00:00 Well, snow could be returning in the forecast for the Northeast as we head into next week.
00:05 So let's send it over to Bernie Rayno who's got a look ahead.
00:08 Bernie.
00:09 You know, while there's no sign of winter right now, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, watch
00:12 out early next week.
00:14 Some ingredients coming together for the potential for some snow.
00:17 Now, let's talk about where the storm is that may produce this snow.
00:21 There it is.
00:22 This is Alaska.
00:23 Here's Anchorage.
00:24 So you're talking about the Southwest Aleutian Islands here.
00:27 That's where the energy is.
00:28 Now let's track it.
00:29 We've got plenty of time to track this system.
00:31 It's going to be moving north across Alaska, then come across British Columbia, and then
00:36 by Friday, where is it?
00:37 Across the Northwest.
00:38 A lot of energy with this.
00:40 You can see that, the yellow and orange shading.
00:41 Now watch what happens.
00:43 This continues around the bend, and then it sets up a very interesting weather pattern
00:47 as we get into Sunday evening.
00:49 It's what we call a split flow.
00:51 What's a split flow?
00:52 Two branches of the jet stream.
00:54 A northern branch and a southern branch.
00:57 Now this is how this is going to work.
00:58 The northern branch, well the southern branch is the storm.
01:01 That's where you have all the moisture.
01:03 So this is where you have the storm.
01:05 The northern branch is going to do two things.
01:07 It's going to deliver cold air on the northern side of the storm, because remember, we don't
01:11 have any.
01:12 And it's also going to steer this storm.
01:14 Now, if this northern branch of the jet stream moves as quick or quicker than the southern
01:19 branch, it'll drive the storm out to sea.
01:22 It'll keep it off to the south.
01:24 There will be no snow with it.
01:25 Now, if this southern branch of energy moves out ahead of the northern branch, then it
01:31 gets guided to the northeast.
01:33 And then you're talking about the possibility of snow.
01:36 So again, this is what we're watching for early next week, Monday into Tuesday.
01:39 Again, that northern branch, if it says moving as fast or faster than the actual storm, then
01:45 it gets driven into the south and out to sea.
01:47 But if that storm moves a little quicker than the northern branch, it gets guided to the
01:51 northeast.
01:52 Here comes the cold air.
01:53 And voila, you're talking about some snow.
01:56 We have to watch that.
01:57 Even around Washington, D.C., Baltimore, you have to be concerned.
01:59 But certainly across parts of Pennsylvania and New England, you know I'm going to keep
02:03 an eye on it.
