00:00 >> Athletes, coach go right into questions.
00:01 Jesse, you wanna start us off?
00:03 >> Part of that last defensive play, the Waldo strip,
00:06 looked like there was a lot going on, maybe tried to foul, a lot going on.
00:10 But he ends up getting the steal.
00:11 Just what happened on that possession and then also his effort there to get the steal?
00:15 >> Yeah, so down the stretch, we have that philosophy of fouling.
00:19 And he just took off when you couldn't catch him.
00:21 And then when he got inside at three, we knew a three beat us.
00:25 And Waldo made a nice poke and just got it, and got a big stop.
00:30 And so I think JV on at the end of the game, those free throws,
00:34 he's just, it's really doing good.
00:37 Cuz we left a lot of points on the board with our free throws.
00:39 But we had to go to switching one through five,
00:43 a handful in the last four or five minutes.
00:46 And so that was part of it too.
00:49 >> We'll go Bob then James.
00:51 >> What about off of that JV on offensive game is kind of rough for him.
00:56 But what about those four free throws?
00:57 What about him wanting that ball in those kind of situations?
01:00 >> That's what makes him special.
01:01 He definitely wanted it.
01:03 We ran that out of bounds, everyone calls it football.
01:06 And we line up the baseline and we just start taking off cuz it's hard to match.
01:10 And JV got it and then he just took off.
01:12 And then that was another three or four seconds off the clock.
01:15 I mean, he wanted it.
01:15 He wasn't gonna give that up.
01:17 And I love that about him.
01:18 He wants that no matter what at the end of the game.
01:22 >> James.
01:23 >> Part of this game wasn't called in your direction necessarily.
01:27 So I'm trying to be as honest as I can.
01:29 I don't want you to get fined or anything.
01:31 >> Thank you.
01:32 >> But to keep your team in it and your team staying in it,
01:36 even though things aren't going for you, and you win the game at the end.
01:39 What does it say about tonight's game and how your team played?
01:42 >> Well, I kind of finally huddled them off after when Sam got one from the bench,
01:46 waving his towel.
01:48 I just called us together.
01:49 I said, you guys, we gotta overcome adversity.
01:53 Stop thinking about all that's happening.
01:56 And I was having to listen to myself too, my own advice.
02:00 And just say, from this point, let the story be we're overcoming adversity.
02:05 Not let the story be, man, it's just crazy circumstances going on.
02:10 And I'll say this, I should have said at the beginning.
02:13 I didn't expect anything less from Oklahoma State playing their tails off.
02:19 Physical, high energy, played unbelievably hard,
02:26 and I didn't expect anything else from Oklahoma State.
02:28 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:30 >> You talked about going on a random game
02:32 of win streaks and trying to stack these wins.
02:35 Without looking too far ahead, knowing what's ahead these next few weeks,
02:37 how big was it to come out of this one with these hands going up?
02:42 >> Every game we're trying to stack wins.
02:44 You're trying to stack wins, you're trying to stay in the hunt for a championship.
02:47 I still think we're, I think, two games behind.
02:50 I don't even know who won the Houston Cincinnati game.
02:53 >> Houston won.
02:53 >> Houston won, okay.
02:55 So I mean, our goals are still very high with seven league games left.
03:01 And you gotta stack wins, you gotta go one game win streaks.
03:04 But this was big to put it in the column now, being taken care of this here.
03:10 And we know what's ahead, but I don't talk to the guys about what's ahead.
03:15 I mean, all we talk about is the one right in front of us,
03:18 trying to go on that one game win streak, right,
03:20 whatever that is right there in front of us.
03:23 >> You've mentioned a couple of times throughout the year how much more veteran
03:26 you guys are this year.
03:27 Being able to maintain the physicality after that kind of huddle you talked about
03:31 while still playing through everything, is that like a,
03:34 that's where that kind of shows up, of being able to continue to bring that without?
03:37 >> I thought the train made some really good plays.
03:39 I really feel, I went and hugged Toby's three kids, and
03:43 they were sitting right there at the table.
03:44 And I said, Trey's three that bounced up and then bounced, and
03:47 I think Toby went like that, pushing it in,
03:50 because it was right in front of where he sits.
