of the list

This week, the Midland Hotel in Manchester played host to the 2024 Michelin Guide Ceremony for Great Britain and Ireland. The event saw 20 new fine dining spots added to the highly coveted and prestigious list, with a wide variety of cuisines represented across the list. Here's our guide to what's new.

00:00 Receiving a Michelin star and appearing in the guide is among the highest honours for
00:05 restaurateurs and chefs and serves as a hallmark for a great quality dining experience. It's
00:10 based on scoring in five categories - quality of ingredients, mastery of flavour and cooking
00:15 techniques, the personality of the chef in the cuisine, value for money and consistency
00:19 of food. This time London was a very successful city with 15 new stars awarded there, including
00:25 for Indian-themed Empire Empire in Notting Hill. Birmingham welcomed its first ever two
00:29 star - also Indian Oath theme. House of Tides Newcastle upon Tyne is on the list with one
00:34 star and the Clifton Bristol is a new Bib Gourmand award winner too. Gwendolyn Polenik,
00:39 the international director of the Michelin Guide said of the new additions to the list
00:42 "These are establishments that deserve recognition for their continued commitment to offering
00:47 affordable, delicious cooking. The generosity and value for money they offer is wonderful
00:52 to see during these challenging economic times for the restaurant industry."
