00:00 >> Thank you guys again for being here.
00:03 We have coach Campbell following tonight's game against West Virginia.
00:07 We'll start with an opening statement from coach and
00:09 then open the room for some questions.
00:11 >> Credit West Virginia for playing a good game today.
00:16 Their press was very disruptive and made our kids uncomfortable.
00:21 Could not get into any rhythm, did not do a good job taking care of the ball.
00:26 And that's something that's been a common theme.
00:30 We got to do a better job taking care of the ball.
00:32 And in the second half, third quarters have crushed us all the last
00:37 four to five games.
00:41 And so we got to continue to grow and get better in that third quarter.
00:45 But this game, we didn't play good enough basketball to stay in the fight.
00:49 And we got to continue to grow and get better and
00:52 hopefully we get some other kids back from injury here soon.
00:56 >> You mentioned the pressure that West Virginia put on you guys.
00:58 Do you feel like that sped you up a little bit to get you out of position on
01:02 offense?
01:03 >> For sure, it sped us up.
01:05 It forced a lot of turnovers.
01:09 They did a great job.
01:10 They scored on this.
01:12 It says 21 points off turnovers.
01:13 It felt like more than that.
01:16 But that's what they do to everybody.
01:18 As they press, they make you uncomfortable.
01:21 And yeah, I could never get into a rhythm.
01:25 >> Agnes, I mean, she 18 points, a bunch of rebounds, six blocks.
01:29 I mean, she's so consistent.
01:31 How much has her leadership met on the court kind of through this transitional
01:35 time?
01:36 >> Yeah, she's growing.
01:37 That's an area that we've challenged her during this time.
01:40 She's a quiet kid by nature and leads by example by nature.
01:46 And so trying to get her to speak up more and grow in that area.
01:51 And she's been amazing.
01:53 She's been a pillar of rock.
01:55 Tonight she had 17 points, five rebounds, six blocks, played her heart out.
01:59 Thankful for that kid.
02:02 >> And Sydney Harris and
02:04 Aliyah Roberson at halftime didn't have any points.
02:07 Do you feel like was it just not,
02:09 they just weren't getting the shots they were hoping they would get?
02:11 Cuz they're usually part of the offense and kind of what you guys wanted to do.
02:15 >> Yeah, these guys zone a lot.
02:17 So it kind of takes away Aliyah's ability to be down there
02:23 against a man where she's a little more versatile.
02:26 So the zone made it hard for Aliyah to get in a rhythm and find shots.
02:32 And then Sydney did a good job in the second half kind of being aggressive.
02:35 But we gotta hit shots when the game is close and when the game matters.
02:41 Those shots at the end of the game, there's no pressure.
02:45 You're down big.
02:46 And so this is a really good ball club.
02:49 I mean, they're a top 25 team in the country.
02:51 I think they're second place in the Big 12.
02:54 We're not at that level right now.
02:56 That's not where we're at with A and we're down.
03:00 >> When you go into the fourth quarter and you're down 27 points or
03:03 whatever it is, what are you wanting out of the group that's on the court?
03:06 What are you looking for from that?
03:07 >> You gotta play the game right, whether you're up 20 or down 20.
03:11 Share the ball, compete, defend and rebound, talk, communicate.
03:16 Do the controllables.
03:17 But again, that doesn't matter if you're up 20 or down 20.
03:22 You gotta handle those things and grow and get better.
03:25 So there's no such thing as meaningless minutes.
03:28 All these minutes matter.
03:29 And so we got a group of kids that needs to just, we got a long ways to go.
03:35 We got a lot of work to do.
03:37 And we just gotta keep getting better.
03:40 >> It felt like in that fourth quarter maybe they kind of maybe learned some
03:43 things out a little bit better.
03:44 Did you feel like they kind of grew a little bit in that fourth quarter?
03:46 >> Yeah, there was some energy.
03:47 We hit a couple shots.
03:49 When you put the ball in the hole,
03:51 you have a little more back to your step on the defensive end.
03:55 And so we just struggled to get into any offensive rhythm.
04:00 And so, but I'm glad that we fought that fourth quarter.
04:06 The kids didn't put their heads down, they kept fighting.
04:08 >> And what have you thought about Tara's development,
04:12 especially getting more comfortable taking those three point shots?
04:16 >> Yeah, she's really helped us with the passing and being a facilitator.
04:23 But she's a really good shooter.
04:25 I have total confidence in her.
04:27 She's got a beautiful shot.
04:28 And so she's gotten better during the stretch.
04:33 She's had a much bigger role.
04:35 So proud of her for her growth and she has to continue to grow and get better.
04:40 >> As you, let's see, you guys go to Cincinnati.
04:44 And you're going on the short trip.
04:46 Just what do you wanna see out of these girls as you hit the road for
04:49 another Big 12 game?
04:51 >> Yeah, this is the hand we're dealt.
04:52 This is the group we have.
04:54 We gotta fight.
04:56 We gotta find ways to win.
04:58 I mean, we're under manned.
04:59 We have a small margin for error.
05:01 We don't have a center.
05:02 We don't, I mean, it is what it is.
05:09 And we gotta find ways to scrap all the women.
05:13 It's on the road, it's hard, hard to win on the road in the Big 12.
05:17 And so I haven't dove into the game film and
05:21 we'll study that and get us work on the scouting report.
05:23 But we just gotta keep trying.
05:29 At the end of the day, it's not about wins and losses for this group.
05:31 It's about getting better and hopefully we get Madison, Sedona back here soon.
05:36 And that we can put the puzzle back together.
05:40 But right now we're just trying to survive.
05:42 >> Anything else for coach?
05:44 All right, thank you guys.
05:46 >> Thanks, Coach.
05:47 >> Thank you, guys.