03:52 And I thought that Trey and Waldo continued to make some key plays.
03:56 And then I just told the team, the guys were so happy for Luke Norweather.
04:01 It's very hard to not play and all of a sudden to get in this atmosphere.
04:05 So in ten minutes, he had five points.
04:08 He had three assists, and he drew three fouls.
04:11 He drew three fouls.
04:13 So what a good ten minutes, and
04:14 that is a great lesson of keeping your mind right, staying with it.
04:19 And man, he was, and he had two other ones that were just in and out.
04:23 I mean, I thought he was loud on defense.
04:26 He didn't look scared in the moment, and that's a credit to him to stay ready.
04:30 >> TJ.
04:31 >> You mentioned staying ready, the biggest play of the game you hit on earlier,
04:33 that Trey's three, rattled on aim.
04:35 Talk about this, maybe him being ready for that moment.
04:39 The balance that you guys showed, that's the guy who was up getting that shot.
04:41 >> Yeah, I mean, even the end of the half, what a veteran.
04:45 We got a stop with seven seconds left, and Waldo got it,
04:48 escaped dribble, two dribbles up the sideline for a big three.
04:51 Those are really good momentum turners there.
04:55 But I think a lot of guys, even Lowe's though, here's the thing with Milo's.
05:00 His voice in the huddles and coming out of the huddles was elite.
05:04 So you might not look at this and say, no one's even asked me about Lowe's.
05:07 But coming out of the huddles, you heard his voice every single time.
05:09 Every time I saw the guys walking on the court, he was like that.
05:12 And it's so important for teams to look at somebody and be like,
05:16 we're winning this, we're winning this.
05:18 And I thought they looked at a couple of the guys, they felt that.
05:21 >> Barry then, Joe.
05:22 >> Yeah, Porter, they got a 56-52 down the stretch, and
05:26 I think they went almost four minutes without scoring.
05:29 I thought that's the biggest stretch of the game.
05:31 >> What'd you do in those four minutes to make sure they didn't spurt away?
05:35 >> You know what, we were trying just to continue to play possession by possession.
05:39 And with Javon Small, we switched one time, and
05:41 he went back to his right hand and got to the rim.
05:43 I thought he was really a load to guard in the second half.
05:47 They get to the foul line, we know that's a strength of theirs.
05:50 And then it was crazy, the bonus happened so
05:52 fast with all the technicals, cuz those count against your thing.
05:56 But I thought LaTrey came up with a great rebound,
06:00 Waldo came up with a great rebound, and that was stretching.
06:04 But we did go to switching some one through five.
06:07 They went small with Daly, and then we were going small with Jay LeMore at the five.
06:10 So I gotta look back, that's the stretch you're talking about.
06:13 But I thought they, Javon, I said it before,
06:20 I think he's one of the premier guards in this league, he's tough to handle.
06:24 And but I thought we played better physically without fouling
06:28 down the stretch too, cuz it just seemed they were going to the foul line,
06:31 going to the foul line, going to the foul line.
06:32 And they do, I think they're one in the league at getting to the foul line too.
06:36 So it's a strength of theirs.
06:37 >> Joe.
06:39 >> Porter, after the Texas loss here,
06:41 you said you were upset that you guys didn't get a win for
06:45 a crowd which was really good that night, crowd was good again tonight.
06:48 I wish you said the upper hand in the last few years.
06:52 Does it mean something extra to get a win in Bedlam in front of this crowd today?
06:57 >> I mean, I'd be lying to say anything different, but absolutely.
07:01 I thought the crowd had tremendous energy, they were in it the whole time.
07:04 It's what you envision, you look around, it was completely filled.
07:07 And to have them walking away with a win, I mean, it was.
07:10 And it wasn't the prettiest thing, it wasn't.
07:12 I mean, all the different things, just how it went down.
07:17 We were up seven and all of a sudden, we get a technical two free throws.
07:22 We follow a three point shooter and then John gets a foul on a ball screen.
07:25 Boom, that's seven free throws, just like that all of a sudden you're gone.
07:28 So there was so many ebbs and flows and the crowd just stayed high energy.
07:33 So yeah, definitely, it means a lot to them.
07:36 And for us, we still have some huge home games and they make a difference.
07:39 >> Senator Meadow.
07:41 >> With that said, if it were up to you, would there be a Bedlam in Wendellville next year?
07:46 >> I said this before this thing, Mike and I have talked about it and
07:50 I don't think either one of us are opposed to it.
07:52 I mean, it's a great state, it's great for the teams.
07:55 Just gotta figure out the timing of it, with our schedules in advance.
08:00 So I would assume, between Mike and I, we have no, I'm not opposed to it.
08:07 Not opposed to it, just gotta figure out if it starts up next year or what it is, or
08:10 if it's at a neutral site, or you're going back and forth at your home court.
08:14 So you just gotta figure all that out, but it's great for this state.
08:19 >> You can go back left.
08:21 No, go ahead, back left, yep.
08:24 >> Can you dive a little bit deeper into the atmosphere and
08:27 the overall emotion of the night?
08:29 And can you tell us how your team responded to that?
08:32 >> So I thought our guys, it kept our guys believing through adversity,
08:37 cuz there was some adversity.
08:39 I mean, you can't plan,
08:41 there's nothing I can do to plan that Sam Godwin would foul out from the bench.
08:45 >> [LAUGH] >> I've been doing this 33 years,
08:48 I don't think I sat there before the game.
08:50 If Sam fouls out from the bench, this is what I'm gonna do.
08:53 So it's just crazy.
08:54 So, but I think that the atmosphere kept our guys believing,
08:58 kept our guys in there.
08:59 And the emotion of the students, man, when I went over by the students,
09:04 I mean, I felt like one of those old Gumby dolls.
09:07 I was just getting pulled.
09:08 I mean, I think that was cool.
09:09 They were emotional.
09:11 I mean, you could just feel the emotion with it when we walked down by
09:14 the student section after the game.
09:16 >> We'll go Clay then TJ.
09:18 >> There's a lot of people, Barry, that don't really know the Gumby dolls.
09:21 >> I was about to say, do you think the students know it?
09:22 >> Yeah, I think one of the room just said, what the hell did you say?
09:24 >> [LAUGH] >> Just a thought on McCollum,
09:27 he hits the free throws, they're gonna be bigger.
09:30 Struggles continue shooting, just how's he doing?
09:37 >> Greg, he was so happy.
09:38 He was so happy in there.
09:39 And he's gonna continue to come out of it.
09:46 But man, down the stretch, that's what you love.
09:49 I mean, there was no way, I mean, he wanted that ball, and
09:52 there was no way he was giving that thing up.
09:53 I mean, it was really good to see how bad he wanted it.
09:56 >> We'll go to the back, right TJ, start us off.
09:58 >> You mentioned that one down out from the bench.
10:00 You said something earlier, waving a towel, that what the team was for?
10:04 >> I mean, you gotta ask them.
10:06 >> Can you get up to the mic?
10:09 >> Yeah, they said he was waving the towel, and
10:11 then from there on I blocked it out.
10:13 >> [COUGH] >> Go ahead.
10:17 >> I wanna talk about Otega.
10:19 This season, he's been in foul trouble in your line.
10:22 You're still gonna play, and that's what he did.
10:24 And he especially had those pretty good, pretty clutch free throws at the end as
10:28 well, just talk about how he still has to.
10:30 >> Great clutch free throws.
10:32 We had two fouls, and I was telling him, cuz even the analytics show you can play
10:37 him through, and I've evolved.
10:38 I used to never play a guy.
10:39 Get two fouls, I never play him, but I've evolved.
10:41 I know, cuz I wanted to stay in it, and it backfired on me.
10:45 I kept him in, and he got his third foul, fouled a three-point shooter.
10:49 But I was just trying to get him going with some things.
10:52 We were about to go down there, and it is what it is.
10:55 He got in foul trouble, but even the analytics tell you,
10:57 if you get three fouls, you're still in the second half.
10:59 But I love that he stayed in it mentally,
11:03 to come down there and get those free throws.
11:06 >> What did he do to get the best?
11:10 >> I advise you don't comment on that.
11:12 >> Any additional questions for coach?
11:14 - Okay, thanks.
